  4. This README file contains general information about the graphics
  5. formats that import to WordPerfect for Windows (WPWin) version
  6. 6.0/6.1, the graphics formats that export from WPWin 6.0/6.1,
  7. graphics conversion limitations for WPG graphics formats, and the
  8. conversion of features and codes in WPWin 5.1/5.2 and 6.0/6.1.
  9.

  18. GRAPHICS FORMATS THAT IMPORT TO WPWIN 6.0/6.1
  19. =============================================
  20. The following general restrictions apply to all imported
  21. graphics:
  22.  
  23. 1)   WPWin 6.0/6.1 does not support image viewports larger than
  24.      27 inches (67.5 cm).
  25. 2)   Graphics conversions match text fonts when possible.  If a
  26.      matching font is not available, the text font will default
  27.      to Helvetica.
  28. 3)   There is limited support for the contoured text feature.
  29.      Complex contoured text paths, such as rounded rectangles or
  30.      ellipses, may display differently than the original file.
  31.  
  32. WPWin 6.0/6.1 imports the following graphics file formats:
  33.  
  34. BMP       (OS/2 and Windows)
  35.           No restrictions.
  36.  
  37. CGM       (CALS CGM specification MIL-D-28003A)
  38.           CALS CGM specification MIL-D-28003A version 1 format is
  39.           supported, with the following exceptions:  Polygon Set
  40.           is not converted, Cell Array is not converted, and Text
  41.           Path Up is not fully supported (the text converts, but
  42.           it does not align vertically).  Only conversion for the
  43.           binary CGM format is supported.  The Clear Text format
  44.           is not converted.
  45.  
  46. EPS       (Adobe PostScript)
  47.           The EPS file must be a valid EPS file (the first 
  48.           characters must be "%!PS-Adobe" or "%%PS-Adobe").
  49.  
  50.           EPS files that contain valid TIFF and WMF previews are
  51.           converted.  The converted TIFF and WMF previews allow
  52.           display of the image in WPWin.  EPS files without the
  53.           TIFF or WMF preview will display the message "This file
  54.           contains data for PostScript printers only."
  55.  
  56. LPIC      (Lotus PIC)
  57.           Fonts convert to Helvetica or Times Roman.  Conversion
  58.           supports the 16 standard EGA colours.
  59.  
  60. PCX       (Paintbrush 3.x)
  61.           See the general restrictions above.
  62.  
  63. PICT      (Macintosh PICT and PICT2)
  64.           PICT is a journal of Macintosh-rendering calls.  Some
  65.           PICT entities are not supported, such as the Clipping
  66.           Region (a Clipping Region is used to display only the
  67.           desired portion of an image, such as a circle with a
  68.           shaded gradient colour).  Drawing mode is converted to
  69.           Copy mode (Drawing mode is used to determine whether
  70.           you see one object overlap another object or two
  71.           objects 'melt' together; Copy mode is used to overlay
  72.           objects).
  73.  
  74. TARGA     (TARGA Truevision)
  75.           Some TARGA graphics files may not import into
  76.           WPWin 6.0/6.1.  If this happens, check the file
  77.           extension, and make sure it is one of the following:
  78.          .TGA, .VDA, .ICB, or .VST.
  79.  
  80. TIFF      (Tagged Image File Format up to version 6.0)
  81.           TIFF files, version 6.0 and below, are converted.  An
  82.           exception to this is that files using the LZW
  83.           compression will return the error message "Unsupported
  84.           file format."  Only the first image in a file is
  85.           converted to WPG 2.0 format.
  86.  
  87. WMF       (Windows Metafile 3.x)
  88.           WMF is a collection of Windows rendering functions.
  89.           Region functions are not converted.  Rendering modes
  90.           other than Copy Mode convert to Copy Mode.
  91.  
  92. DXF       (AutoCAD versions 9 - 12)
  93.           Polyline joints are not always smooth after conversion
  94.           if the line has a large width.  Fill patterns and line
  95.           styles use a best fit matching method.  3-D is not
  96.           supported.  To preserve the look of a 3-D drawing, the
  97.           file should be exported as an HPGL file using the HP
  98.           7550 plotter.
  99.  
  100.           For best results when using DXF files from Micrografx
  101.           products, ungroup any elements in the image before
  102.           exporting.  If this is not done, elements of that image
  103.           will position differently than the original file.
  104.  
  105. MGX       (Micrografx Designer 3.1)
  106.           User-defined fills convert to solid fills.  Combined
  107.           symbols may position differently than the original
  108.           file.  Uncombined symbols will position correctly.
  109.  
  110. HPGL      (Hewlett Packard Graphics Language)
  111.           For best results, use an HP7550 plotter definition when
  112.           exporting HPGL files to be used in WordPerfect.  This
  113.           allows for the enhanced instruction set to be used in
  114.           the HPGL file.
  115.  
  116. WPG       (WordPerfect Graphics formats)
  117.           WPG 1.0 -- This format includes graphics from
  118.           DrawPerfect 1.0/1.1 and WPWin 5.1/5.2.  See the general
  119.           restrictions above.  See also Graphics Conversion
  120.           Limitations for WPG Graphics Formats later in this
  121.           README.
  122.  
  123.           WPG-Presentations 2.0 -- This format includes graphics
  124.           from WordPerfect Presentations 2.0.  Both the chart and
  125.           chart data are converted.  However, for bullet and
  126.           organisation charts, only the chart is converted; the
  127.           data is not converted.  For conversion of contoured
  128.           text, see Graphics Conversion Limitations for WPG
  129.           Graphics Formats later in this README.
  130.  
  131.           WPG 2.0 -- This format includes graphics from
  132.           WordPerfect 6.0/6.1.  Both the chart and chart data are
  133.           converted.  However, for bullet and organisation
  134.           charts, only the  chart is converted; the data is not
  135.           converted.  For conversion of contoured text, see
  136.           Graphics Conversion Limitations for WPG Graphics
  137.           Formats later in this README.
  138.  
  139. GRAPHICS FORMATS THAT EXPORT FROM WPWIN 6.0/6.1
  140. ===============================================
  141. The following general restrictions apply to all exported
  142. graphics:
  143.  
  144. 1)   Graphics conversions match text fonts when possible.  If a
  145.      matching font is not available, the text font will default
  146.      to Helvetica.
  147. 2)   There is limited support for the contoured text feature.
  148.      Complex contoured text paths, such as rounded rectangles or
  149.      ellipses, may display differently than the original file.
  150.  
  151. WPWin 6.0/6.1 exports the following graphics file formats:
  152.  
  153. WPG 1.0   (DrawPerfect 1.0/1.1, WordPerfect 5.1/5.2 Graphics
  154.           Format)
  155.           Custom line styles and patterns are 'best fit' to
  156.           predefined line styles and patterns.
  157.  
  158.           This format supports up to 256 colours in bitmap images
  159.           (2, 4, and 8 bits per pixel).  Anything over 8 bits per
  160.           pixel will be dithered to 8 bits per pixel during
  161.           conversion, and therefore may display differently than
  162.           the original image.
  163.  
  164.           Charts are converted, but the data used to build the
  165.           chart is not converted.
  166.  
  167.           Polysplines are not converted.
  168.  
  169.           Groups or combined objects convert to separate
  170.           elements. They are arranged by size (largest in back
  171.           and smallest in front). Groups that have been rotated,
  172.           scaled, or otherwise transformed may be positioned
  173.           differently than in the WPG 2.0 image.
  174.  
  175.           Text along a path is not supported (the text is
  176.           converted but the path is not). 
  177.  
  178.           Gradient-filled objects use the top (foreground) colour
  179.           as the fill colour.
  180.  
  181.           Closed, filled curves convert to filled polygons.
  182.  
  183. WPG-Presentations 2.0
  184.           (WordPerfect Presentations 2.0 Graphics Format)
  185.           Custom line styles and patterns are 'best fit' to
  186.           predefined line styles and patterns.
  187.  
  188.           Only the chart is converted for bullet and
  189.           organisation charts.
  190.  
  191.           Groups are not converted.  The elements in the group
  192.           are converted separately.  Unlike the WPG 1.0 format,
  193.           if the group has had a transformation applied to it,
  194.           elements are positioned the same as the WPG 2.0 format.
  195.  
  196.           This format supports up to 256 colours in bitmap images

  216. WPWIN 5.1/5.2 FEATURES THAT CONVERT TO WPWIN 6.0/6.1
  217. ====================================================
  218. For better conversion from WPWin 5.1/5.2 to WPWin 6.0/6.1 and
  219. back to WPWin 5.1/5.2, we recommend that you open the document in
  220. WPWin 6.0/6.1, move the cursor to the end, then save the document
  221. before converting it back to WPWin 5.1/5.2.
  222.  
  223. Setting Fast Save to "No" in WPWin 5.1/5.2 will force a document
  224. to be formatted when it is saved.  A formatted document converts
  225. better to WordPerfect and other formats.  To disable the Fast
  226. Save feature in WPWin 5.1/5.2, refer to the reference manual for
  227. that version.
  228.  
  229. Most WPWin 5.1/5.2 features convert directly to a WPWin 6.0/6.1
  230. feature.  Some WPWin 5.1/5.2 features become two or more features
  231. in WPWin 6.0/6.1 or simply do not convert to a comparable feature
  232. in WPWin 6.0/6.1.  This section of the README lists these
  233. conversion exceptions.
  234.  
  235. The name of the WPWin 5.1/5.2 feature or code is listed in
  236. uppercase.  A description of the converted feature or code in
  237. WPWin 6.0/6.1 follows the name.
  238.  
  239. COLUMN DEF / COLUMN ON  --  The two codes become one code in
  240. WPWin 6.0/6.1.  A Column Definition code is inserted where the
  241. Column On code was located in the WPWin 5.1/5.2 document.
  242.  
  243. CONDITIONAL END OF PAGE  --  The Conditional End Of Page code is
  244. moved to the first line of Lines to Keep Together.
  245.  
  246. DATE CODE  --  Date Format and Date Code.
  247.  
  248. DOCUMENT SUMMARY, CREATION DATE  --  Converts to original WPWin
  249. 5.1/5.2 file's creation date.
  250.  
  251. FONTS  --  Fonts will match best if the same WordPerfect or
  252. Windows printer is selected in WPWin 6.0/6.1 and WPWin 5.1/5.2.
  253.  
  254. LEADING ADJUSTMENT, PRIMARY  --  Leading.
  255.  
  256. LEADING ADJUSTMENT, SECONDARY  --  Paragraph Spacing.
  257.  
  258. MERGE CODES, {INPUT}~  --  KEYBOARD()
  259.  
  260. OUTLINE STYLES  --  Each outline level is converted to an
  261. individual paragraph style.
  262.  
  263. TABLE COLUMN FORMAT, SPACING BETWEEN TEXT AND LINES  --  Table,
  264. Column, and Row Margin settings.
  265.  
  266. PAGE FORMAT CODES  --  Codes that are not at the top of the page
  267. in WPWin 5.1/5.2 are placed in a Delay code and activated on the
  268. following page in WPWin 6.0/6.1.
  269.  
  270. STYLE, NAMES  --  Style names longer than 12 characters are
  271. truncated.  If two style names are identical, the second is given
  272. a unique name during conversion.
  273.  
  274. WPWIN 6.0/6.1 FEATURES THAT CONVERT TO WPWIN 5.1/5.2
  275. ====================================================
  276. Many functions that are new in WPWin 6.0/6.1 are not converted to
  277. WPWin 5.1/5.2 unless a similar function exists in WPWin 5.1/5.2.
  278.  
  279. The name of the WPWin 6.0/6.1 feature or code is listed in
  280. uppercase.  A description of the converted feature or code in
  281. WPWin 5.1/5.2 follows the name.

  283. BAR CODE  --  Preserved as [UNKNOWN] code, which is restored when
  284. the file is converted back to WPWin 6.0/6.1.
