You can change the properties of a chart's x and y axes in Quattro Pro.
In this section, you'll learn about
displaying and positioning axes labels
displaying and formatting gridlines
specifying scale properties
Displaying and positioning axes labels
Axes labels are generated automatically from the column labels in a data series. You can display or hide axes labels on a chart that has an x-axis and a y-axis, and you can specify the labels' positions. If the labels on an x-axis overlap, you can place them on multiple rows, or you can skip certain labels to make the information easier to read.
To display axis labels
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
3 Click the Labels tab.
4 Enable the Display labels check box.
Tip
You can alternate between axes by choosing them from the list box under the preview window.
To hide axis labels
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
3 Click the Labels tab.
4 Disable the Display labels check box.
Tip
You can alternate between axes by choosing them from the list box under the preview window.
To specify the position of x-axis labels
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes X-axis.
3 Click the Labels tab.
4 Enable one of the following options:
Axis labels on bottom
Axis labels on top
Axis labels on both sides
If you want to position the x-axis labels in reverse order, enable the Draw as descending axis check box.
To specify the position of y-axis labels
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click a y-axis.
3 Click the Labels tab.
4 Enable one of the following options:
Axis labels on the right
Axis labels on the left
Axis labels on both sides
If you want to position the y-axis labels in descending order, enable the Draw as descending axis check box.
To position x-axis labels on multiple rows
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes X-axis.
3 Click the Labels tab.
4 Type a number in the Display on box.
To skip x-axis labels
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes X-axis.
3 Click the Labels tab.
4 Type the number of labels to skip in the Skip box.
Tip
You can also skip labels by enabling the Automatically skip labels check box.
Displaying and formatting gridlines
You can display the major and minor gridlines of a chart that has an x-axis and a y-axis. Gridlines display behind the chart series and are extensions of the ticks on each axis that span the whole chart. Gridlines allow you to clearly see the value of each data point.
You can also change the border style of the gridlines and specify the border's width and color.
To display a major gridline
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
3 Click the Grids & ticks tab.
4 Enable the Show major gridline check box.
5 Open the Major gridline picker, and click one of the following:
Gridline (only)
Gridline with ticks
Inside tick (only)
Ouside tick (only)
Tick on both sides
None
If you want to display the grid on top of the series, enable the Grids on top check box.
To display a minor gridline
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
3 Click the Grids & ticks tab.
4 Enable the Show minor gridline check box.
5 Open the Minor gridline picker, and click one of the following:
Gridline (only)
Gridline with ticks
Inside tick (only)
Ouside tick (only)
Tick on both sides
None
If you want to display the grid on top of the series, enable the Grids on top check box.
To display a 3-D chart gridline
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
3 Click the Grids & ticks tab.
4 Enable the Show gridline check box.
You can also
Change the gridline color Open the Color picker, and click a color.
Change the gridline width Open the Width picker, and click a width.

Specifying scale properties
You can specify the scale type for a y-axis and the x-axis in a scatter chart by choosing either a linear or logarithmic scale.
When you create a chart, the scale values are automatically set based on the source data; however, you can specify custom values.
You can also restore the default scale values.
To specify the scale type
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
3 Click the Scale tab.
4 In the Scale type area, enable one of the following options:
Linear-sets the scale to linear, where the value of each major division is exactly the same
Logarithmic-sets the scale to logarithmic, where the value of each major division of the axis represents 10 times the value of the previous major division
5 Choose an option from the Scale values to list box.
Note
You can scale values only when the scale numeric format is set to currency or number. For information about setting the numeric format, see "Setting the numeric format for chart text."
To specify the scale values
1 Click a chart.
2 Click Chart Axes, and click an axis.
