Frequently Asked Questions about the Tide Stain Detective for Palm
Organizers
The following is for users of Palm Organizers, small handheld computers
manufactured by Palm Computing and/or using the Palm Operating
System. About the size of a large calculator, a Palm organizer stores
phone numbers, addresses, appointments, memos, and task lists. It
also allows the user to add other programs, like the Tide Stain
Detective.

1. How do I install the Stain Detective?
The file you download (detective.exe) is a self-extracting Zip file
(Mac users: Stuffit archive detective.sea). Save this file to a
location you can find easily. When you double-click on it, the file
will unpack four Stain Detective files into the folder where you saved
it: StainDetective.prc, tdsd_map.pdb, tdsd_text.pdb, and readme.txt.
Use the "install tool" software that came with your Palm Pilot to
install StainDetective.prc, tdsd_map.pdb, and tdsd_text.pdb.
IMPORTANT: You must install all three files. The Stain Detective will
not work if any of the files are missing.
2. What do I need to run the Stain Detective?
The Stain Detective for Palm Organizers will run on devices running
Palm OS (operating system) 3.0 and above. The Stain Detective will
not run on devices with Windows CE or the Psion Epoc operating system.
3. Which Palm Organizers does the Stain Detective
run on?
The Tide Stain Detective for Palm Organizers has been tested only on
Palm devices running Palm OS (operating system) 3.0 or higher. We will
test this application on older Palm devices and announce those
versions that are compatible with the Stain Detective application.
4. How does the Stain Detective work?
When fully installed, the Tide Stain Detective contains full
instructions and Help you can access right on your Palm organizer.
Simply tap the Tide Stain Detective icon, tap the Menu button, select
the Options menu, and select Help.
5. How do I beam the Stain Detective to others?
The normal beaming process will not transfer all files necessary for
the Stain Detective. To beam the Stain Detective to another Palm
organizer that supports IR beaming, follow these instructions:
1) From within the Stain Detective, tap the Menu button.
2) Select the Edit Menu.
3) Select Beam Stain Detective.
The sending and receiving Palm organizers will be prompted three
times, once for each file.
This special beaming application, included with the Stain Detective,
correctly beams the program and all necessary data files. It ensures
that the receiving Palm organizer gets all it needs to run the Stain
Detective.
6. Do I need to register the Stain Detective?
The Tide Stain Detective is freeware, but it will stop working after 7
days if you do not register it.
7. How do I register the Stain Detective?
The Stain Detective is freeware, but to keep it functioning, you need
to register. To do this, visit http://www.tide.com/palm/ and enter
the required information into the registration form. For "Sync Name,"
enter the exact name used by your Palm Organizer to identify you as
the user. You can find this name on the Stain Detective's
registration screen.
After you register, you will receive a registration code. Enter this
code into the registration box of the Tide Stain Detective on your
Palm Organizer. Your copy of the Stain Detective will then be
registered and will operate normally.
8. Where can I get technical support for the Stain Detective?
