  19. Please note:  This software will ONLY run with Windows 95, and you
  20. must be running in indexed colour mode.
  21.  
  22. To select indexed colour mode, first right-click on your Windows95
  23. desktop, and choose Properties. Then click on the SETTINGS tab, pull
  24. down the COLOR PALETTE option box, and select '256 COLOR.'
  25.  
  26. At this point, your computer will need to Restart Windows.
  27.  
  28. Once you have restarted Windows, re-run the PCGAMER menu, and
  29. start Ice and Fire.

  33. To start Ice & Fire from the CD drive, just run the IF_W.EXE file
  34. from the IF folder on the CD.
  35.  
  36. If you only have 8 MB of RAM, be sure to have Windows Smartdrive
  37. installed and don't forget to make sure the Windows swap file
  38. is big enough- at least 12 MB.

  40. Make sure that smartdrive.exe has also been started in your
  41. autoexec.bat file.

  43. To run Ice & Fire with special options, click Start button in the
  44. left bottom corner of your desktop, and select Run from the menu.
  45. Type the command X:\IF\IF_W.exe with any of the following special
  46. arguments (X is for your CD ROM drive letter)

  48. IF_W.EXE /NO_SOUND - without sounds
  49. IF_W.EXE /NO_INTRO - without intro
  50. IF_W.EXE /NO_MUSIC - without music
  51.  
  52. Push Z to play the intro in full screen mode.

  76. Mouse Control- To move forward, place the mouse above the center
  77. crosshairs and press the left button.  This will move you forward.
  78. Likewise, placing the mouse below the cross hairs moves you in
  79. reverse.  The farther away from the center crosshairs, the faster
  80. you move.  To move left or right, move the mouse to the left or
  81. right side of the screen (while pressing the left mouse button).

  83. Joystick or Virtual IO support- Go to the Options menu of
  84. Ice & Fire, and set the control to joystick or Virtual IO.

  97. Mouse control- Use the right button to shoot. Use the left
  98. button to select your direction. To position your direction
  99. place the mouse arrow in the center of the game screen.
  100. Position it in the middle to go straight; move it to the left
  101. to select the left path; move it right to select the right
  102. path. The arrows in the interface will also show you which
  103. path you have selected.

  105. Trouble shooting

  107. To insure that the speed of your keyboard matches the desired
  108. speed of game play, go to the Control Panel and click
  109. on the Keyboard icon. Set up two parameters in the Keyboard
  110. window- Delay Before First Repeat to Short and Repeat Rate to Fast.

  112. Switch your Windows to 256 color mode to run the game
  113. faster.
