ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This product would not be possible (or necessary) if it were not for
the wonderful genius' of:
Rex Conn, Tom Rawson, and JP Software Inc.
4DOS is possibly the best program I have or will ever see.
Robert K. Jung.
If ARJ is not the best archiving system around (and I think
it is), then at least it has brought around a desire for
something better.
Haruyasu Yoshizaki
Hey, what can be said? PC Magazine calls LHA the best
compression program around. What more is needed?
PKWARE, Inc.
Once again, as far as I'm concerned, it's where file compression
REALLY began.
Also, this program would not be if it were not for the wonderful
editor I found while trying to get 4MICA started. QEDIT Advanced
v2.15 of Semware. I tried many editors, and I think I've found
home.

Introduction
────────────
This manual exists for the sole purpose that a) 4MICA can be explained,
b) installation will be easier, and c) because it is expected. It can
be printed by entering 'type 4mica.doc > prn'.
4MICA is a simple to use batch shell for use archiving files with either
PKZIP (current version 1.10) or ARJ (current version 2.22). It requires
4DOS v4.0 or greater for use. If you have not used PKZIP, where have you
been? If you do not use ARJ, then, I really think you should take a look
at it. And if you do not use 4DOS, are you crazy!? That MS-DOS command
line is scary without it.
4MICA was developed with the ideals of fast operation, ease of use, and
and compact program size (all together its 8K!).
System Requirements
───────────────────
4MICA will run on any IBM compatible computer.
Minimum requirements are:
- 30 KB of memory
- MS-DOS 3.3, PC-DOS 3.3, DR-DOS v5.0 or greater
- 4DOS 4.0 or greater
Installation
────────────
Before installing 4MICA, please read the READ.ME file included in the
4MICA26.ZIP file. This file contains information that I think you, as
the user, should know; it covers nothing technical, just some things
I want to say.
The READ.ME file also contains a complete list of the files included in
the 4MICA25B.ZIP file.
Installation of 4MICA is easy. Simply copy 4MICA and its files to the
directory C:\4MICA, or anywhere in your path. When you have done this,
add C:\4MICA (or whatever directory you put 4MICA in) to your path.
That's it! 4MICA is now installed.
User's Guide / Quick Start
──────────────────────────
This section is just a quick run through with simple instructions. 4MICA
really does not require anything more complicated.
Create File Archive
───────────────────
The current directory is displayed, along with the current compiler
setup. When asked for name of archive to create, enter the filename you
wish to you for your new archive. Then, select from the listed files the
files you wish to be contained in the archive. After 4MICA is through
compiling hit any key to return to the menu.
Convert Archive
───────────────
Choose which conversion you wish to be done. Then select the archives you
wish to be converted. After 4MICA is through with the conversion hit any
key to return to the menu.
Extract File Archive
────────────────────
Set the destination path for your extracted archives, then choose which
system (PKUNZIP, ARJ or LHA) to use for the decompiling. Select from the
files listed the archives you wish to decompile. When 4MICA is through,
hit any key to return to the menu.
View File Archive
─────────────────
Select the archive you wish to view. 4MICA will display the contents of
the archive. When through, hit any key to return to the menu.
Mini DOS
────────
Using this part of 4MICA you can view the current directory, change
directories, goto files, copy files, move files, and delete files nothing
very complicated at all.
This documentation file (4MICA.DOC) has given you a simple description
of what 4MICA is and what it can do. I ask you again to please read the
READ.ME file and also, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE (do I sound like I'm
begging? Well, hmmm...that's up to you to decide.) register 4MICA. I
have plans for more batch files using 4DOS' batch processor. 4DOS is a
wonderful creation and we all need to use it to its fullest. I thank
you for giving my 4MICA program a look over even if you have decided
that 4MICA is not for you.
Look for GO QUICK! (current version is 1.30), another wonderful batch
program for the users of 4DOS, from CelestialWare!. GO QUICK! brings
many of the features found in various programs together into one small
batch program. GO QUICK! has such features as Find File & Display, Goto
File, Goto Directory, and its best feature: a popup menu of your
current directories to select from and goto. GO QUICK! uses 4DOS' batch
processor to the limit to bring you an easy to understand menu system
and quick movement.
