  47.     The V7-MERCURY P-64 graphic card is a product that offers significantly
  48.     enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and 
  49.     accelerator boards.
  50.  
  51.       This particularly applies to  
  52.     - higher resolutions    and
  53.         - higher refresh rates.
  54.  
  55.     Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the 
  56.     features provided by the V7-MERCURY P-64, if the other components of 
  57.     your system, especially the graphic monitor that is being used,
  58.     also comply with the specifications of the V7-MERCURY P-64.
  59.   
  60.     (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the 
  61.     V7-MERCURY P-64 can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  62.     fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  69.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':
  70.  
  71.         After the end of the current installation procedure,
  72.         please insert disk "Drivers for Windows" and type:
  73.         README  [─┘]

  80.     Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  81.     for a specific non windows application.
  82.  
  83.     (1) First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MERCURY P-64 Super-
  84.         disk to the hard disk of your system.
  85.     This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MERCURY P-64
  86.     Superdisk.
  87.     Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and 
  88.     directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  89.     drivers for.
  90.  
  91.     - change to the V7-MERCURY P-64 Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  92.     - select the language you prefer,
  93.     - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.   
  94.  
  95.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the  
  96.     applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The  
  97.     User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  98.     supported by the V7-MERCURY P-64.
  99.  
  100.     VESA modes:
  101.     The V7-MERCURY P-64 BIOS does not support the VESA interface. 
  102.     If VESA support is required, the small memory resident program
  103.     V7MEPVBE.EXE should be executed.

  106.     ║                    Monitor Selection                        ║

  109.     As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  110.     V7-MERCURY P-64 must comply to the specifications of the V7-MERCURY 
  111.     P-64. Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MERCURY P-64 
  112.     be used.
  113.  
  114.     In order to use your monitor in connection with the V7-MERCURY P-64 
  115.     in the most effective way you have the possibility to choose 
  116.     between two different BIOS versions with various monitor parameters
  117.     on your graphics board. You can select each of the BIOS version via 
  118.     the corresponding jumper on the V7-MERCURY P-64 (see manual).
  119.     You will find a detailed description of the available graphics modes  
  120.     in the file BIOS.TXT in your SPEA directory. 
  121.     Important:
  122.     Please be aware that every time you change the BIOS jumper,
  123.     you have to delete the settings done with the program SPTUNE.EXE.
  124.     Therefore use the program EFIX.EXE in the SPEA directory. 
  125.     The program SPEAtune is designed to select and modify the various
  126.     monitor parameters. Please read the corresponding sections in
  127.     the V7-MERCURY P-64 manual.

  132.     Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  133.     Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven 
  134.     with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  135.     If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  136.     and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates using
  137.     SPEAtune !

  140.     ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  143.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more active VGA boards in one PC at 
  144.     the same time. 
  145.     In case you want to use the V7-MERCURY P-64 board in a PC that has a 
  146.     VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  147.     VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MERCURY P-64 may be used.
  148.  
  149.     (2) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer 
  150.  
  151.                      "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  152.  
  153.     in their configuration programs.
  154.  
  155.     These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MERCURY P-64.
  156.  
  157.     Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to 
  158.     guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MERCURY P-64 is
  159.     being installed.

  166.     Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  167.     available for the V7-MERCURY P-64. These READMEs contain last-minute 
  168.     information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  169.     mation related to known limitations.
  170.  
  171.     These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  172.     the related driver has been selected for installation while
  173.     running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  174.     the file name extension .DOC .
  175.  
  176.     Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  177.     display the README file on your screen.

  192.     Run EFIX if SPTUNE causes an error in the menu "BildTuning Setup" 
  193.     or if you chanced the BIOS jumper.

  204.     rate that is too high for your monitor you may damage it!   
  205.     If you are not sure about the monitor frequencies your       
  206.     monitor supports, please inform yourself about the resolution   
  207.     and refresh capabilities in your monitor manual.        
  208.     Please note that you have to adjust the refresh rates again  
  209.     if you change your monitor.
