  1.      PERSONAL USE:
  2.  
  3.      For personal use (at home and non-commercial), ARJ, ARJSFX, and
  4.      ARJSFXV, ARJSFXJR may be freely used and shared with others.  There is
  5.      no REQUIRED registration fee for non-commercial, non-business,
  6.      non-institutional, non-government personal use.  Instead, we ask that
  7.      you share the ARJ software with a friend.
  8.  
  9.      For personal use, the program REARJ may be freely used only by ARJ
  10.      users.  An ARJ user is one who uses ARJ on a regular basis.  Others
  11.      who wish to use REARJ must purchase a registration for the ARJ
  12.      package.
  13.  
  14.      The user who registers receives several benefits:
  15.  
  16.      * Technical support by telephone, fax or mail.  You can get help
  17.        with any questions or problems you encounter in using ARJ.
  18.  
  19.      * The REGISTERED full version of ARJ.
  20.  
  21.      * The REGISTERED full version of REARJ.
  22.  
  23.      * The latest version of ARJR, DEARJ, and UNARJ C source code.
  24.        Most of these are only available to registered users.
  25.  
  26.      * The non-demo multiple volume self-extraction module.
  27.  
  28.      * The non-demo self-extract module command line option customization
  29.        feature.
  30.  
  31.      * The satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting the development
  32.        of good, affordable software.
  33.  
  34.  
  35.      BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM (BBS), WEB SITE, AND FTP SITE USE:
  36.  
  37.      ARJ and REARJ may be freely used on commercial and non-commercial
  38.      electronic file distribution sites (computer bulletin board systems,
  39.      WEB sites, FTP sites and so on) for the purpose of distributing *.ARJ
  40.      archive files (not including ARJ self-extracting archives).  The ARJ
  41.      shareware distribution archive (ARJnnn.EXE) may be freely distributed
  42.      by these sites.
  43.  
  44.      ARJ and REARJ may be freely used on non-commercial electronic file
  45.      distribution sites where ARJ is one of the supported primary archive
  46.      formats.  The use of ARJ and/or REARJ on a BBS where ARJ is not one of
  47.      the supported primary archive formats requires a registration or site
  48.      license.
  49.  
  50.      Support of ARJ involves allowing ARJ archives as uploads AND making
  51.      ARJ archives available as downloads.
  52.  
  53.  
  54.      INSTITUTIONAL/COMMERCIAL INTERNAL USE LICENSE/REGISTRATION:
  55.  
  56.      Any corporation, institution, government agency or business wishing to
  57.      use the ARJ software in the course of its internal business must
  58.      purchase an ARJ registration or SITE LICENSE. Any individual wishing
  59.      to use the ARJ software within a corporation, institution, government
  60.      agency or business must purchase an ARJ registration or SITE LICENSE.
  61.      The SITE LICENSE is provided for those who want to use ARJ on multiple
  62.      computers.  A sample INTERNAL USE LICENSE for the internal use of the
  63.      ARJ software is included at the end of this document. Please see the
  64.      ORDERFRM.DOC or write for terms.
  65.  
  66.      Any corporation, institution, government agency or business may use
  67.      the unregistered shareware version of ARJ only for evaluation purposes
  68.      and only for a thirty day period.  After the thirty day period, you
  69.      must either register ARJ or discontinue its use.  While you are in the
  70.      process of registering ARJ, you may continue to use the unregistered
  71.      ARJ program until you receive the registered version.
  72.  
  73.      This internal license does NOT license the inclusion of the ARJ
  74.      software with a hardware/software package that is distributed
  75.      externally.
  76.  
  77.      The unlimited SINGLE LOCATION SITE LICENSE permits ARJ internal use
  78.      for an unlimited number of computers/users at one street address. This
  79.      definition of a SINGLE LOCATION SITE is subject to change.  The
  80.      unlimited MULTIPLE LOCATION SITE LICENSE permits ARJ internal use for
  81.      an unlimited number of computers/users at all locations.
  82.  
  83.      Each computer that uses ARJ, ARJSFX, ARJSFXV, or ARJSFXJR in any way
  84.      requires licensing.  In addition, computers that are being backed up
  85.      with ARJ via a file server require licensing.  For example, if
  86.      computer Z's data is copied to a file server and that file server uses
  87.      ARJ to archive Z's data, then computer Z needs to be licensed for ARJ.
  88.  
  89.      Examples of institutional or commercial use of ARJ:
  90.  
  91.      1)  Using ARJ to backup your business programs and/or data.
  92.      2)  Using ARJ to create archives for storing or transporting business
  93.          data.
  94.      3)  Using ARJ on a company supplied home computer for company
  95.          business.
  96.      4)  Using ARJ to backup your research programs and/or data.
  97.      5)  Using ARJ on your home business computer for business purposes.
  98.  
  99.      The above examples should NOT be considered the ONLY types of
  100.      institutional or commercial use of ARJ.

  102.  
  103.      SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTION USE BY INDIVIDUALS:
  104.  
  105.      The use of ARJ to create an ARJ format archive (*.ARJ) for the purpose
  106.      of distributing shareware or freeware to computer bulletin board
  107.      systems IS NOT considered commercial use.  However, any other use of
  108.      ARJ in connection with a shareware product is commercial use.  For
  109.      example, using ARJ to backup shareware source code is commercial use.
  110.  
  111.      The inclusion of the ARJSFX/ARJSFXV/ARJSFXJR modules in software to
  112.      create self-extracting ARJ archives that are to be distributed
  113.      requires a distribution license.
  114.  
  115.  
  116.      DISTRIBUTION LICENSE:
  117.  
  118.      Standard ARJ format archives (*.ARJ) may be distributed without a
  119.      license.  The UNARJ.EXE program distributed separately may be freely
  120.      used and distributed without a license.
  121.  
  122.      Any corporation, institution, government agency or business wishing to
  123.      include DEARJ, ARJ$DISP, ARJSFX, ARJSFXV, or ARJSFXJR (self-extracting
  124.      ARJ archives) as an integral part of a software and/or hardware
  125.      package to be distributed externally must purchase a DISTRIBUTION
  126.      LICENSE. The use of ARJ on one computer to build the software and/or
  127.      hardware package is included in the DISTRIBUTION LICENSE.
  128.  
  129.      The above requirement does NOT apply to those who did NOT initiate
  130.      the inclusion of the ARJ software with the software and/or hardware
  131.      package.
  132.  
  133.      Please write for terms providing your distribution details:

  135.      1)  Expected distribution numbers in total.
  136.      2)  The approximate value/price of the package.
  137.      3)  A brief description of the software/hardware.
  138.      4)  A description of how ARJ will be used in the distribution.
  139.          In other words, is the self-extractor being used or is ARJ's
  140.          multiple volume (-v) feature required.
  141.  
  142.      If you wish to use the archiver ARJ or the conversion program REARJ
  143.      in your application software, the pricing is similar to the INTERNAL
  144.      LICENSE price schedule.  Please write for terms.

  146.  
  147.      RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONAL USE:
  148.  
  149.      To obtain the donation of a SITE LICENSE and/or DISTRIBUTION LICENSE,
  150.      please write providing details of your organization's religious and
  151.      charitable activities and the intended use for ARJ.  A free license
  152.      will be provided to qualifying organizations.  Qualifications will be
  153.      determined on a purely subjective basis.  Non-qualifying organizations
  154.      can always obtain licenses by purchase.
  155.  
  156.      Non-religious non-profit organizations promoting causes that do not
  157.      conflict with our personal faith and ethics may also qualify for a
  158.      free license.

  160.  
  161.      COMMERCIAL SALE:
  162.  
  163.      Any software dealer or library may distribute the entire ARJ package
  164.      in an unmodified form for a fee as long as the price charged for the
  165.      disk containing ARJ does not exceed US $10.00.  You may NOT distribute
  166.      any version of ARJR or DEARJ (not the same as UNARJ).
  167.  
  168.      Any software dealer or library may distribute the entire ARJ package
  169.      in an unmodified form when included in a CD-ROM shareware collection.
  170.      Moreover, permission is freely given for the use of the ARJ software
  171.      to view and/or install CD-ROM shareware collections where the entire
  172.      ARJ package is included.  No special license is required nor will a
  173.      special license be granted.

  175.      With these exceptions, the sale of ARJ or its parts for profit,
  176.      either alone or together with other software or hardware, requires a
  177.      licensing agreement possibly providing for royalty payments.  Please
  178.      write for terms.

  181.      UPGRADE POLICY FOR ARJ:
  182.  
  183.      Registered/licensed users of ARJ may upgrade ARJ to the next DOT
  184.      release (2.1 to 2.2, etc) for a small diskette fee.  See the
  185.      ORDERFRM.DOC for details.  UNLIMITED SITE LICENSE holders will get
  186.      unlimited free ARJ upgrades.

  188.      This upgrade policy applies ONLY to the ARJ archiver.

  191.      UNARJ SOURCE CODE:
  192.  
  193.      Available in a separately distributed archive is the program UNARJ.EXE
  194.      and its C source code.  UNARJ is a simple ARJ archive extraction
  195.      program.
  196.  
  197.      You may freely use, copy, and distribute UNARJ.EXE, provided that no
  198.      fee is charged for such use, copying or distribution.

  200.      This source code is intended to promote the building of utilities to
  201.      support the use of ARJ and ARJ archives.

  203.  
  204.      ARJ-SECURITY ENVELOPE USE:
  205.  
  206.      This feature is intended for but not limited to software developers
  207.      who wish to distribute archived software with some assurance that the
  208.      archived software in a validated ARJ-SECURED archive will be secure.
  209.      We reserve the right to limit the distribution of ARJ-SECURITY serial
  210.      codes.

  212.      This feature may ONLY be used by those who have purchased an
  213.      ARJ-SECURITY serial number.

  264.      LICENSEE's organization, and is not transferable.  You are not
  265.      obtaining title to the software or any copyright rights.  This license
  266.      allows the internal use and copying of the software by LICENSEE on as
  267.      many computers as contracted for.  You may make as many copies of this
  268.      software as you need for backup purposes.  Distribution, repackaging,
  269.      or reselling of the software including ARJSFX, ARJSFXV, and ARJSFXJR
  270.      archives to third parties is not allowed under this agreement.

  272.      The LICENSOR warrants that it is sole owner of the software and has
  273.      full power and authority to grant this license herein without consent
