  130. When you install Money 99,  Money requires that you install Internet
  131. Explorer  4.01 SP1,  if it  is not  already on  your computer.  This
  132. requires up to 60 MB of disk space on the drive Windows is installed
  133. on. After installing Internet Explorer, you can choose the drive you
  134. want to install Money 99 onto.

  136. NOTE: If you already have  Internet Explorer 4.0 or 4.01, installing
  137. Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 will require less space.

  141. 2: Running Money 99 And Money 98 On The Same Computer

  143. Installing Money 99 on the same  computer as Money 98 prevents Money
  144. 98 from  working correctly. If you  want to go back  to your earlier
  145. version of Money, you should  uninstall Money 99 and reinstall Money
  146. 98 from the original disk(s).

  148. If you use Online Services in Money  98, you will need to go through
  149. Step  2: Investigate  Offerings in  the Online  Services area  again

  193. The file format used by Money 99 lets the Money team create powerful
  194. features  such as  the Advisor  FYI, the  Lifetime Planner,  and the
  195. Monthly Report (all available for  Financial Suite users). You might
  196. notice that  your converted Money  99 file is  bigger than your  old
  197. Money 95  or Money 97  file. It might  be slightly larger  than your
  198. Money 98 data file.
  199.  
  200. However, you'll find that Money's backup files are much smaller than
  201. your  regular file  -- so  if you  need to  take your  data file  to
  202. another computer, you'll want to use the File/Backup command.

  206. 7: Internet Connections Require WinSock-Compliant ISP
  207.  
  208. Money  99 allows  you to  make many  connections to  the Internet to
  209. gather information and advice about your finances. To connect to the
  210. Internet  you need  an Internet  Service Provider  (ISP) that  works
  211. directly with  the 32-bit WinSock included  with Windows 95, Windows
  212. 98, and Windows NT.
  213.  
  214. Most  full-service Internet  providers (those  not requiring  custom
  215. software to  access their service) will  support the 32-bit WinSock.
  216. If you have questions  about your Internet connection compatibility,
  217. ask your ISP if it supports the Windows 32-bit WinSock.
  218.  
  219. NOTE: If  your ISP is America  Online, make sure that  you are using
  220. America Online Version 3.0a for Windows 95 or a higher-released (not
  221. preview) version.

  225. 8: Restart Windows After Upgrading Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  226.  
  227. If  you  install  new  software  from  your  ISP, you should restart
  228. Windows before  attempting to make an  Internet connection in Money.
  229. Failure  to  restart  after  upgrading  your  ISP software may cause
  230. miscellaneous errors in Money 99.

  234. 9: Internet Explorer Security Settings
  235.  
  236. The following security settings are recommended when making Internet
  237. connections in Money.
  238.  
  239. 1. On the Money Tools menu, choose Connection Settings.
  240.  
  241. 2. In the Internet Explorer Properties dialog box, click Security.
  242.  
  243. 3. From the Zone drop-down, choose Internet Zone.
  244.  
  245. 4. From the buttons below, click High (most secure).
  246.  
  247. Note: IE 4.01 SP1 or later is required to run Money, but Money still
  248. allows you to use your default browser.

  252. 10: Internet Options May Cause Money 99 Areas To Wash Out

  254. If you modify your Internet Explorer Multimedia settings and clear
  255. the Show Pictures check box, several places in Money may appear
  256. washed out and the text may be unreadable. Follow these steps to
  257. resolve the problem:
  258.  
  259. 1. On the Tools menu, click Connection Settings.
  260.  
  261. 2. Click the Advanced tab.
  262.  
  263. 3. Scroll down until you see the Multimedia section.
  264.  
  265. 4. Check the Show Pictures box.
  266.

  269. 11: MSN Offers Two Free Hours Per Month to Money 99 Retail Users
  270.  
  271. The Microsoft Network (MSN) and Microsoft Money 99 have teamed up
  272. to provide you with two hours of Internet access per month. This
  273. should allow you to take full advantage of Money's Internet
  274. features at no charge.
  275.  
  276. To install MSN on Windows 95, follow these steps:
  277.  
  278. 1. Insert your Money 99 CD-ROM.
  279.  
  280. 2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.
  281.  
  282. 3. In the Run dialog box, enter D:\msn\setup.exe (where D is your
  283.    CD-ROM Drive).
  284.  
  285. 4. Click OK.
  286.  
  287. To install MSN on Windows 98, follow these steps:
  288.  
  289. 1. On the taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then
  290.    click Control Panel.
  291.  
  292. 2. In the Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
  293.  
  294. 3. In the Components list on the Windows Setup tab, check Online
  295.    Services, click OK, and then follow the instructions to complete
  296.    the installation.
  297.  
  298.    NOTE: You may be prompted to insert your Windows 98 CD-ROM.
  299.  
  300. After  the installation  is complete,  on the  taskbar, click Start,
  301. point to Run, point to Program  Files, point to Online Services, and
  302. click The Microsoft Network.
  303.  
  304. NOTE: If you  are running Windows 98, do not  install the version of
  305. MSN found  on the Money 99  CD-ROM, as this version  is not intended
  306. for Windows 98. Install the MSN  version available on the Windows 98
  307. CD-ROM.
  308.  
  309. This offer is for users of  the Windows 95 operating system or later
  310. and includes MSN client access  software only. You must additionally
  311. subscribe to MSN  to access the service. Offer  expires December 31,
  312. 1999.  Two  free  hours/month  is  available  through 12/31/99. Each
  313. additional hour  will be billed  at $2.50/hr (U.S).  After 12/31/99,
  314. customers will  be charged the then-current  rate for MSN's standard
  315. membership plan.  This offer is available  to new members of  MSN in
  316. the 50  United States and  the District of  Columbia only. A  credit
  317. card is required. MSN premium  charges, access charges (if access is
  318. purchased from a  provider other than MSN), local  phone and/or long
  319. distance toll charges may apply. Access availability may be affected
  320. by local market network activity and capacity.

  324. 12: Setting Up For Visa ePay On A New Computer
  325.  
  326. VISA ePay offered stand-alone bill payment for Money customers
  327. beginning in 1997. In 1998, VISA ePay stopped offering this service
  328. to new customers, but continues to support their current customers.
  329.  
  330. If you upgrade from a previous version of Money and use VISA ePay,
  331. Money allows you to continue this service. However, if you install
  332. Money on a new computer, or remove and reinstall Money on your
  333. original computer, you need to follow special configuration steps.
  334.  
  335. To set up VISA ePay, see the Resolving Manual Setup for Visa
  336. ePay.htm file stored in the Money\WebCache folder. To open this
  337. file, use the following steps:
  338.  
  339. 1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  340.  
  341. 2. In the Open box, type the following, including the quotation
  342.    marks:
  343.  
  344.       "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\Webcache\Resolving Manual
  345.       Setup for Visa Epay.htm"
  346.  
  347.    and click OK.
  348.  
  349.    NOTE: If you installed Money to a different location, you need to
  350.    alter the path accordingly.

  352. 3. This opens the file in your default browser.
  353.  
  354. 4. Follow the instructions to configure Money to work with VISA ePay.

  358. 13: Windows NT Error If You Remove Remote-Access Service
  359.  
  360. If you  are running Money 99  on a Windows NT  4.0 system and remove
  361. Remote  Access  Service  (RAS)  after  establishing  a  RAS Internet
  362. connection method, Money reports an error  if you attempt to make an
  363. Internet connection.
  364.  
  365. If you are running Dr. Watson  for Windows NT, Dr. Watson reports an
  366. application error in MSMONEY.exe at Address 0x00000000.
  367.  
  368. If you are not running Dr. Watson, Windows NT reports an Application
  369. Error that states:
  370.  
  371.    The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
  372.    The memory could not be "read".
  373.  
  374. Reinstall Remote Access Service to resolve this error. Refer to
  375. Windows Help for instructions on installing Remote Access Service
  376. on Windows NT.
  377.

  380. 14: Cannot Access Some Features On Windows NT With User Rights
  381.  
  382. When  you  Update  Internet  Information,  Investigate  Offerings in
  383. Online,  or access  other areas  that save  settings to  the Windows
  384. Registry, you may receive error messages unless you are logged on to
  385. Windows NT with  a User Name that has  Administrative rights to your
  386. machine. To have full access to  all of Money's features, you should
  387. run Money when logged on with Administrator rights.

  391. 15: Money 99 On Windows 98 Hangs If Modem Not Plugged In To Phone
  392.     Line
  393.  
  394. Money may hang in the Initializing and Contacting Server portion of
  395. the Call Progress dialog box. This occurs if you are using Windows
  396. 98 and try to make a direct modem connection in Money 99 while the
  397. modem is not connected to a phone line, You cannot use any other
  398. Windows 98 modem application.
  399.  
  400. The solution is to restart Windows, and make sure that the modem is
  401. plugged in to the phone line before attempting to make a direct
  402. modem connection.

  406. 16: Windows 98 Issues With U.S. Robotics ISDN Modem And Regular
  407.     Modem
  408.  
  409. If  you are  using Windows  98 and  have a  U.S. Robotics  128k ISDN
  410. adapter installed, Money  99 may hang or return  the following error
  411. message  when you  try to   connect to  your online  banking service
  412. provider:
  413.  
  414.    Money  could not  complete the  call due  to a  problem with your
  415.    modem installation.
  416.  
  417. For information on  how to troubleshoot this error,  please refer to
  418. the Microsoft  Knowledge Base article, "Money:  Online Banking Hangs
  419. with  U.S.  Robotics  ISDN   Adapter  Installed."  This  article  is

  425. 17: Disable Remote WinSock If You Dial Up Directly To The Internet
  426.  
  427. If you are establishing Dial-Up connections directly to the Internet
  428. (using an  Internet Service Provider  or Dial-Up connection  through
  429. MSN),  you need  to disable  Remote  WinSock.  You may  not need  to
  430. disable  Remote WinSock  if you  are dialing  into a  LAN or using a
  431. corporate Intranet. Consult your network administrator.

  433. 1. Click Start, Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
  434. 2. Click WinSock Proxy Client.
  435. 3. Clear the checkbox for "Enable WinSock Proxy Client."
  436.

  439. 18: Trouble With Online Services Using Internet Explorer 5.0
  440.  
  441. If you install Money 99 after  you've installed the final release of
  442. Internet Explorer  5.0, you might need  to download Microsoft Strong
  443. Encryption from the Money Web site  in order to use Online Services.
  444. Install this  fix ONLY if  you are using  Internet Explorer 5.0  and
  445. have received  an error message telling  you that you need  a higher
  446. level of data encryption.

  448. You can download the 128-bit Microsoft Strong Encryption from
  449. http://www.microsoft.com/money/security.

  453. 19: Printer Drivers
  454.  
  455. If you experience  problems printing in Money 99,  you should get an
  456. updated  driver from  the printer  manufacturer. This  is often  the
  457. first step in troubleshooting printing problems.

  461. 20: Continuous Feed Wallet Checks On Windows NT
  462.  
  463. If you are using continuous  feed (dot-matrix) checks on Windows NT,
  464. Money skips two checks after the  fourth check in a series. For this
  465. reason, wallet sized continuous feed  checks are not recommended for
  466. Windows NT users.
  467.  
  468. If  you must  use continuous  feed  wallet  checks on  a Windows  NT
  469. system, you should not print more than four checks at a time.
  470.

  473. 21: Printing Partial Sheets Of Checks On Sheet Feed Printers
  474.  
  475. Money defines a partial sheet of  checks as when you have removed at
  476. least one  of the checks  from a single  sheet prior to  loading the
  477. sheet  of checks  into the  printer. Money  prints partial sheets of
  478. checks in  landscape mode. (This  orientation is similar  to how you
  479. print an envelope.) Printing  partial sheets of checks (single-sheet
  480. style) is not supported by all  laser or inkjet-printers. Due to the
  481. feed mechanisms of some printers, it is difficult to align and print
  482. on partial sheets of checks.
  483.  
  484. The following printers  have been tested and shown  to have problems
  485. printing partial checks in Money:
  486.

  488.    Canon Bubble-Jet BJC 4550
  489.    Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-610
  490.    Epson Stylus 1520
  491.    Epson Stylus 800

  502. If your printer has difficulty feeding partial checks in landscape
  503. mode, you can order Laser Voucher checks that never have partial
  504. sheets. You can also print Laser Standard or Laser Wallet checks in
  505. batches of three.
  506.  
  507. Depending on the feed mechanism of the printer, the following method
  508. might work to feed partial check sheets:
  509.  
  510. 1. Load the partial sheet into the printer as if it were a full
  511.    sheet.
  512.    Push the sheet all the way into the tray.
  513.  
  514. 2. From the File menu, choose Print Checks.
  515.  
  516. 3. Verify that the number of checks to print equals the number of
  517.    checks remaining on your partial sheet. If the number of checks
  518.    to print is incorrect, follow these steps:
  519.  
  520.    a. Click Selected Checks.
  521.  
  522.    b. Select up to the number of checks remaining on the partial
  523.       sheet.
  524.  
  525.    c. Click OK.
  526.  
  527. 4. Make sure to enter the correct check number for the first check.
  528.  
  529. 5. In answer to the question "How many checks are on the first
  530.    page?", select Three. This causes Money to print in Portrait
  531.    orientation.
  532.  
  533.  
  534. NOTE: Harland, the provider of checks for Microsoft Money, offers a
  535. Laser Form Leader (order # FL-L ) that you can use to feed partial
  536. sheets of checks through a printer in portrait orientation.

  540. 22: Tour, Video, And Audio Help Requirements
  541.  
  542.  --You must have the Money 99 CD in your CD-ROM drive in order to
  543.    view any of Money's multimedia tours or videos.

  555.    speakers are turned on and the volume is set appropriately.

  559.    automatically when you install Money 99 and Internet Explorer.

  563.    If you need to reinstall Internet Explorer, run the IE4setup.exe
  564.    program from the IE folder on the Money CD-ROM.

  569.  --Your Internet Explorer security settings should be set to the
  570.    default of Medium, or lower to run the Tours for the first time.

  576. Video Codecs are used to play compressed files by decompressing them
  577. in memory. Adding a specific Codec lets you play files compressed in
  578. that file format. Money uses the Microsoft RLE Video Codec to
  579. display the tours and the Help videos.

  581. If the Microsoft Video Codec is not installed, use the following
  582. steps to install the Codec:
  583.  
  584. 1. In Control Panel, double-click Add New Hardware.
  585.  
  586. 2. For Windows 95, click Next, click No, and then click Next.
  587.    For Windows 98, click Next twice, then click No, and click Next
  588.    again.
  589.  
  590. 3. Click Sound, Video, And Game Controllers, and then click Next.
  591.  
  592. 4. Click Microsoft Video Codecs from the manufacturers list, then
  593.    select RLE.

  616. 16-color mode,  Money 99 was designed  to work in 256-color  mode or
  617. higher.

  619. The Money 99  multimedia tours and help videos  are designed to work
  620. in 256-color mode or higher. If  you run these in 16-color mode, the
  621. tours  and videos  may run  slowly  or  may be  illegible. For  this
  622. reason, it is  highly recommended that the tour  and videos never be
  623. run using this color setting.

  625. To check/change your color mode, follow these steps:
  626.  
  627. 1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click
  628.     Control Panel.
  629.  
  630. 2. Double-click Display.
  631.  
  632. 3. Click the Settings tab.

  634. 4. Check the Color Palette setting to see which mode your computer
  635.    is running in. If your video card supports 256 colors, you'll
  636.    see that option in the Color Palette drop-down menu.

  638. 5. Choose 256 Color from the list, and then click OK. Windows will
  639.    ask if you want to restart your computer so the change can take
  640.    effect.

  646. When  you review  the questions  asked by  the Personal Profile, the
  647. screen may jump  around if you try to  use the IntelliPoint software
  648. version 2.2 Universal Scrolling  feature. Money 99 includes built-in
  649. support  for  the  IntelliPoint  wheel.  Universal  scrolling is not
  650. required.  You can  disable  Universal  Scrolling when  using Money.
