About Itty-Bitty Black Book/2
===== ========== ===== ======
Itty-Bitty Black Book/2 is a personal information manager which may be used
to store and manipulate the names, address, phone numbers, and other pertinent
information about groups of individuals. It is capable of storing up to five
different groups of people in each phone book. These groups could be business
contacts, friends, relatives, Christmas card lists, etc, they are determined
solely by you. It is also capable of dialing the phone, printing mailing
labels, printing a cardfile, and printing a personal address book to take with
you when a computer is unavailable.
Warranty
========
Itty-Bitty Black Book/2 is provided "as is" without any warranties (or
conditions), expressed or implied with respect to the software, including the
implied warranties (or conditions) of merchantability and fitness for a
particular purpose. The entire risk arising out of use or performance of the
program remains with you. In no event will the copyright holder be liable for
any lost profits, lost savings, incidental or indirect damages or other
economic consequential damages, even if I have been advised of the possibility
of such damages. In addition, I will not be liable for any damages claimed by
you based on any third party claim.
Shareware
=========
Shareware is the try it before you buy it concept of software marketing. It is
freely available by downloading it from various BBS's or one can easily and
legally give a copy to a friend. If you like the software and intend on
continuing to use it after the trial period of typically 30 - 45 days, you are
expected to register the software with the author. Shareware is not freeware.
It's continued use implies that it is a viable and needed tool. Registration
encourages the author to enhance the software's features, making it a better
tool for you the user, and also to create new software in the future.
Registration
============
Upon registration you will receive a license to use the latest version of the
Itty-Bitty Black Book/2 software personalized with your registation
information which consists of a registration "key" which is valid for all
future releases. From that point on you may download newer versions from your
favorite BBS as they are released without re-registering as you will have a
valid key and the right to use that version.
Registation is (only) $15.
Please make checks payable to:

Changes since Version 1.0
=========================
10 May 93 Adds (1) Registration information
Version 1.01 (2) Allows double clicking from main screen to pull up
modify screen
31 May 93 Adds (1) Sort order modification
Version 1.10 (2) Exporting to both comma-delimited files and in columns
(3) Dialing initialization & prefix strings
(4) Main window sizing (remembers last setting from
shutdown)
Changes / Bug-fixes
(1) Dialing is no longer timer-based
5 Jun 93 Changes / Bug-fixes
Version 1.11 (1) Adds an option for adding additional <CR> for some
printers
6 Jun 93 Changes / Bug-fixes
Version 1.12 (1) If you select 0 column width when exporting in columns,
then the computer will determine the optimum width for
that particular field
(2) Commas within a field being exported in "Export Comma
Delimitted" are converted to semicolumns so as to not
screw up the field order
(3) Numeric data-entry fields converted to spin-button
controls (found in Import, Export, and Setup Printing)
14 Jun 93 Adds (1) Several new print options
Version 1.13 Changes / Bug-fixes
(1) The name was changed to Little Black Book/2. This was
necessary due to a title conflict with a DOS-based PIM
offering somewhat similar features. Now there should
be less confusion.
30 Sep 93 Adds (1) Three additional fields within the database were added,
Version 1.20 2-line street addresses, work phone number extensions,
and email addresses. An upgrade routine is provided in
the file UPGRADE.EXE which must be run before this
version of the software is ran, it converts the
previous style of database to the current one.
(2) The ability to print index cards was added, these cards
are extremely flexible and should acommidate and need
(assuming the database has all of the necessary
information). The only downside is that by being so
flexible it can be slightly difficult to use, but once
it is set up after 10 minutes of effort on your part
to meet your exact needs, it can save enormous amounts
of time.
(3) An address book can now be printed on paper with
similar features and caveats as the index cards above.
(4) Registration is now done entirely through software,
previously you would send me the registration fee and I
would mail you a floppy of the latest version of the
software. I learned however, that with only a $10
registration fee this was not very profitable.
Instead of raising the registration, I lowered my
costs. Now, upon registration you will receive a letter
containing the registration info which you would can
type in under setup and "self-register", it is also
your license for future versions. If you desire a
floppy, the fee is $15 total which includes the
license. Once you are registered, the pull-down for
registration will be grayed-out and no longer available
as it is no longer needed. Likewise, the Telephone
Support option will become available to you under Help,
and the application exit messages will go away.
(5) Telephone Support is now available as an option under
Help, this is available only to registered users.
(6) Application exit messages have been added as an
"encouragement" for unregistered users to register.
Registered users will never see this feature.
(7) When dialing a work phone number you will be told after
dialing if there is an extension to be used (and what
it is). This software does not dial the number due to
the lack of standardization in which extensions are
used, it just tells you what is and lets you deal with
it.
Changes / Bug-fixes
(1) There was a problem with saving a record which was
missing either the first or last name, this has been
fixed.
(2) Dialing now requires you to explicitly state whether
you wish to dial the home or work phone number, this
should make dialing less confusing.
(3) The Setup Display feature has been enhanced.
Previously, it merely allowed you to click fields on
and off to determine what what was displayed, now it
allows you to determine the order they are displayed
in.
15 Nov 93 Adds (1) The City/State/Zip trio is now coordinated during both
Version 1.21 data entry and data modification. Now if a Zip code has
been previously used you can have the software look up
the matching City/State for that Zip code.
(2) DTR & RTS are now forced high during dialing, this
"should" make it easier to use the dialing function for
those who use their modem for other things.
(3) Dialing is now fully multi-threaded.
Changes / Bug-fixes
(1) The Comment field now has a maximum of 256 characters,
previously it was only 32.
(2) The Email-Address field now has a maximum of 64
characters, previously it was only 32.
(3) A bug in printing mailing labels was corrected, version
1.20 introduced a problem with counting lines and thus
it made mistakes when trying to print labels (either to
short or to long).
(4) Mailing label printing used to leave blank lines if the
fields were blank, now the blank fields are
"collapsed", and the blank lines are no more.
(5) There is now an option to allow the user to determine
the number of blank lines between entries in the
address book when it is printed.
(6) Names of specific fields can now be printed (as an
option) in both the address book and address cards.
(7) The State will follow the City similar to the Last Name
following the First Name in both the address book and
cards.
(8) Long comments will now autowrap in both the address
book and cards.
18 Dec 93 Adds (1) Multimedia Aware feature have been added. Little Black
Version 1.22 Book/2 is now capable of displaying pictures and sound
with the assistance of other programs.
27 Dec 93 Changes / Bug-fixes
Version 1.23 (1) Fixed a FATAL error introduced by 1.22. It seems that
I introduced a bug that caused the software to crash
when adding a record if no previous record existed in
the database in version 1.22. This has been fixed.
24 Sep 94 Adds (1) Envelope printing has been added.
Version 1.24 (2) Icon Bar containing buttons for most commonly used
features.
(3) Simplified Registration form is now available as a
SETUP option.
(4) Three different display font sizes are now available.
Changes / Bug-fixes
(1) Eliminates the 64K limit in the main display window,
the window is now [believed to be] totally virtual,
meaning that the address book will now hold MANY names.
(2) The name of the software is now "Itty-Bitty Black
Book/2", it was changed due a trademark problem with
the previous name.
(3) Printing options were simplified. Previously you had to
specify a different option depending on whether the
output device were a dot-matrix/ink-jet or laser
printer. This has been eliminated, printing [should]
now work equally well on all printers.
(4) Previously if you closed the application (A) minimized,
(B) maximized, (C) off-screen you had a serious
problem. This is no longer a problem, these conditions
are detected during program initialization and default
sizing and location are used (center of the screen,
fairly small).
5 Feb 95 Adds (1) File associations are now possible. What this means is
Version 1.25 that you may have multiple "Itty-Bitty Black Book/2
database files on you desktop or in a folder which can
be opened up simply by clicking on them. To do this,
open up the SETTINGS tab on your Itty-Bitty Black
Book/2 object, and in the new name box type "*.IBB" and
click the ADD key. From this point on merely drag a
shadow of your database files (which should already
have the extension ".IBB") that you wish to open onto
your desktop or some folder and click on the object.
Changes / bug-fixes
(1) Dialing is snappier, the software SHOULD now respond
more quickly when told to dial the phone.
(2) When you select DIAL from the menu bar a more meaningful
message is displayed concerning work/home phone numbers.
(3) A dialing suffix has been added to assist people who use
certain PBX systems.
(4) When exporting databases, IBB/2 will now warn you before
over-writing existing files. Previously, the software
thought that if you wanted to over-write a file it'd
just let you, "user knows best" mentality... now it
operates under a "programmer knows best" mentality, this
should better assist in not deleting important data.
(5) Label and Envelope printing now both allow for reversing
the ZIP code for European addresses. This should assist
our friends over the pond use the software easier.
(6) Envelope printing now allow for printing envelopes
either vertically or horizontally, previously all
printers were believed to be loaded vertically.
(7) Colors on the background of the main dialog box are now
user selectable.
(8) The icon bar now has active assistance to tell you what
a particular icon does. Simply leave the mouse pointer
over top an icon for a short period of time without
moving it and a message will come to the title bar
describing that icon's function. This does not work
however if the text menu is on more than one line,
simply stretch the window from left to right so that
the text menu only occupies one line. This is a known
limitation.
(9) Multi-Media directory selection is now cleaner.
(10) THE KEYS FOR REGISTERED USERS HAS BEEN CHANGED. THE OLD
KEYS SHOULD CONTINUE TO WORK (the key word is should).
HOWEVER, SHOULD YOUR CURRENT KEY STOP WORKING PLEASE
CONTACT ME AND I WILL SEND YOU A NEW KEY (both
algorithms should always work... there are no plans to
discontinue older keys). THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT
THE OLDER KEYS ARE SLIGHTLY COMPLICATED AND CAUSE
PROBLEMS ON CERTAIN CPUs/OPERATING SYSTEM VARIATIONS
(affects approximately 5% of users). To alleviate
problems, a much simpler method is now used and
corrected keys are given to any registered user
identifying the fact that they have this problem.
6 Mar 95 Changes / bug-fixes
Version 1.26 (1) In version 1.24 & 1.25 if you moved the mouse left to
right within the drop down menu the potential to lock
up the computer was quite high. This is fixed.
(2) In version 1.25 some users discovered that the color
scheme selected did not work properly. Upon thorough
investigation I discovered that this is NOT a bug in
Itty-Bitty Black Book/2 but rather a symptom found in
many old video drivers. Updated video drivers usually
fix the problem.
1 Oct 95 Changes / bug-fixes
Version 1.27 (1) Envelope Printing now allows for a left margin offset.
What this does is allow printers that don't feed paper
from the far left to print envelopes once the setting
is properly adjusted.
(2) You can now select a record to view by highlighting
it and pressing the <ENTER> key. You may still
double-click with the left mouse button, select it
from the menu, or select it from the icon bar.
(3) Drop-down menus now work properly if selected from the
keyboard, previously they did not conform to CUA
guidelines unless selected by the pointer (mouse).
(4) You may now dial an entry by double-clicking with the
right mouse button.
(5) Importing previously could import blank records, this
should no longer be possible.
(6) Buttons to select between displayed group have been
added to the button bar.
(7) The configuration file is now saved in a different
format (more readable & less prone to errors).
PLEASE use IBB2_UPD on each of your configuration
files before starting the program. Otherwise, you
may lose configuration data.
9 Oct 95 Changes / bug-fixes
Version 1.28 (1) The SORT configuration items were not properly saved,
this has been fixed.
(2) HELP did not display properly, this has been fixed.
