  6. This document contains important information that is not,
  7. in most cases, included in the printed documentation or 
  8. online Help. The following topics are covered:

  29. What's New in Freelance Graphics for Windows Release 2.1  
  30. --------------------------------------------------------

  32. Freelance Graphics for Windows Release 2.1 is designed to be
  33. an effective member of Lotus SmartSuite--a suite of applications
  34. designed to look alike and work together with unparalleled 
  35. compatibility.
  36.  
  37. Release 2.1 includes these additions:
  38.  
  39.  * Enhanced integration with Notes/FX Release 1.1.  Doc Info fields
  40.    enable a presentation to exchange information with a Notes database.
  41.  
  42.  * There are several changes to the File commands when you are editing 
  43.    a presentation that is an embedded OLE object.  A new command, File 
  44.    Close & Return to <client>, closes the presentation and returns to 
  45.    the client application, leaving the Freelance Graphics application 
  46.    open (unlike the older File Exit & Return, which closes the Freelance 
  47.    Graphics application).  The following command names have changed 
  48.    slightly, but their functionality remains the same:

  52.       File Save Copy As File
  53.  
  54.       File Exit & Return to <client>

  56.  * When you edit a presentation that is an embedded object in a Lotus 
  57.    Notes database, a new command, Window <object> in Lotus Notes, 
  58.    allows you to quickly switch back to Notes.  
  59.  
  60.  * Bubble help for SmartIcons displays a short description above the
  61.    icon.  Automatic bubble help is enabled by default at installation.  
  62.    To display automatic bubble help, hold the mouse pointer still on an 
  63.    icon.  When automatic bubble help is disabled, you can still display 
  64.    bubble help by holding the mouse pointer on an icon and pressing the 
  65.    right mouse button.

  67.  * This release of Freelance Graphics for Windows is installed using 
  68.    a new Installation program.  For more information, see the online 
  69.    Help during installation.

  71.  * You can now select alternative translation tables from the 
  72.    International User Setup dialog box.  Choose Tools User Setup and 
  73.    click International to display this dialog box.
  74.  
  75.  * This release contains additional and improved SmartMaster sets.  
  76.    All of the sets now use TrueType fonts, and several new sets have 
  77.    simple prompts that walk you through the process of creating new 
  78.    presentations.  All new sets have names beginning with the digit 
  79.    one followed by an underscore (1_).

  81.  * Freelance Graphics for Windows no longer requires Adobe Type 
  82.    Manager (ATM).  If you installed ATM only to support Freelance 
  83.    Graphics for Windows, you can disable ATM to free some system 
  84.    resources by following the instructions in "Turn Off ATM" in 
  85.    online Help.  But note that if you have created presentations 
  86.    with an earlier release using ATM fonts, you may want to leave 
  87.    ATM turned on, so that those presentations will display exactly 
  88.    as they did when you created them.

  90.  * This release of Freelance Graphics for Windows supports Microsoft 
  91.    Windows Version 3.1 and later, and has a filter for Excel Version
  92.    5 files.

  95. Upgrading from Previous Releases of Freelance Graphics
  96. ------------------------------------------------------

  98. If you have previously used Freelance Plus, Freelance Graphics for 
  99. DOS, or Freelance Graphics for Windows Release 1.0, 2.0, or 2.01, 
  100. see "For Upgraders" in online Help for information about using this 
  101. release.

  104. Requirements for the QuickStart Tutorial
  105. ----------------------------------------

  107. Lotus strongly recommends a minimum of 4MB of RAM to run
  108. the QuickStart tutorial.
  109.  
  110. The tutorial also requires that you have a default printer
  111. installed in the Windows Control Panel. If you do not have
  112. a printer connected to your PC or available through a
  113. network, use the Windows Control Panel to install a
  114. PostScript or laser printer driver and set that printer as the
  115. default. (Note that if you installed the QuickStart tutorial,
  116. Freelance Graphics automatically runs the tutorial the first
  117. time you start Freelance Graphics. Therefore, you must have
  118. a default printer installed before you start Freelance Graphics
  119. the first time.)

  122. Installing Freelance Graphics for Windows

  125. If you receive an "Access Denied" error during installation,
  126. it may be because you do not have write-access to the LOTUSAPP
  127. directory. If this happens, make a note of the path and file name
  128. displayed in the error message, and contact your network
  129. administrator to have that file placed in the appropriate directory.

  131. When you install Freelance Graphics for Windows on a node for 
  132. the first time, you should be logged on as the actual user, and
  133. not as the network administrator. This allows the LOTUS.INI file
  134. to record the correct path information for Freelance Graphics.

  137. About the FLW2.INI File
  138. -----------------------
  139.  
  140. When you install Freelance Graphics for Windows, the
  141. Installation program transfers a file named FLW2.INI to
  142. your Windows directory. This file contains initialization
  143. specifications for Freelance Graphics. The file contains
  144. comments that clearly describe each line. You can also 
  145. see "About the FLW2.INI File" in online Help for more
  146. information.

  149. Changing Your Display Screen
  150. ----------------------------

  152. When you install Freelance Graphics it determines the type
  153. of screen you are using and copies the appropriate program
  154. files to the Freelance Graphics program directory. If
  155. you change your computer's display screen, you must rerun
  156. the Freelance Graphics Installation program and choose the 
  157. appropriate display type.

  160. Improving Your Organization Charts
  161. ----------------------------------
  162.  
  163. Freelance Graphics makes it easy to create good-looking
  164. organization charts. But if you try to create a large chart, 
  165. or if your entries are particularly long, the font size may be
  166. too small. In these cases, there are several options you can
  167. try to improve the appearance of your charts:
  168.  
  169.   * Choose a vertical layout (such as laddered list) for the
  170.     bottom layer of the chart in the Organization Chart
  171.     Gallery dialog box.
  172.  
  173.   * Change the size of the organization chart by dragging the
  174.     selection handles. Move the page title if appropriate.
  175.  
  176.   * Increase the text size manually. First, unmark
  177.     "Automatically size entry text" in the Organization Chart
  178.     Gallery dialog box. Then change the text size for the text
  179.     in all the boxes in the chart (using the Organization Chart
  180.     Attributes dialog box). If long lines run over the edge of a
  181.     box, break up the line by pressing CTRL+ENTER.

  184. Using Video for Windows Files in Indeo Format

  187. To play a Video for Windows file in Indeo format using an Intel
  188. Indeo add-in board, you need a version of the Indeo video driver
  189. later than 2.1. Contact Intel for more information.

  192. Running Freelance Graphics with HP NewWave
  193. ------------------------------------------
  194.  
  195. Freelance Graphics is installed as a tool in HP NewWave.
  196. You can change it to an object, but it is not an HP NewWave
  197. application. See your HP NewWave documentation for more
  198. information.
