  11. 1: BC3K System Requirements
  12.

  15.  .PROCESSOR  : Pentium 166 or higher
  16.  
  17.  .OPERATING
  18.   SYSTEM     : MS-DOS 6.0 or higher or
  19.                MS-DOS mode under Windows 95 is also supported
  20.  
  21.  .VIDEO CARD : VGA card with 1MB RAM or
  22.                VESA compliant SVGA card for 640x480x256 gameplay.
  23.                VLB or PCI card is highly recommended.
  24.  
  25.  .HARD DRIVE : Full install    - 160MB + 20MB for swap file.
  26.                Partial install -  55MB + 20MB for swap file.

  28.  .CD-ROM     : 2x MPC-11 compliant or higher.

  30.  .MEMORY     : 8MB minimum. 16MB recommended.

  39. 2: INSTALLATION PROBLEMS

  43. -Method #1
  44.  
  45. Insert the cd-rom in the drive, change to the drive and type
  46.  
  47. 'install' and press  <enter> (omit the quotes)
  48.  
  49. If prompted for the language type, enter the number but DO NOT press ENTER.
  50.  
  51. Follow the on screen graphical prompts. After the installation in finished,
  52. you will be prompted to setup your sound card. Select your digitized music
  53. card, test it and DISABLE the MIDI card. BC3K does not support MIDI music.
  54.  
  55. If the installation refuses to run or after it is finished some files are
  56. not copied to your hard drive. Try running under a pure DOS environment or
  57. MS-DOS mode, if you are running under Windows 95.
  58.  
  59. If you still cannot get the graphical install to run, try Method #2 below.
  60.  
  61. - Method #2
  62.  
  63. Instead of running the graphical install, try running the text version by
  64. typing
  65.  
  66. 'install t' and press <enter> (omit the quotes)
  67.  
  68. If that does not work, have some aspirins nearby and try Method #3
  69.  
  70. - Method #3 -
  71.  
  72. 1. From DOS or from MS-DOS mode under Win95 create a directory on your hard
  73.    drive for the game, i.e.
  74.  
  75.    md c:\bc3k
  76.  
  77. 2. Copy the ENTIRE cd-rom contents to the install directory, i.e. Here, I
  78.    assume that z: is your cd-rom and c:\bc3k is the install directory
  79.  
  80.    copy z:\*.* c:\bc3k /s
  81.  
  82. 3. Change to the install directory and configure your sound card by running
  83.    the
  84.    setup program
  85.  
  86.    cd c:\bc3k <enter>
  87.    setup <enter>
  88.  
  89.    Be sure to disable MIDI and _test_ the digital sound driver
  90.  
  91. 4. Back in DOS, you MUST now create a file required by the game. The file
  92.    should be a PLAIN TEXT file like the one created by Notepad.
  93.  
  94.    Type these lines in the file EXACTLY as you see them. with NO spaces!!!!
  95.    Substitute the 'cd-rom' and 'home' parameters to suit your environment. DO
  96.    NOT put a colon after the cd-rom parameter. Save the file as BC3000AD.INI
  97.    and it MUST reside in the ROOT of where you installed the game,
  98.    i.e c:\bc3k
  99.  
  100.    [BC3000AD]
  101.    cdrom=z
  102.    home=c:\bc3k

  107. 5. Once you've done that, let's see if the game will support your video
  108.    adapter. Remember, I know nothing about your machine so I'm just doing the
  109.    best I can. Please bear with me. Anyway, type this command from your
  110.    install directory to see the list of support graphics cards. If the one
  111.    used by your machine is not listed, you MUST locate and use a VESA driver.
  112.    You can download SCI-TECH Display Doctor from www.scitechsoft.com . It's
  113.    the BEST on the planet. Period. It's GUARANTEED to work with BC3K if it
  114.    supports your card in VESA mode.

  118.    If your card IS supported, start BC3K using it's profile number. See below.
  119.  
  120.    To proceed further, we're going to assume that (a) your video card is
  121.    supported or (b) it wasn't, so you went ahead and downloaded SDD which you
  122.    have now installed.

  124.    So, onto step #6. If you got this far, we're in business. This may seem long
  125.    winded but I'm a perfectionist, I do this everyday and I WANT you to PLAY
  126.    this game.

  128. 6. If you have to use VESA mode, load the VESA driver via your autoexec.bat
  129.    file, reboot the machine so that it is activated and fire 'er up in VESA
  130.    mode using the special commandline parameter as follows:
  131.  
  132.    bc3000ad /v1 <enter>
  133.  
  134.    If your card is supported, then fire 'er up using it's profile number
  135.    detected in STEP #5 above. i.e if your card has an S3 chipset, you would
  136.    type
  137.  
  138.    bc3000ad /v21 <enter>
  139.  
  140.    If you are welcomed by an intro, you're in business. You can watch it or you
  141.    can cancel it with ESCape key
  142.  
  143.    Once you get to the Main Menu, select Quit to DOS and let's proceed.
  144.  
  145. 7. In this step, we're going to assume that you have all the latest patches.
  146.  
  147.    To apply the patches:
  148.  
  149.    - Change to your BC3K install directory and unzip the patch file. Be sure
  150.      to read the README.TXT file if there is one included. Once you have
  151.      unzipped the patch file, use the following to apply the patch.
  152.      
  153.      For the US version, type:
  154.  
  155.      updateus x <enter> (where x is the cd-rom drive letter)
  156.  
  157.      For the UK version, type:
  158.  
  159.      updateuk x <enter> (where x is the cd-rom drive letter)
  160.  
  161.      *Note: You MUST have the cd-rom in the drive!!
  162.  
  163.    You can later print the BC3KVER.TXT file which contains patch update news
  164.    and BC3KEYS.TXT which contains the revised keyboard commands.

  166. 8. Once you're done applying the patches, run the game as in STEP #6
  167.  
  168.    If all goes well, you're in business.

  172. 9. Simulating a partial install to save disk space:
  173.  
  174.    You can save about 95MB of disk space (depending on the size of your disk
  175.    clusters) by deleting ALL the files in the following directories. DO NOT
  176.    remove the directories themselves and the cd-rom MUST be in the drive when
  177.    playing the game!

  186. 3: VIDEO PROBLEMS

  190. 1. If after you install the game you get a General Protection Fault when you
  191.    try to run it, you may have to configure BC3K to use your video card.
  192.  
  193.    Remember, I know nothing about your machine so I'm just doing the

  223. 4: PREVIEW MANUAL

  227. A preview release manual is available at the Take 2 or 3000AD web sites in a
  228. file called BC3KMAN.ZIP. It does not contain screen shots but the final version
  229. being released with the upcoming v1.01D will. You need the Adobe Acrobat Reader
  230. v3.0 to access the manual. You can download it at www.adobe.com

  234. 5: RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS 95
  235.

  238. Though BC3K is not supported under Windows 95 except in MS-DOS mode, some have
  239. been able to get it to run by creating a desktop shortcut using the following
  240. settings.
  241.  
  242. Refer to your Windows 95 manual for details on how to create a shortcut.
  243.  
  244. Create the shortcut on your desktop. Make sure the command line and working
  245. directory BOTH point to the BC3K install directory. If you will be forcing
  246. a video mode using the /v command, then remember to add this parameter at
  247. the end of the command line.

  249. Once you've created the shortcut, open it up and make the following changes
  250. to it's settings.
  251.  
  252.   Note: ON  = tick mark
  253.         OFF = no tick mark
  254.  
  255. Program - close on exit              = ON
  256.  
  257.           If you decide to run in MS-DOS mode if running from Win95 using this
  258.           shortcut doesn't work, then you can configure MS-DOS mode by
  259.           clicking on the 'advanced' tab.
  260.  
  261. Memory  - Total                      = AUTO
  262.           Initial Environment        = AUTO
  263.           EMS memory                 = AUTO
  264.           XMS memory                 = AUTO
  265.           Uses HMA                   = ON
