To begin, we should like to make clear that as an exclusively Internet-based operation, we do not as a rule supply our software on CD or floppy disk.
If your overriding desire to 'receive the product on CD-ROM or floppy' stems from an understandable wish to avoid the hassle (understatement!) of losing your copy of Stella every time your system crashes (??) or whenever you are forced to re-install Windows, by far the most painless method is to back up your Stella .zip archive immediately you have downloaded it.
You can backup to any medium that is 'hard' and separated from your PC's hard disk: CD-R, CD-RW, Iomega Zip drive, tape drive, or even floppy disk. With CD-R etc all you have to do is copy the .zip archive across just as you would any other file.
But if you haven't the facilities for this, your only other option is a 'spanned' archive to floppy using Winzip. For this you would need to proceed as follows:
Stage 1
-------
0) Make sure you have Winzip installed on your computer (www.winzip.com)
1) Create a new empty folder on your hard disk (your Desktop is as good a place as any)
2) Double click on your downloaded .zip archive to open it in Winzip
3) Click the Extract button on Winzip's toolbar and extract 'All files' to the folder you just created on your hard disk
4) Close Winzip.
Stage 2
-------
5) Prepare 3 blank formatted 1.4 Mb floppies; label them #1, #2, #3 and place #1 in your A: drive
6) Open your A: drive by double-clicking on it in the left-hand pane of Windows Explorer
5) Right-click in Explorer's right pane and choose "New|Winzip file" from the menu that appears. Double-click on this new .zip file to open it. Winzip should start and present you with a 'clean' window;
6) Click the Add button on Winzip's toolbar. In the dialog that appears, make sure "multiple disk spanning" has [Span: no format] selected.
7) Using the file window in the same dialog, navigate to the folder in which you stored Stella's extracted setup files; Select all the files you find there, or just make sure that *.* is the path shown in the filename box. Click Add. Change disks when prompted by Winzip to do so.
8) Close Winzip and delete the temporary folder in which you stored the extracted setup files.
That's it. Seems a bit complicated at first glance, but actually it's easier than it looks. Obviously, CD-R/ZipDisk is the best option, because all you need to do then is copy the .zip archive straight over to your backup media.
We should add that it's also worth reading Winzip's Help section dealing with multiple disk spanning.
Hope that clarifies the disk backup procedure for you. The only reason we take the spanned option is because Stella's files no longer fit on a single 1.44 Mb floppy. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have further questions.
And please, as soon as you receive your software do *back it up*!
You will then be in a position to receive your registered copy's setup files on CD-R (NOT CD-ROM, please note!) or 3.5" floppy disk, whichever option you indicate as a preference on the form.
Points to bear in mind:
-----------------------
Before selecting the CD-R option, please make absolutely certain that your PC's CD-ROM drive is capable of handling the relatively new CD-R optical media.
If ordering Stella 2000 Extended on floppy disk, please note that we cannot supply any of the 'extras' (Hipparcos catalog, VP, WDA, Astrogloss A-Z etc) on this medium, only the program setup files themselves. All extras will need to be downloaded from the Internet (unless you opt for CD-R, in which case every component of Stella Extended / Coeli Gold will be included on the CD).
For further info on this option, don't hesitate to e-mail us at contact@coeli.com
Our product and after-sales support remit is simple.
We are pledged to provide advice to the best of our ability and experience, via electronic mail alone, in the following single circumstance:
* Difficulties encountered by a registered user in negotiating or understanding specific aspect(s) of program operation;
Support is conditional upon said aspects not being adequately explained within manuals or other documentation.
Additionally, it should be made clear that pre-sales advice will be freely available, provided the potential customers' queries do not fall under any of the following exception cases.
Exceptions and Exclusions
-------------------------
Items that fall outside this brief, and for which we can guarantee no advice or even - on occasion - acknowledgement include:
(i) Adverse criticism of Coeli products or marketing strategies (though constructive feedback is welcomed);
(ii) Lack of due courtesy in articulating an application for help;
(iii) Program malfunction judged to be the result of system conflicts, clashes with third-party utilities etc;
(iv) Program malfunction resulting from incompatible hardware or peripherals (printers, scanners, monitors etc);
In the case of (ii) above, a user may even run the risk of joining our 'exclusions list' whereby - in extreme cases only - messages from the individual in question are automatically deleted at the mailserver. Cases like this have occurred and continue to occur, but thankfully rarely. Our valued customers for the most part show great responsibility, politeness, intelligence, and restraint, and we here take the opportunity to offer our gratitude to them for making Coeli Software the success it has become.
