  33. 1. WHAT IS BOOKCAT?
  34. ----------------------------------------

  36. BookCAT is a powerful 32-bit Windows application designed to 
  37. catalog and manage a personal, club, school, church, or 
  38. business library. BookCAT will help you know what you have, 
  39. where it is (including books lent out) and the total value of 
  40. your collection. BookCAT is easy-to-use for the amateur, with 
  41. sophisticated features for the professional.

  43. BookCAT has a comprehensive set of fields, enabling you to 
  44. catalog information like author, title, publisher, ISBN number, 
  45. publish date, number of pages, editor, original title, 
  46. translator, binding, edition, type of book (Fiction, 
  47. Non-fiction, etc.), category and sub-category (Drama, Science 
  48. Fiction, Thriller, etc.), purchase date, price, current value, 
  49. condition, status (Own, Want, For sale, etc.), personal rating, 
  50. owner, location, keywords, awards and nominations, comments, 
  51. synopsis, reviews, and more.

  53. You can work with an unlimited number of databases. This means 
  54. you can split your collection into different catalogs and 
  55. organize it to meet your needs. BookCAT allows you to change 
  56. the name of all data fields. You can hide the fields you don't 
  57. want to use. These fields will disappear from all windows, 
  58. menus, lists etc. This way you can customize the database to 
  59. suit your needs.

  61. You can effectively search the database for information that you 
  62. require. Search in all fields with any combination of fields and 
  63. operators. In addition, BookCAT lets you cross reference up to 
  64. five fields. This is an extremely flexible way to search and 
  65. query data.

  67. The report designer lets you create almost any type of report. 
  68. Use one of the more than 80 pre-defined reports, or create your 
  69. own reports from scratch. You have full control over data fields, 
  70. groups, sort order, columns, fonts, colors, paper size, margins 
  71. and print orientation. BookCAT lets you preview reports on screen 
  72. before printing. Using BookCAT you can easily create professionally 
  73. looking reports with exactly the layout you want.

  75. With the HTML Generator you can quickly generate documents to be 
  76. published on the World Wide Web. The loan module lets you keep 
  77. track of books on loan. Check the program periodically to see 
  78. what is still out on loan. You will always know who has what 
  79. and since when.

  81. The statistics function allows you to analyze your collection 
  82. in a variety of ways. BookCAT lets you track both initial 
  83. investment and the value of your collection. Use the backup 
  84. function to make backup copies of your valuable data.

  86. BookCAT uses popup menus for quick feature access and navigation. 
  87. BookCAT comes with a sample database to get you started and a 
  88. comprehensive context sensitive on-line help system.

  91. 2. FEE FOR DISTRIBUTION OF SHAREWARE VERSION

  94. Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors and BBS(s) may have 
  95. charged a nominal fee for the distribution of the shareware 
  96. version of BookCAT. This fee does not constitute payment for 
  97. the licensed version of BookCAT, and does not entitle the 
  98. end-user to use the shareware version for longer than the 
  99. 30-day evaluation period.

  102. 3. TO INSTALL BOOKCAT

  108. 1. Insert diskette number 1 into your diskette drive.
  109.  
  110. 2. From the Start menu, choose Run.
  111.  
  112.    You see the Run dialog box.
  113.  
  114. 3. In the Open text box, type the path to the installation 
  115.    program, for example A:\SETUP, and choose OK.
  116.  
  117. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. When requested, 
  118.    specify the folder where you want to install BookCAT. 
  119.    Unless you specify a different folder, the application 
  120.    will be installed to C:\Program Files\BookCAT32.
  121.  
  122. 5. To start BookCAT, choose Programs / BookCAT 98 from the
  123.    Start menu.

  125. From hard disk
  126. --------------

  128. 1. Ensure that the BookCAT installation files 
  129.    
  130.       SETUP.EXE
  131.       SETUP.2
  132.       SETUP.3
  133.  
  134.    are in the same folder, for example C:\TMP.
  135.  
  136. 2. From the Start menu, choose Run.
  137.  
  138.    You see the Run dialog box.
  139.  
  140. 3. Type the path to the installation program in the Open 
  141.    text box, for example C:\TMP\SETUP, and choose OK.
  142.  
  143. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. When requested, 
  144.    specify the folder where you want to install BookCAT. 
  145.    Unless you specify a different folder, the application 
  146.    will be installed to C:\Program Files\BookCAT32.
  147.  
  148. 5. When the installation is completed, you can delete the 
  149.    files (SETUP.EXE, SETUP.2 and SETUP.3) in the temporary 
  150.    folder.
  151.  
  152. 6. To start BookCAT, choose Programs / BookCAT 98 from the
  153.    Start menu.

  156. 4. TO REMOVE BOOKCAT

  159. 1. From the Start button, choose Settings / Control Panel.
  160.  
  161. 2. In Control Panel, double click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  162.  
  163. 3. Locate BookCAT 98 in the program list.

  165.    Click on it to select it.

  167. 4. Click the Add/Remove button.

  175. * Report Designer: The Detail band has a new "Keep Together" 
  176.   property. When this property is set, BookCAT keeps the band 
  177.   (including the Sub Detail band, if applicable) together, 
  178.   either on the current page (if there is room) or on the 
  179.   next (if not).

  181.   "Add default items to lookup tables".
  182. * Added buttons to generate the item/Sort by value when
