  45.     The V7-STORM PRO graphic card is a product that offers significantly
  46.     enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and 
  47.     accelerator boards.
  48.  
  49.       This particularly applies to  
  50.     - higher resolutions    and
  51.         - higher refresh rates.
  52.  
  53.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  54.     features provided by the V7-STORM PRO, if the other components of 
  55.     your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
  56.     also comply with the specifications of the V7-STORM PRO.
  57.   
  58.     (Example : The resolution 1600x1200 that is supported by the 
  59.     V7-STORM PRO can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  60.     fied to only support resolutions up to 1280x1024.)

  67.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver :

  69.         After the end of the current installation procedure,
  70.         please insert disk "Drivers for Windows" and type:

  78.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  79.     for a specific non-Windows application.
  80.  
  81.     (1) First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-STORM PRO Super-
  82.         disk to the hard disk of your system.
  83.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-STORM PRO
  84.     Superdisk.
  85.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  86.     directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  87.     drivers for.
  88.  
  89.     - change to the V7-STORM PRO Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  90.     - select the language you prefer,
  91.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  92.  
  93.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  94.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  95.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  96.     supported by the V7-STORM PRO.

  100.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║

  103.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  104.     V7-STORM PRO must comply to the specifications of the V7-STORM 
  105.     PRO. Only then can the full functionality of the V7-STORM PRO 
  106.     be used.
  107.  
  108.     The program SPMODE is designed to select a monitor for use
  109.     with DOS applications. Please read the corresponding sections in
  110.     the V7-STORM PRO manual.
  111.     You will find a detailed description of the available graphics modes  
  112.     in the file BIOS.TXT in your SPEA directory. 
  113.  
  114.  
  115.                 *** IMPORTANT ***
  116.  
  117.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  118.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  119.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  120.     If you change your monitor you have to register this using the
  121.         program SPMODE!
  122.         
  123.         Special Notes for EIZO F780i monitor + V7-STORM PRO users:
  124.         
  125.         This monitor is not suitable for use with low-frequency standard VGA
  126.         modes. It can however be used with the V7-STORM PRO to display
  127.         high-resolutions at high refresh rates, e.g. 1600*1200 HighColor at
  128.         80Hz. To be able to use this monitor under standard VGA you must
  129.         enter the following call in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:
  130.         
  131.            C:\SPEA\GDC\V7HFREQ 3
  132.         
  133.         This switches the V7-STORM PRO to higher frequencies. In order to
  134.         use this monitor with the V7-STORM PRO you will therefore need to
  135.         use another monitor first (which can handle standard VGA modes)
  136.         to set up these special VGA modes.

  140.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  143.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more active VGA boards in one PC at 
  144.     the same time. 
  145.     In case you want to use the V7-STORM PRO board in a PC that has a 
  146.     VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  147.     VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-STORM PRO may be used.
  148.  
  149.     (2) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  150.  
  151.                      "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  152.  
  153.     in their configuration programs.
  154.  
  155.     These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-STORM PRO.
  156.  
  157.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  158.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-STORM PRO is
  159.     being installed.

  166.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  167.     available for the V7-STORM PRO. These READMEs contain last-minute 
  168.     information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  169.     mation related to known limitations.
  170.  
  171.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  172.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  173.     running the INSTALL program or they are on the driver disk.
  174.         The READMEs can be identified by the file name extension .DOC 
  175.         or *.eng on the driver disks.
  176.  
  177.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC or show *.eng from the \SPEA\GDC 
  178.         directory to display the README file on your screen.

  276. Problems concerning the connection
  277. ==================================
  278. P: You only have a 2400 baud connection, although your modem supports
  279.    higher speeds.                   
  280.                
  281. A: - If the lines are very bad the modem will set the speed on lower level 
  282.    automatically to get an error-free connection.
  283.    Please call again to get a better line or call later when phone net is 
  284.    not so busy.
  285.  
  286. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) this connection is 
  287.    lost.
  288. A: - Check the basics adjustments of your modem as described in the bulletin 
  289.    'Configuring your modem..').
  290.    - Call the lines directly (-93, ...-97).
  291.    - If you work on a modem that supports 2400 Baud only please only use the 
  292.    phone number -97 to make sure that you have no connection with highspeed
  293.    modems. Some 2400 baud modems have problems to communicate with HS modems.
  294.  
  295. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get AT commands 
  296.    on your screen.
  297. A: - The called modem was just in initializing, please call again.
  298.  
  299. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get chars on your 
  300.    screen.
  301. A: - Maybe these faults are caused by bad lines. Please call again to get a 
  302.    better line or call later when phone net is not so busy.
  303.    - The chars appears like impulses? Please check whether there are any 
  304.    impulse counter is connected with your phone line.
  305.          
  306. P: Special chars (e.g. menu frames, lines,..) are not displayed as such ones 
  307.    but as characters or control chars.
  308. A: -The terminal emulation you have chosen in configuring your modem is wrong.
  309.    Select ANSI.BBS (see bulletin 'basis adjustings'). Note: ANSI.SYS has to
  310.    be loaded via CONFIG.SYS.
  311.    -For customers who use the Windows 3.1 tool TERMINAL.EXE: This software
  312.    offers no terminal emulation that shows all ansi sequeces correctly. To
  313.    work nevertheless with this program and our mailbox please select 
  314.    'DEC VT-100 (ANSI)'. Using this emulation the lines, frames,.. are dis-
  315.    played with characters - not correct but readable. So you can altthough 
  316.    work with the menus.
  317.    If you want to have a really correct display you have to use another 
  318.    terminal software. 
  319.  
  320. Problems concerning the download
  321. ================================
  322. P: There is no succesful download: Sending file process will not be started.
  323.    ("No files to send").
  324. A: - You are in the wrong file area now and the file that you desire so cannot
  325.    be found in this file area. (e.g. you want to downlaod FIRE_WIN.EXE but 
  326.    you are momentary in the area 'FIRE AutoCAD Driver'). -> The current file 
  327.    area is displayed in the download menu, right, on the top!
  328.    Using 'B - List of files in the current area' you can check, whether the 
  329.    desired file is available in this file area with the used name.
  330.    -You have not entered the right file name (error in entering).
  331.    -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you 
  332.    have selected in your modem configuration.    
  333.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  334.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  335.    -There are some modems that needs pressing the >PageDown< or >Bild ab<
  336.    key to start the file transfer. So press this key when you have entered >S< 
  337.    for 'Start transfer...'.
  338.    IMPORTANT: Especially with 2400 modem you must be patient - the modems 
  339.    need some time for initializing!
  340.    - Please check: Does the named destination directory exist? Is there
  341.    enough space? Do you have rights to write in this directory (network!).
  342.        
  343.  
  344. P: There is no succesful download: The sending process is cancelled. 
  345. A: -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you 
  346.    have selected in your modem configuration.    
  347.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  348.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  349.    - Select in YOUR modem software  Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS) as float 
  350.    control protocol (communication between your modem and your PC) 
  351.    Do NOT select software Float Control (Xon/Xoff)!
  352.    - Deactivate "Compressing data" (V42.bis), all files are already packed 
  353.    files. Further compressing is not possible and there may occure problems 
  354.    or time delays caused by the vain attempts to compress the files.
  355.    - check the speed modem - COM port: If you have the UART chip type 
  356.    8250/16450 you can only use speeds upto 9600 bit/s. For HS modems you 
  357.    better use the chip type 16550 - so are bit rates of 38400 and also 57600 
  358.    bit/s possible! Use COMTEST (available in our mailbox) to check your 
  359.    COM port chip on COM 1 / COM 2.
