README.CNV 11/04/94
=================================================================
This README file contains general information about the graphics
formats that import to WordPerfect for Windows (WPWin) version
6.0/6.1, the graphics formats that export from WPWin 6.0/6.1,
graphics conversion limitations for WPG graphics formats, and the
conversion of features and codes in WPWin 5.1/5.2 and 6.0/6.1.
This README file contains the following information:
1 Graphics Formats that Import to WPWin 6.0/6.1
2 Graphics Formats that Export from WPWin 6.0/6.1
3 Graphics Conversion Limitations for WPG Graphics Formats
4 WPWin 5.1/5.2 Features that Convert to WPWin 6.0/6.1
5 WPWin 6.0/6.1 Features that Convert to WPWin 5.1/5.2
GRAPHICS FORMATS THAT IMPORT TO WPWIN 6.0/6.1
=============================================
The following general restrictions apply to all imported
graphics:
1) WPWin 6.0/6.1 does not support image viewports larger than
27 inches (67.5 cm).
2) Graphics conversions match text fonts when possible. If a
matching font is not available, the text font will default
to Helvetica.
3) There is limited support for the contoured text feature.
Complex contoured text paths, such as rounded rectangles or
ellipses, may display differently than the original file.
WPWin 6.0/6.1 imports the following graphics file formats:
BMP (OS/2 and Windows)
No restrictions.
CGM (CALS CGM specification MIL-D-28003A)
CALS CGM specification MIL-D-28003A version 1 format is
supported, with the following exceptions: Polygon Set
is not converted, Cell Array is not converted, and Text
Path Up is not fully supported (the text converts, but
it does not align vertically). Only conversion for the
binary CGM format is supported. The Clear Text format
is not converted.
EPS (Adobe PostScript)
The EPS file must be a valid EPS file (the first
characters must be "%!PS-Adobe" or "%%PS-Adobe").
EPS files that contain valid TIFF and WMF previews are
converted. The converted TIFF and WMF previews allow
display of the image in WPWin. EPS files without the
TIFF or WMF preview will display the message "This file
contains data for PostScript printers only."
LPIC (Lotus PIC)
Fonts convert to Helvetica or Times Roman. Conversion
supports the 16 standard EGA colours.
PCX (Paintbrush 3.x)
See the general restrictions above.
PICT (Macintosh PICT and PICT2)
PICT is a journal of Macintosh-rendering calls. Some
PICT entities are not supported, such as the Clipping
Region (a Clipping Region is used to display only the
desired portion of an image, such as a circle with a
shaded gradient colour). Drawing mode is converted to
Copy mode (Drawing mode is used to determine whether
you see one object overlap another object or two
objects 'melt' together; Copy mode is used to overlay
objects).
TARGA (TARGA Truevision)
Some TARGA graphics files may not import into
WPWin 6.0/6.1. If this happens, check the file
extension, and make sure it is one of the following:
.TGA, .VDA, .ICB, or .VST.
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format up to version 6.0)
TIFF files, version 6.0 and below, are converted. An
exception to this is that files using the LZW
compression will return the error message "Unsupported
file format." Only the first image in a file is
converted to WPG 2.0 format.
WMF (Windows Metafile 3.x)
WMF is a collection of Windows rendering functions.
Region functions are not converted. Rendering modes
other than Copy Mode convert to Copy Mode.
DXF (AutoCAD versions 9 - 12)
Polyline joints are not always smooth after conversion
if the line has a large width. Fill patterns and line
styles use a best fit matching method. 3-D is not
supported. To preserve the look of a 3-D drawing, the
file should be exported as an HPGL file using the HP
7550 plotter.
For best results when using DXF files from Micrografx
products, ungroup any elements in the image before
exporting. If this is not done, elements of that image
will position differently than the original file.
MGX (Micrografx Designer 3.1)
User-defined fills convert to solid fills. Combined
symbols may position differently than the original
file. Uncombined symbols will position correctly.
HPGL (Hewlett Packard Graphics Language)
For best results, use an HP7550 plotter definition when
exporting HPGL files to be used in WordPerfect. This
allows for the enhanced instruction set to be used in
the HPGL file.
WPG (WordPerfect Graphics formats)
WPG 1.0 -- This format includes graphics from
DrawPerfect 1.0/1.1 and WPWin 5.1/5.2. See the general
restrictions above. See also Graphics Conversion
Limitations for WPG Graphics Formats later in this
README.
WPG-Presentations 2.0 -- This format includes graphics
from WordPerfect Presentations 2.0. Both the chart and
chart data are converted. However, for bullet and
organisation charts, only the chart is converted; the
data is not converted. For conversion of contoured
text, see Graphics Conversion Limitations for WPG
Graphics Formats later in this README.
WPG 2.0 -- This format includes graphics from
WordPerfect 6.0/6.1. Both the chart and chart data are
converted. However, for bullet and organisation
charts, only the chart is converted; the data is not
converted. For conversion of contoured text, see
Graphics Conversion Limitations for WPG Graphics
Formats later in this README.
GRAPHICS FORMATS THAT EXPORT FROM WPWIN 6.0/6.1
===============================================
The following general restrictions apply to all exported
graphics:
1) Graphics conversions match text fonts when possible. If a
matching font is not available, the text font will default
to Helvetica.
2) There is limited support for the contoured text feature.
Complex contoured text paths, such as rounded rectangles or
ellipses, may display differently than the original file.
WPWin 6.0/6.1 exports the following graphics file formats:
WPG 1.0 (DrawPerfect 1.0/1.1, WordPerfect 5.1/5.2 Graphics
Format)
Custom line styles and patterns are 'best fit' to
predefined line styles and patterns.
This format supports up to 256 colours in bitmap images
(2, 4, and 8 bits per pixel). Anything over 8 bits per
pixel will be dithered to 8 bits per pixel during
conversion, and therefore may display differently than
the original image.
Charts are converted, but the data used to build the
chart is not converted.
Polysplines are not converted.
Groups or combined objects convert to separate
elements. They are arranged by size (largest in back
and smallest in front). Groups that have been rotated,
scaled, or otherwise transformed may be positioned
differently than in the WPG 2.0 image.
Text along a path is not supported (the text is
converted but the path is not).
Gradient-filled objects use the top (foreground) colour
as the fill colour.
Closed, filled curves convert to filled polygons.
WPG-Presentations 2.0
(WordPerfect Presentations 2.0 Graphics Format)
Custom line styles and patterns are 'best fit' to
predefined line styles and patterns.
Only the chart is converted for bullet and
organisation charts.
Groups are not converted. The elements in the group
are converted separately. Unlike the WPG 1.0 format,
if the group has had a transformation applied to it,
elements are positioned the same as the WPG 2.0 format.
This format supports up to 256 colours in bitmap images
(2, 4, and 8 bits per pixel). Anything over 8 bits per
pixel will be dithered to 8 bits per pixel during
conversion, and therefore may display differently than
the original image.
There is limited support for contoured text. Complex
contoured text paths, such as rounded rectangles and
ellipses, may display differently than WPG 2.0.
Polysplines are not converted.
Polymarkers are not converted.
Presentations 2.0 for DOS or Windows will not display
or print the WMF data.
WPG 2.0 (WordPerfect 6.0/6.1 Graphics Format)
See the general restrictions above.
WPWIN 5.1/5.2 FEATURES THAT CONVERT TO WPWIN 6.0/6.1
====================================================
For better conversion from WPWin 5.1/5.2 to WPWin 6.0/6.1 and
back to WPWin 5.1/5.2, we recommend that you open the document in
WPWin 6.0/6.1, move the cursor to the end, then save the document
before converting it back to WPWin 5.1/5.2.
Setting Fast Save to "No" in WPWin 5.1/5.2 will force a document
to be formatted when it is saved. A formatted document converts
better to WordPerfect and other formats. To disable the Fast
Save feature in WPWin 5.1/5.2, refer to the reference manual for
that version.
Most WPWin 5.1/5.2 features convert directly to a WPWin 6.0/6.1
feature. Some WPWin 5.1/5.2 features become two or more features
in WPWin 6.0/6.1 or simply do not convert to a comparable feature
in WPWin 6.0/6.1. This section of the README lists these
conversion exceptions.
The name of the WPWin 5.1/5.2 feature or code is listed in
uppercase. A description of the converted feature or code in
WPWin 6.0/6.1 follows the name.
COLUMN DEF / COLUMN ON -- The two codes become one code in
WPWin 6.0/6.1. A Column Definition code is inserted where the
Column On code was located in the WPWin 5.1/5.2 document.
CONDITIONAL END OF PAGE -- The Conditional End Of Page code is
moved to the first line of Lines to Keep Together.
DATE CODE -- Date Format and Date Code.
DOCUMENT SUMMARY, CREATION DATE -- Converts to original WPWin
5.1/5.2 file's creation date.
FONTS -- Fonts will match best if the same WordPerfect or
Windows printer is selected in WPWin 6.0/6.1 and WPWin 5.1/5.2.
LEADING ADJUSTMENT, PRIMARY -- Leading.
LEADING ADJUSTMENT, SECONDARY -- Paragraph Spacing.
MERGE CODES, {INPUT}~ -- KEYBOARD()
OUTLINE STYLES -- Each outline level is converted to an
individual paragraph style.
TABLE COLUMN FORMAT, SPACING BETWEEN TEXT AND LINES -- Table,
Column, and Row Margin settings.
PAGE FORMAT CODES -- Codes that are not at the top of the page
in WPWin 5.1/5.2 are placed in a Delay code and activated on the
following page in WPWin 6.0/6.1.
STYLE, NAMES -- Style names longer than 12 characters are
truncated. If two style names are identical, the second is given
a unique name during conversion.
WPWIN 6.0/6.1 FEATURES THAT CONVERT TO WPWIN 5.1/5.2
====================================================
Many functions that are new in WPWin 6.0/6.1 are not converted to
WPWin 5.1/5.2 unless a similar function exists in WPWin 5.1/5.2.
The name of the WPWin 6.0/6.1 feature or code is listed in
uppercase. A description of the converted feature or code in
WPWin 5.1/5.2 follows the name.
BAR CODE -- Preserved as [UNKNOWN] code, which is restored when
the file is converted back to WPWin 6.0/6.1.
BINDING EDGE, BOTTOM -- Binding Edge, Top.
BINDING EDGE, RIGHT -- Binding Edge, Left.

moved to the line above the first line of Lines to Keep
Together.
COUNTER -- Not converted; however, the text is preserved.
CROSS REFERENCE: COUNTER, SECONDARY PAGE, CHAPTER, AND VOLUME --
Not converted.
DELAY CODE -- Not converted; however, features in the Delay
code are placed where they should take effect in the converted
document.
DOCUMENT INITIAL CODES STYLE -- Document Initial Codes.
WPWin 6.0/6.1 allows features in the Initial Style that WPWin
5.1/5.2 does not allow in Document Initial Codes; they are not
converted.
