Nico's Commander for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT

WHAT IS NICO'S COMMANDER
Nico's Commander is a Norton Commander like file manager with exciting
features:
- ten or twenty application buttons you can configure to start your
favorite application with one mouse click, and feed the application
a file you selected
- user configurable function keys
- show the current date and time in the title bar of the active window
- built-in zip and unzip function with long file name support and ability
to create self extracting ZIP archives and archives that span several
floppies
- try out facility for ZIP files
- reach icons on your desktop with one mouse click, even if your
desktop is cluttered with windows
- file search (with jokers) and search for strings inside files
- directory compare
- file compare
- Explorer-like context menus
- supports FAT32 and NTFS
- built-in editor without Notepads limitations
- use FTP sites as local disks
- print ASCII files one page on a sheet (portrait) or two pages on a
sheet (landscape)
- optional command prompt with command history
- minimize by right clicking on empty space in Nico's Commander's main
window
- ExitWin button to exit and restart Windows or to shut down or reboot
your machine
- Esc key can instantly activate your Screen Saver.
- Help everywhere.
INSTALLATION/DEINSTALLATION
Run SETUP.EXE to install. Uninstall via Start - Settings -
Configuration - Software, or double click the icon Uninstall Nico's
Commander.
VERSION HISTORY
Version 4.10:
- user configurable function keys
- 'Move' and 'Rename' functions now integrated
- possibility to use wildcards in copy, move and rename actions
- 'SendTo' submenu implemented in Explorer-like context menu
- results of directory comparison are shown in file windows, not
in separate window
- new menu choice: File - Invert selection
- new menu choice: Directory - Print current directory
- new menu choice: Directory - Print directory tree
- selected sort order will be saved over sessions

because of differences between collating and lexicographical order
- fixed bug which caused crash when connected to unknown FTP host type
- fixed bug that caused File - Open archive not to function
- fixed bug that caused an html file to be opened in a new browser, in
stead of in a new window of the running browser
- selected files will no longer be deselected unexpectedly
- increased performance handling very large directories.
Version 4.03a:
- fixed bug that caused crash on some machines with special drives (i.e. on
Toshiba Libretto with PCMCIA-coupled floppy drive)

- added support for multi-volume zip archives
- progress bar for zip and unzip actions
- added Shift-F3 to edit a new file
- added Shift-F8 and Shift-Del to delete files without sending them
to the recycle bin
- calculation of diskspace occupied by directory can now be aborted
- changed the way to select files and directories with the keyboard:
spacebar selects, Ins key selects and goes down one line,
cursor up/down no longer looses selection

handled incorrectly.

* file transfer can now be aborted

* you can specify type of transfer (ASCII, binary, L8)
* support for VAX/VMS FTP hosts
* FTP actions can be logged

- fixed bug that caused window of internal editor to remain empty sometimes

- key combination Ctrl+R can now be used to force refresh of file windows
- better indication of sort order in file windows
- fixed bug which caused disk drive to be blocked for external actions (eg. format)
- fixed bug which stopped context sensitive help in some dialogs
- when calculating number of subdirectories in a directory the directory itself is no longer
added
- fixed bug which caused strange results using cd.. button
- files with a name starting with a dot are now shown
- right click on parent directory resulted in crash or incorrect result
- fixed bug that caused scroll problems after compare of files of unequal length
- default name of output zip file in Zip dialog box is now selected
- Windows 95 reports 2 Gb as disk size, even if the disk is larger. Service Release 2 of
Windows 95 (OSR2) make it possible to correct this. Nico's Commander now makes use of this.
- fixed bug that stopped tab key to work correctly in internal editor
- fixed bug that caused search and replace actions in internal editor to fail.
Version 3.04:
- revised printing function to support newest HP drivers and all Windows printers
- uninstall now only removes own installed files
- width of all columns in file windows will now be saved over sessions

- title of help file was in Dutch
- tooltip for desktop menu icon in system tray showed "Bureablad menu".
Changed that to "Desktop menu".
