  32. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT/32?
  33. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  34.   Welcome!  SnagIt/32 is the Windows NT and Windows 95/98 version of 
  35.   the popular screen capture utility, SnagIt.  SnagIt has been 
  36.   providing Microsoft Windows users with an easy way to capture and 
  37.   print Windows screens since it was first released in 1990. In 
  38.   "Windows 3.1 Secrets," author Brian Livingston calls SnagIt "the 
  39.   print utility Microsoft Windows forgot."
  40.  
  41.   SnagIt/32 is a powerful Windows image, text, and video capture
  42.   program that allows you many options. SnagIt/32 is for any computer
  43.   user who needs to capture more than a few screens for any purpose,
  44.   such as:
  45.  
  46.   o  Capturing screens and menus in a Windows program to create
  47.      documentation.
  48.  
  49.   o  Professional image processing and manipulation, e.g. shrink
  50.      screen captures while maintaining image readability.
  51.  
  52.   o  Saving a long window, even if it scrolls off-screen, with a
  53.      single capture instead of clipping them together.
  54.  
  55.   o  Creating AVI movies from live program action on your computer 
  56.      screen.  Also record audio at the same time from your microphone.

  74. 2.  SNAGIT/32 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  75. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  76.   In order to run SnagIt/32, your system must meet these specifications:
  77.  
  78.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  79.      requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.
  80.  
  81.   o  Windows NT 4.0 (or higher) or Windows 95/98 installed and
  82.      configured on your system.
  83.  
  84.   o  A mouse or other pointing device
  85.  
  86.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  87.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink jet
  88.      printers that Windows supports.  Plotters are not recommended for
  89.      use with SnagIt/32 due to their inability to print bitmaps.)

  102. 3.1 Using SnagIt/32's On-line Help
  103.  
  104.   SnagIt/32's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows Help
  105.   subsystems.  The SnagIt/32 Help file contains all of the information
  106.   you'll need to use SnagIt/32.
  107.  
  108.   To access SnagIt/32 Help, select Help from the SnagIt/32 menu bar, 
  109.   then Help Index from the drop-down menu.
  110.  
  111.   To get a quick overview of SnagIt/32 essentials, select Quick Help 
  112.   from the Help menu.
  113.  
  114.   To acquire information about your screen mode and printer type,
  115.   select System Info from the Help menu.
  116.

  280.           navigate, view, and manipulate a collection of captures.

  282.           Fixed Region Capture - capture a configurable rectangle.  
  283.           The user can use a fixed starting point or use the mouse 
  284.           to choose the starting point.

  286.           Menu Capture - will capture the top most menu displayed in
  287.           the system.  Useful for capturing drop down or popup menus
  288.           with the mouse cursor shown.  An "include menu bar" option
  289.           clip's the menu bar area above drop down menus.

  291.           Image cropping & copying to clipboard - added to the SnagIt 
  292.           Preview window as a new Edit menu.  It includes an 
  293.           unlimited Undo, Copy, Crop, Select All and Restore.  New

  296.           mouse button click brings up a context menu (Edit menu).

  298.           Integrated Video Viewer - An integrated frame-by-frame 
  299.           video (AVI) viewer has been added.  The video viewer allows 
  300.           you to navigate the frames of a video clip and copy/print/
  301.           save any frame as a single image.  The video "play" option
  302.           launches an external video player using the Windows shell
  303.           (AVI) file association.

  305.           User Interface reorganization - SnagIt/32 input & output

  387. 4.3 Undocumented features
  388.  
  389.     Filters->Image Resolution: 
  390.     This setting controls the resolution of an image in dots per inch
  391.     (dpi).  This parameter will control how other applications (e.g. 
  392.     Microsoft Word) displays and prints images created by SnagIt. 
  393.     SnagIt applies this resolution parameter to all image captures. 
  394.     Unless you have need for a specific resolution, the Auto Configure 
  395.     checkbox should be selected.  This option uses the default screen 
  396.     resolution (typically 96 dpi).  In general, the higher the 
  397.     resolution the smaller the images appear in publishing
  398.     applications.
  399.    
  400.     Image->Resolution:   
  401.     The image resolution can also be set for the single image being
  402.     viewed in the Preview or Catalog viewer windows.  Changing the
  403.     resolution here only affects the currently viewed image.
  404.    
  405.     Note: This setting does not affect how SnagIt displays or prints 
  406.     the image.  This setting affects Image Capture mode only. 
  407.  
  408.     The resolution property is not perserved by GIF or PNG files.
  409.

  411. 5.  KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS
  412. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  413.     o  The full Text Capture feature is only available on Windows 95
  414.        /98 systems.  SnagIt/32 will only capture text from the 
  415.        clipboard on Windows NT systems.
  416.  
  417.     o  SnagIt/32 hangs on e-mail output on Windows 95 if only 16-bit
  418.        MS Mail has been configured (i.e. MAPI is in use, but neither
  419.        MS Exchange or any other 32-bit MAPI mail client has been
  420.        configured).

  423. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  424. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  425. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  426.  
  427.   The SnagIt/32 installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  428.   application.  You must have Windows NT 4.0 (or higher) or 
  429.   Windows 95/98 installed prior to installing SnagIt/32. To install 
  430.   SnagIt/32, perform the following steps:
  431.  
  432.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  433.  
  434.   2. Insert the SnagIt/32 CDROM into the CDROM drive.  If the setup
  435.      program does not automatically start, or if you have SnagIt/32 
  436.      on diskettes, perform the remaining steps.
  437.  
  438.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  439.  
  440.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  441.           a:\setup
  442.      (you will need to change the drive letter in the command line 
  443.      above to match your current CDROM drive or your floppy drive if
  444.      you are installing from diskettes)
  445.  
  446.   5. Click on the OK button.
  447.  
  448.   6. Follow the instructions given by the setup wizard for correct
  449.      installation of the product.

  452. 6.2  Installed Files

  454.   The SnagIt/32 setup program copies the following files to your
  455.   computer during installation:
  456.  
  457.   dderef.doc      SnagIt/32 DDE command reference.
  458.   install.log     Log file used by the uninstall program.

  460.   lfcmp90n.dll    JPG file format support file.

  484. 6.3  Uninstall Instructions
  485.  
  486.   If after installing SnagIt/32, you find it necessary to remove
  487.   the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  488.  
  489.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0
  490.  
  491.   1. Run the Windows Control Panel
  492.  
  493.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  494.  
  495.   3. Select SnagIt/32 from the list of applications that can 
  496.      uninstalled by Windows.
  497.  
  498.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt/32.
  499.  
  500.  
  501. 6.4  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  502.  
  503.   If you encounter problems during the uninstall, here are the steps 
  504.   you can take to manually uninstall SnagIt/32 from your computer.
  505.  
  506.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  507.  
  508.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  509.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  510.      button.
  511.  
  512.   3. Find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was installed. Click
  513.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  514.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  515.  
  516.   4. If you selected "Automatically run SnagIt/32 when Windows starts"
  517.      during installation, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  518.  
  519.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on the
  520.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  521.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  522.  
  523.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory in which you
  524.      installed SnagIt/32. Delete all the files listed in section 6.2.

  527. 7. REGISTERING SNAGIT TWIN PACK
  528. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  529.   This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  530.   package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt/32 is not in
  531.   the public domain.  This program must be registered if it is used
  532.   beyond the 45 day evaluation period.
  533.  
  534.   Single-User SnagIt          $39.95
  535.  
  536.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  537.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt and to switch between the two without
  538.   further payment.
  539.  
  540.   When you register SnagIt Twin Pack, you have the option of
  541.   requesting a registered version of the software on CDROM or of
  542.   requesting a software key to register the version you have. The
  543.   software key immediately removes all registration reminder screens.
  544.  
  545.   Multi-User SnagIt          $200.00
  546.  
  547.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  548.   of SnagIt, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single CDROM
  549.   is shipped along with the multi-user license.
  550.  
  551.   Registration Instructions
  552.  
  553.   1.  Select the SnagIt/32 program's Help menu.
  554.  
  555.   2.  Select Register SnagIt/32 from the menu.
  556.  
  557.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  558.       information in the fields provided.
  559.  
  560.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  561.             Your software key will be personalized for that name ONLY.
  562.  
  563.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  564.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt/32 default directory. This is
  565.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet
  566.       and your Product ID number.
  567.  
  568.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  569.       allowing you to edit and/or print the registration form.  While
  570.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  571.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  572.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  573.       applicable to CDROM orders.
  574.  
  575.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  576.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  577.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your CDROM or
  578.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  579.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  580.  
  581.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  582.   steps to complete the registration process.
  583.  
  584.   7.  Select the Help->Register SnagIt/32 menu item.
  585.  
  586.   8.  Click on the Enter Software Key button.
  587.  
  588.   9.  Enter your registration key, exactly as it is shown, in the
  589.       field provided.
  590.  
  591.   10. Press OK.
  592.  
  593.   Your software is now registered!  All the registration reminder
  594.   screens will be removed.  If you have any additional questions
