Release 2.1 includes these additions: * Enhanced integration with Notes/FX Release 1.1. Doc Info fields enable a presentation to exchange information with a Notes database. * There are several changes to the File commands when you are editing a presentation that is an embedded OLE object. A new command, File Close & Return to , closes the presentation and returns to the client application, leaving the Freelance Graphics application open (unlike the older File Exit & Return, which closes the Freelance Graphics application). The following command names have changed slightly, but their functionality remains the same: File Update File Save Copy As File File Exit & Return to * When you edit a presentation that is an embedded object in a Lotus Notes database, a new command, Window in Lotus Notes, allows you to quickly switch back to Notes. * Bubble help for SmartIcons displays a short description above the icon. Automatic bubble help is enabled by default at installation. To display automatic bubble help, hold the mouse pointer still on an icon. When automatic bubble help is disabled, you can still display bubble help by holding the mouse pointer on an icon and pressing the right mouse button. * This release of Freelance Graphics for Windows is installed using a new Installation program. For more information, see the online Help during installation. * You can now select alternative translation tables from the International User Setup dialog box. Choose Tools User Setup and click International to display this dialog box. * This release contains additional and improved SmartMaster sets. All of the sets now use TrueType fonts, and several new sets have simple prompts that walk you through the process of creating new presentations. All new sets have names beginning with the digit one followed by an underscore (1_). * Freelance Graphics for Windows no longer requires Adobe Type Manager (ATM). If you installed ATM only to support Freelance Graphics for Windows, you can disable ATM to free some system resources by following the instructions in "Turn Off ATM" in online Help. But note that if you have created presentations with an earlier release using ATM fonts, you may want to leave ATM turned on, so that those presentations will display exactly as they did when you created them. * This release of Freelance Graphics for Windows supports Microsoft Windows Version 3.1 and later, and has a filter for Excel Version 5 files. ------------------------------------------------------ Upgrading from Previous Releases of Freelance Graphics ------------------------------------------------------ If you have previously used Freelance Plus, Freelance Graphics for DOS, or Freelance Graphics for Windows Release 1.0, 2.0, or 2.01, see "For Upgraders" in online Help for information about using this release. ---------------------------------------- Requirements for the QuickStart Tutorial ---------------------------------------- Lotus strongly recommends a minimum of 4MB of RAM to run the QuickStart tutorial. The tutorial also requires that you have a default printer installed in the Windows Control Panel. If you do not have a printer connected to your PC or available through a network, use the Windows Control Panel to install a PostScript or laser printer driver and set that printer as the default. (Note that if you installed the QuickStart tutorial, Freelance Graphics automatically runs the tutorial the first time you start Freelance Graphics. Therefore, you must have a default printer installed before you start Freelance Graphics the first time.) ----------------------------------------- Installing Freelance Graphics for Windows ----------------------------------------- If you receive an "Access Denied" error during installation, it may be because you do not have write-access to the LOTUSAPP directory. If this happens, make a note of the path and file name displayed in the error message, and contact your network administrator to have that file placed in the appropriate directory. When you install Freelance Graphics for Windows on a node for the first time, you should be logged on as the actual user, and not as the network administrator. This allows the LOTUS.INI file to record the correct path information for Freelance Graphics. ----------------------- About the FLW2.INI File ----------------------- When you install Freelance Graphics for Windows, the Installation program transfers a file named FLW2.INI to your Windows directory. This file contains initialization specifications for Freelance Graphics. The file contains comments that clearly describe each line. You can also see "About the FLW2.INI File" in online Help for more information. ---------------------------- Changing Your Display Screen ---------------------------- When you install Freelance Graphics it determines the type of screen you are using and copies the appropriate program files to the Freelance Graphics program directory. If you change your computer's display screen, you must rerun the Freelance Graphics Installation program and choose the appropriate display type. ---------------------------------- Improving Your Organization Charts ---------------------------------- Freelance Graphics makes it easy to create good-looking organization charts. But if you try to create a large chart, or if your entries are particularly long, the font size may be too small. In these cases, there are several options you can try to improve the appearance of your charts: * Choose a vertical layout (such as laddered list) for the bottom layer of the chart in the Organization Chart Gallery dialog box. * Change the size of the organization chart by dragging the selection handles. Move the page title if appropriate. * Increase the text size manually. First, unmark "Automatically size entry text" in the Organization Chart Gallery dialog box. Then change the text size for the text in all the boxes in the chart (using the Organization Chart Attributes dialog box). If long lines run over the edge of a box, break up the line by pressing CTRL+ENTER. --------------------------------------------- Using Video for Windows Files in Indeo Format --------------------------------------------- To play a Video for Windows file in Indeo format using an Intel Indeo add-in board, you need a version of the Indeo video driver later than 2.1. Contact Intel for more information. ------------------------------------------ Running Freelance Graphics with HP NewWave ------------------------------------------ Freelance Graphics is installed as a tool in HP NewWave. You can change it to an object, but it is not an HP NewWave application. See your HP NewWave documentation for more information.
