  4. This is the POPIt Mail Notifier PLUS! program for Windows
  5.  95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 ("Software").
  6.  
  7. This Software is owned by Productive Programming Inc.
  8.  ("PPI"), a private corporation.
  9.  
  10. The Software source code, object code and associated
  11.  materials are all Copyrighted (c) 1996, 1997, 1998,
  12.  and 1999 by PPI.
  13.  
  14. PPI grants to the user a nonexclusive license to use this
  15.  Software solely for its internal private purposes. The
  16.  user shall not distribute, sublicense, resell, or
  17.  otherwise transfer for any consideration, the Software
  18.  or any modification or derivation thereof, either alone
  19.  or in conjunction with any other product or program
  20.  without express prior written permission from PPI.
  21.  However, the shareware setup kit (i.e. compressed ZIP
  22.  file) may be freely distributed with the express
  23.  understanding that the popit.ini file and/or the user's
  24.  or anyone else's registration code shall NOT be
  25.  duplicated or given to any third party, under any
  26.  circumstance. Further, the user shall not modify the
  27.  Software without express prior written permission
  28.  from PPI.

  30. EACH POPIT REGISTRATION CODE EXPLICITLY DETAILS THE NUMBER
  31. OF PC INSTALLATIONS ("seats") THAT THE UNIQUE CODES MAY BE
  32. USED ON.    IT IS A BREACH OF THIS AGGREEMENT TO SHARE ANY
  33. REGISTRATION CODE, OR USE THE CODES ON MORE COMPUTERS THAN
  34. WHERE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED FROM PRODUCTIVE PROGRAMMING.

  57. What You Should Know
  58. **********************************************************
  59. POPIt obviously connects to the Internet as part of it's
  60.  function. You will configure it with some private
  61.  information in the form of your POP mailbox(s) Name and
  62.  Password. With that I have an important responsibility in
  63.  assuring that this information DOES NOT LEAVE YOUR PC. To
  64.  that end, I will now detail the communications that take
  65.  place with this program and the Internet, and hopefully
  66.  ease your mind as to the privacy of your EMAIL and
  67.  mailbox information. 
  68.  
  69.   1.POP3: Port 110 is used to login to the specified
  70.           servers, get the number of messages waiting, and
  71.           retrieve the headers. NO MAIL IS EVER DELETED
  72.           WITHOUT YOUR CONFIRMATION.
  73.  
  74.   2.SMTP: Port 25 is used by the InstaReply and InstaNote
  75.           features to send Internet mail messages.  It is
  76.           also used to automatically send a registration 
  77.           notification to the POPIt registrar listserver
  78.           upon the registration of POPIt.  A copy of this
  79.           messages is also sent to you. Only your Hard 
  80.           Drive "C:" serial number and installation date
  81.           are transmitted to the registrar for use in
  82.           preventing a registered copy from working on
  83.           more than one machine.  Your POP3 mailbox
  84.           Password(s) ARE NOT transmitted in any form
  85.           (encrypted or otherwise).

  87. NO OTHER COMPUTER, SYSTEM, OR PASSWORD INFORMATION IS EVER
  88. SENT. NO MAIL IS EVER DUPLICATED, MODIFIED OR FORWARDED
  89. WITHOUT YOUR CONTROL.

  91. THE PORTS (110 and 25) CALLED OUT ABOVE ARE THE DEFAULT
  92. VALUES.  THE USER MAY CHOOSE OTHER PORTS, BUT THE POP3 &
  93. SMTP COMMUNICATIONS REMAIN THE SAME.

  96. ARE AWARE OF THESE COMMUNICATIONS.
