  11. Amen, Sister Bonnie.  My reaction to this socially-approved stereotyping
  12. of Southerners generally, and Appalachians in particular, has been to
  13. become a militant.  I work with a bunch of ecclesiastically deprived
  14. Northern Americans (my Mamaw raised me to call 'em damnyankees, but these
  15. are the politically correct 1990s and I like to think that I can change
  16. with the times).  When one of these EDNAs makes a disparaging remark
  17. about the South--and especially about Southern accents--I just remind
  18. them that, as the saying goes, "Delta is ready when you are."  How I
  19. survived 21 months in Champaign, Illinois is a mystery known only to God.
