  20. SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION
  21.  
  22. MultiView 2000 is a 32-bit terminal emulation suite which includes 
  23. everything you need to access UNIX systems from your desktop PC. 
  24. Designed for Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation (Version 4), it extends
  25. the boundaries of traditional terminal emulation by providing innovative 
  26. facilities to integrate web technologies into your existing UNIX
  27. applications, without requiring redevelopment.

  29. MultiView 2000 allows you to:
  30.  
  31. - Display your UNIX applications using the best terminal emulation.
  32. - Enhance your existing UNIX applications without redevelopment.
  33. - Integrate Web applications and documents into existing UNIX applications.
  34. - Define how your UNIX applications interact with Windows applications.
  35. - Share information between remote and PC applications using OLE2 and DDE
  36.   technology.
  37. - Simplify access to local and remote information via an intuitive user 
  38.   interface.
  39. - Integrate your local or remote file and printing resources.

  41. If your destination is UNIX, MultiView 2000 is the only 32-bit launch pad
  42. you'll require.

  45. SECTION 2 - LICENCE INFORMATION
  46.  
  47. If you have purchased MultiView 2000, a serial number will have been 
  48. supplied with the product. You are restricted by the license to only
  49. install the MultiView 2000 software on one PC for each license you
  50. have purchased. If you are evaluating the software, you may install on as
  51. many PCs as you wish. The evaluation period will expire 30 days after
  52. installation.

  54. This product is under exciting new development. To ensure you are kept up

  67. 3.1 Upgrading Previous Versions of MultiView 2000
  68.  
  69. All previous version of MultiView 2000 can be safely upgraded. With the 
  70. following exceptions.
  71.  
  72. - LPR Printer Ports
  73.  
  74.   If you are upgrading from MultiView 2000 v 1, and you also have a 
  75.   version of MultiView DeskTop installed, you may find your existing LPR 
  76.   Ports no longer work. To resolve the problem please re-install your 
  77.   ports following the On-line documentation.

  79. 3.2 Upgrading Active Rules
  80.  
  81. In this version of MultiView 2000, the Rules Agent has been enhanced to 
  82. include other types of Active Rules. Consequently, your previous system
  83. wide Active URL's will be upgraded. After setup has restarted your
  84. system following an upgrade you will be asked to either convert the
  85. detected rules from the registry, create a new set of system wide rules
  86. or leave the upgrade until a later date. For further information please
  87. see the pin-point help within the upgrade dialog.

  91. You can remove MultiView 2000 by selecting Add/Remove from the Windows 
  92. Control Panel.

  111. Version 3 now includes alternative line drawing sets, to improve the visual 
  112. impact of character menus and to extend line drawing functionality to fonts 
  113. without line drawing characters.

  115. 4.2 Enhanced Attribute Mapping Effects
  116.  
  117. The ability to define character attributes such as bold, reverse and 
  118. underline, has been dramatically improved. Each attribute including colors 
  119. can now be given a wide range of effects and styles, these include, 
  120. three-dimensional fonts, Windows-like buttons and edit fields, colored 
  121. background, etc.

  123. 4.3 Patterned Border
  124.  
  125. Any bitmap image (.bmp) can be selected for use around the TE window.
  126.  
  127. 4.4 Browser Embeddable using ActiveX
  128.  
  129. Using ActiveX technology, the MultiView 2000 terminal emulator and FTP 
  130. applications can easily be embedded into MicrosoftÆs Internet Explorer or 
  131. any other ActiveX document container.

  133. 4.5 Advanced Active Rules
  134.  
  135. Keywords, such as URL (http, ftp, gopher,), application links (doc, xls,) 
  136. can be set up as hot spots that will launch a web browser or other 
  137. application. Active Rules have been extended to allow key sequences to 
  138. be sent to the UNIX host and to execute remote applications at the click 
  139. of a button.

  141. Similarly, with the same technology, input fields and any other logical 
  142. function areas in the UNIX application can be defined as a live hot spot 
  143. with visual effects.
  144.  
  145. 4.6 Brightness & Contrast Controls
  146.  
  147. New interactive color intensity sliders give the ability to customize 
  148. the overall brightness of colors and fine-tune relative contrast between 
  149. bold and dim variants.
  150.  
  151. 4.7 Selection of any TrueType Font
  152.  
  153. A terminal session can now be configured to use any TrueType font installed
  154. on the Windows PC. You may also select different styles of a particular 
  155. font, Bold, Italic etc.

  157. 4.8 Kermit Serial Transfer
  158.  
  159. To allow serial file transfer the popular Kermit protocol has been added in
  160. the 2000 TE.
  161.  
  162. 4.9 Ansi Keyboard Lock
  163.  
  164. The codes CSI2h and CSI2l have been included in the SCO Ansi emulation
  165. to give the ability to lock and unlock the keyboard.
  166.  
  167. 4.10 ISO Latin I and II
  168.  
  169. The ISO Latin I and II code pages have been implemented for use with the 
  170. DEC VT220/VT320 and SCO Ansi emulationÆs.

  173. SECTION 5 - PROBLEMS FIXED AT THIS RELEASE
  174.  
  175. 5.1 VT220 F12 wasn't defined by default
  176. 5.2 TE Wizard didn't default to protocol selected during installation
  177. 5.3 FTP Time-out increased from 2 to 5 seconds
  178. 5.4 VT320 Shift/F6 to Shift/F10 on US Keyboard
  179. 5.5 Telnet packet received size different than expected
  180. 5.6 CSInE and CSInF implemented for DEV VT's
  181. 5.7 VT220 T/E the extended keypad mappings
  182. 5.8 Windows NT4 didn't remember where the last saved ZZ files were made

  194. 5.1 VT220 F12 wasn't defined by default

  196. F12 on the DEC VT220 keyboard was not defined by default. The key now sends
  197. the correct sequence, CSI24~.

  199. 5.2 TE Wizard didn't default to protocol selected during installation
  200.  
  201. During setup you are asked for your preferred protocol, this was not
  202. picked up by the TE Wizard.
  203.  
  204. 5.3 FTP Time-out increased from 2 to 5 seconds
  205.  
  206. If a connection to a remote site was slow, FTP would time out after 
  207. 2 seconds, this has now been increased to 5 seconds.

  209. 5.4 VT320 Shift/F6 to Shift/F10 on US Keyboard
  210.  
  211. Using a US keyboard, the map definition box was empty for Shift/F6 
  212. through to Shift/F10, although the view/list mappings showed the 
  213. correct defaults.

  215. 5.5 Telnet packet receive size different than expected
  216.  
  217. It is possible to configure your UNIX system to use different packet 
  218. sizes for the Telnet protocol, 2000 wasn't handling this.
  219.  
  220. 5.6 CSInE and CSInF implemented for DEV VT's
  221.  
  222. CSInE and CSInF have been implemented for the DEC te's. indicates the 
  223. number of lines down you wish to move the cursor from its current
  224. location.
  225.  
  226. 5.7 VT220 T/E the extended keypad mappings
  227.  
  228. Some of the extended keypad keys weren't sending the correct VT220
  229. sequences.
  230.  
  231. 5.8 Windows NT4 didn't remember where the last saved ZZ files were made
  232.  
  233. Windows NT4W now remembers the last location ZZ files were saved to.
  234.  
  235. 5.9 Saving a ZZT with a maximized TE
  236.  
  237. ZZT's now correctly restores a maximized TE if they have been saved as
  238. such.

  240. 5.10 Wyse60 TE and Shift/Ctrl/F4 and Shift/Ctrl/F7
  241.  
  242. Shift/Ctrl/F4 and Shift/Ctrl/F7 now send the correct Wyse60 sequences.
  243. \0223 & \0226 respectively.

  245. 5.11 All Modem types now recognized
  246.  
  247. There was a problem introduced at version 2.2.6, whereby some modem types 
  248. were not picked up by MultiView 2000. The error message given
  249. stated, "There are no suitable modem devices installed on this computer."
  250.  
  251. 5.12 Default Wyse60 cursor keys were incorrect
  252.  
  253. The default cursor key sequences for the Wyse60 were set incorrectly.
  254.  
  255. 5.13 Selecting Cursor up on VT320 caused background menu color to be cleared
  256.  
  257. Selecting cursor up on a colored background menu caused the background 
  258. menu color to be cleared.
  259.  
  260. 5.14 VT220/320 in graphics mode did not allow keyboard input
  261.  
  262. If DEC VT220 or VT320 was placed into graphics mode, the MultiView 2000
  263. TE wouldn't accept any keyboard input.

  265. 5.15 VT320 status bar color
  266.  
  267. Switching from the main window to the status line when a background color
  268. was in use caused the status line to inherit the main windows background
  269. color.
  270.  
  271. 5.16 ESC preceding ESC sequence
  272.  
  273. If an ESC was received before an ESC sequence, 2000 would discard the two
  274. ESC's and output the rest of the sequence to the screen.

  276. 5.17 NVT2 now supported on Windows NTW4
  277.  
  278. The NVT2 protocol is now supported on Windows NTW4.

  281. SECTION 6 - KNOWN PROBLEMS AT THIS RELEASE

  291. 6.1 File Transfer and VAX systems
  292.  
  293. VAX systems are not supported by File Transfer at this release.
  294.  
  295. 6.2 File Transfer and /dev special files
  296.  
  297. The special files such as /dev/tty1a located in /dev on a remote system will 
  298. not be displayed by File Transfer.
  299.  
  300. 6.3 Attempting to connect to a machine that isn't available
  301.  
  302. If a connection is attempted to a system that isn't available, both
  303. FTP and the TE will take up to 1 minute to report that the system 
  304. can not be located.
  305.  
  306. 6.4 Multiple DDE links
  307.  
  308. Multiple DDE links to the same application are not supported at this release.
  309.  
  310. 6.5 Configuring Active Rules while embedded
  311.  
  312. Active rules can not be configured while the 2000 TE is embedded.
  313.  
  314. 6.6 "User Level" while embedded
  315.  
  316. If the "User Level" registry settting is set, it will be ignored by TE's
  317. that are embedded.
  318.  
  319. 6.7 Contrast Slider not available while embedded
  320.  
  321. The Contrast Slider toolbar is not available while embedded.

  324. SECTION 7 - THE KIOSK
  325.  
  326. The Kiosk is no longer installed as part of the MultiView 2000 setup.
  327. However it can be installed as a separate product from the MultiView Family
  328. CD.  
  329.  
  330. For issue's concerning The Kiosk please refer to KIOSK.TXT located in 
  331. the Kiosk directory on the MultiView Family CD.
