└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Copy the RunDOOM files into your DOOM2 directory.
The files you should copy are:
RDM2.EXE and
RDM2.DOC
Change to the directory that contains DOOM 2 and the RunDOOM
files.
Startup RunDOOM by typing RDM2 and pressing ENTER at the
DOS command prompt.
CD\DOOM2 <ENTER>
RDM2 <ENTER>
RunDOOM has one optional command line parameter; -sername.
Use this parameter to tell RunDOOM the name of your modem/network
setup for DOOM 2.
RDM2 -SERSETUP.EXE <ENTER>
RDM2 -IPXSETUP.EXE <ENTER>
If you are using a program other than SERSETUP.EXE for two
player games, you will need to use this parameter to specify
the name of the program that you will be using. This
parameter defaults to SERSETUP.EXE if not specified. (*see
Files, Network Support)
On startup, RunDOOM will check for the existence of:
DOOM2.EXE
DOOM2.WAD
SERSETUP.EXE (or the program specified with the [-sername]
switch)
(if one or more of these checks fail, RunDOOM will exit to DOS)
RunDOOM will also check for these file:
*.WAD (misc. PWAD files)
DOOMSAV?.DSG (saved games)
Once the RunDOOM screen appears, you can begin setting up
your DOOM 2 session. Use the key that corresponds to the
highlighted letter to select an option. (if you have a mouse
you may also use the mouse to select options)
Special Notes:
Deathmatch 2.0 is simular to normal Deathmatch, only items
respawn after a few seconds. Plus, a suicide will count
one FRAG against you.
The FAST selection is only available with monsters or
respawning monsters. This makes the monsters up to 3
times faster, shooting and walking.
Random Mode 1 can be used for single or multi-player
games. This option warps you to a random level.
Random Mode 2 is simular to Random Mode 1 except, when
in two player mode, the timer is also given a random
value.
The TIMER option is only available in any of the two
player deathmatch modes. This option will exit the
current level after xx minutes. Valid options are:
0 = disable, 1-99.
The TURBO option makes your character move faster.
Valid options are:
0 = disable, 1-250. 100 is normal speed.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ 3. Network Support │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
There is NO built-in network support for DOOM 2; however,
you can 'fool' the program into running a network game
using this method:
1. Edit the RDM2.PRM file and insert parameters that you
wished passed to IPXSETUP.
2. Pass -IPXSETUP.EXE to RDM2 on the command line:
RDM2 -ipxsetup.exe
This will tell RunDOOM to use IPXSETUP.EXE (instead of
SERSETUP.EXE) when runing a two player game.
3. Set the Modem command in RunDOOM to "ALREADY CONNECTED".
4. Run a two player game as you normally would.
