  45.     The V7-MERCURY PRO graphic card is a product that offers significantly
  46.     enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and 
  47.     accelerator boards.
  48.  
  49.     This particularly applies to  
  50.     - higher resolutions    and
  51.     - higher refresh rates.
  52.  
  53.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  54.     features provided by the V7-MERCURY PRO, if the other components of 
  55.     your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
  56.     also comply with the specifications of the V7-MERCURY PRO.
  57.   
  58.     (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the 
  59.     V7-MERCURY PRO can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  60.     fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  62.     The advantages of the "VESA Local Bus" can only be used with a
  63.     V7-MERCURY PRO (VL) board, if this card is installed in a PC system
  64.     with a VESA Local Bus interface.

  71.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':

  73.         After the end of the current installation procedure,
  74.         please insert disk "Drivers for Windows" and type:

  82.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  83.     for a specific non windows application.
  84.  
  85.     (1) First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MERCURY PRO Super-
  86.     disk to the hard disk of your system.
  87.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MERCURY PRO
  88.     Superdisk.
  89.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  90.     directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  91.     drivers for.
  92.  
  93.     - change to the V7-MERCURY PRO Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  94.     - select the language you prefer,
  95.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  96.  
  97.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  98.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  99.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  100.     supported by the V7-MERCURY PRO.

  104.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║

  107.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  108.     V7-MERCURY PRO must comply to the specifications of the V7-MERCURY PRO.
  109.     Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MERCURY PRO be used.
  110.     
  111.     The User Manual provides detailed information on how to select
  112.     and modify the various monitor parameters (resolution and
  113.     refresh rates) with the program SPTUNE.EXE.
  114.  
  115.                 *** IMPORTANT ***
  116.  
  117.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  118.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  119.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  120.     If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  121.     and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates!

  125.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  128.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more VGA boards in one PC at 
  129.     the same time. 
  130.     In case you want to use the V7-MERCURY PRO board in a PC that has a 
  131.     VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  132.     VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MERCURY PRO may be used.
  133.  
  134.     (2) In some PCs of the Intel 386/25MHz series the V7-MERCURY PRO may only
  135.     be used as standard VGA card. Limitations on the Intel 386/25 
  136.     motherboard do not allow to make use of the accelerator functions
  137.     of the V7-MERCURY PRO in such systems. 
  138.  
  139.     (3) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  140.  
  141.              "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  142.  
  143.     in their configuration programs.
  144.  
  145.     These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MERCURY PRO.
  146.  
  147.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  148.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MERCURY PRO is
  149.     being installed.
  150.  
  151.     (4) To keep the compatibility to a lot of monitors, the V7-MERCURY PRO 
  152.     has the possibility do create low refreshrates at high pixel
  153.     resolutions. Synchronisation problems may in this case occure 
  154.     with high-class multi-sync monitors. To prevent this, please
  155.     choose the highest horizontal frequenzy as possible with the
  156.     program SPTUNE.EXE or while using the windows utility V7SETUP.

  161.     ║                  Notes on Applications                      ║

  164.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  165.     available for the V7-MERCURY PRO. These READMEs contain last-minute 
  166.     information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  167.     mation related to known limitations.
  168.  
  169.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  170.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  171.     running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  172.     the file name extension .DOC .
  173.  
  174.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  175.     display the README file on your screen.

  187.     Besides the S3 AutoCAD drivers that are described in the manual 
  188.     SPEA offers also an own AutoCAD display list driver for
  189.     AutoCAD release 12 - the new BigFocus 12. 
  190.  
  191.     VESA modes
  192.     The V7-MERCURY PRO BIOS does not support the VESA interface. 
  193.     If VESA support is required, the small memory resident program
  194.     V7PROVBE.EXE should be executed. Video modes can be selected via the
  195.     VGA mode numbers. VESA numbers may only be used if the VESA emulator
  196.     has been installed.
  197.      *    A current list of video modes is shown in file BIOS.TXT.
  198.     
  199.     CGA, EGA, Hercules, MDA emulation modes are not supported.
  200.

  202.     EFIX.EXE:
  203.     V7 Utility for fixing problems witch SPTUNE.
  204.     Run EFIX if SPTUNE causes an error in the menu "BildTuning Setup".

  207.     V7HFREQ.COM:
  208.     Higher Refresh Rates also in all VGA standard modes ( Mode Nr. < 30H )

  212.     If you permanently use your monitor with a refresh           
  213.     rate that is too high for your monitor you may damage it!   
  214.     If you are not sure about the monitor frequencies your       
  215.     monitor supports, please inform yourself about the resolution   
  216.     and refresh capabilities in your monitor manual.        
  217.     Please note that you have to adjust the refresh rates again  
  218.     if you change your monitor.

  323. Problems concerning the connection
  324. ==================================
  325. P: You only have a 2400 baud connection, although your modem supports
  326.    higher speeds.                   
  327.                
  328. A: - If the lines are very bad the modem will set the speed on lower level 
  329.    automatically to get an error-free connection.
  330.    Please call again to get a better line or call later when phone net is 
  331.    not so busy.
  332.  
  333. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) this connection is 
  334.    lost.
  335. A: - Check the basics adjustments of your modem as described in the bulletin 
  336.    'Configuring your modem..').
  337.    - Call the lines directly (-93, ...-97).
  338.    - If you work on a modem that supports 2400 Baud only please only use the 
  339.    phone number -97 to make sure that you have no connection with highspeed
  340.    modems. Some 2400 baud modems have problems to communicate with HS modems.
  341.  
  342. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get AT commands 
  343.    on your screen.
  344. A: - The called modem was just in initializing, please call again.
  345.  
  346. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get chars on your 
  347.    screen.
  348. A: - Maybe these faults are caused by bad lines. Please call again to get a 
  349.    better line or call later when phone net is not so busy.
  350.    - The chars appears like impulses? Please check whether there are any 
  351.    impulse counter is connected with your phone line.
  352.          
  353. P: Special chars (e.g. menu frames, lines,..) are not displayed as such ones 
  354.    but as characters or control chars.
  355. A: -The terminal emulation you have chosen in configuring your modem is wrong.
  356.    Select ANSI.BBS (see bulletin 'basis adjustings'). Note: ANSI.SYS has to
  357.    be loaded via CONFIG.SYS.
  358.    -For customers who use the Windows 3.1 tool TERMINAL.EXE: This software
  359.    offers no terminal emulation that shows all ansi sequeces correctly. To
  360.    work nevertheless with this program and our mailbox please select 
  361.    'DEC VT-100 (ANSI)'. Using this emulation the lines, frames,.. are dis-
  362.    played with characters - not correct but readable. So you can altthough 
  363.    work with the menus.
  364.    If you want to have a really correct display you have to use another 
  365.    terminal software. 
  366.  
  367. Problems concerning the download
  368. ================================
  369. P: There is no succesful download: Sending file process will not be started.
  370.    ("No files to send").
  371. A: - You are in the wrong file area now and the file that you desire so cannot
  372.    be found in this file area. (e.g. you want to downlaod FIRE_WIN.EXE but 
  373.    you are momentary in the area 'FIRE AutoCAD Driver'). -> The current file 
  374.    area is displayed in the download menu, right, on the top!
  375.    Using 'B - List of files in the current area' you can check, whether the 
  376.    desired file is available in this file area with the used name.
  377.    -You have not entered the right file name (error in entering).
  378.    -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you 
  379.    have selected in your modem configuration.    
  380.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  381.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  382.    -There are some modems that needs pressing the >PageDown< or >Bild ab<
  383.    key to start the file transfer. So press this key when you have entered >S< 
  384.    for 'Start transfer...'.
  385.    IMPORTANT: Especially with 2400 modem you must be patient - the modems 
  386.    need some time for initializing!
  387.    - Please check: Does the named destination directory exist? Is there
  388.    enough space? Do you have rights to write in this directory (network!).
  389.        
  390.  
  391. P: There is no succesful download: The sending process is cancelled. 
  392. A: -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you 
  393.    have selected in your modem configuration.    
  394.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  395.    Zmodem in the SPEA mailbox!
  396.    - Select in YOUR modem software  Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS) as float 
  397.    control protocol (communication between your modem and your PC) 
  398.    Do NOT select software Float Control (Xon/Xoff)!
  399.    - Deactivate "Compressing data" (V42.bis), all files are already packed 
  400.    files. Further compressing is not possible and there may occure problems 
  401.    or time delays caused by the vain attempts to compress the files.
  402.    - check the speed modem - COM port: If you have the UART chip type 
  403.    8250/16450 you can only use speeds upto 9600 bit/s. For HS modems you 
  404.    better use the chip type 16550 - so are bit rates of 38400 and also 57600 
  405.    bit/s possible! Use COMTEST (available in our mailbox) to check your 
  406.    COM port chip on COM 1 / COM 2.
