- INSERT BINARY
-
- Envoy 100 supports the transfer of binary (8 bit) files using the XMODEM
- file transfer protocol. Both CRC and CHKSUM versions of XMODEM are
- supported.
-
- If INSERT BINARY is entered while editing a workspace the user will be
- prompted for:
-
- File Name: (up to 20 characters) and
- File Format: (up to 20 characters).
-
- These fields are labels which can be used to identify the binary attachment
- that follows. They can be left blank by entering [cr].
-
- After entering the 'File Format:' they will be prompted to 'Initiate
- Transfer' (send BREAK to cancel). At this point the user must invoke the
- XMODEM file transfer from their computer to send a binary file to Envoy
- 100. The exact manner in which Xmodem is invoked depends on the
- communication software being used and the documentation for that package
- should be consulted for this information.
-
- After the file is transferred the user will receive a summary status line
- from Envoy and then be prompted with Command? or Action? and can then send,
- edit or save the message in the same manner as they are currently allowed.
- The restrictions on editing of binary attachments are:
-
- 1) A binary file is stored as a single line in the workspace.
-
- 2) The binary file itself cannot be modified.
-
- 3) The file Name: and File Format: text can be edited like any other text.
- However any attempts to edit the labels themselves will result in the
- editing command being cancelled.
-
- 4) The line(s) containing the binary attachment(s) can be copied, deleted and
- moved in the same manner as a text line(s).
-
- A message can contain as many binary attachments as desired. Each binary
- message will have a File Name: and File Format: label associated with it.
-
- If no line number is specified the binary attachment will be added to the
- first available line in the open workspace.
-
- If the XMODEM transfer fails or is cancelled for any reason, the user will
- be informed with a system message and be returned to the Command? prompt.
- The message with the (incomplete) binary attachment will not be posted.
-
- The XMODEM transfer can be cancelled by issuing a BREAK from the
- communication software. Please consult the documentation for your package
- for the details on cancelling an XMODEM file transfer.
