PortaMail was developed to allow any PDA based on Windows CE 2.0 and later to exchange Email data between GroupWise 5.x 32Bit and the device. The software has not been tested with GroupWise 6, though there is no reason to believe that it would not work. Currently only the Mail portion has been implemented, though if there is enough interest in the software, Calendar, Tasklist, AddressBook may also be developed. The Mail configuration allows the user to select folders in GroupWise from which to take email, to place into the PDA Inbox. Email in the PDA Outbox will be sent via GroupWise. The software will also exchange attached file(s) using the File Synchronization included with ActiveSync. In order to synchronize attachments it is important that the File Synchronization tool is set to synchronize with default settings. When creating file(s) to attach to an email make sure that you create them in the root of the 'My Documents' folder on the device, with all attachments regardless of file extension must have unique names. It is also important that ActiveSync synchronizes the attached file to the Desktop PC before you run PortaMail. Any attachments in GroupWise will be transferred to the device by ActiveSync after PortaMail has completed the transfer. The Attachment on the PDA does not transfer attached to the device email item. The software will indicate that there is an attachment and add extra text into the Message section of the Email item indicating the desktop file name. This will allow you to identify the file type and open it within the appropriate device application. The Filter will also allow you to specify to download UnRead, Read or Both to the device as well as being able to specify the number of days.
P.S. Please note that ActiveSync must be connected to the device before you open PortaMail. Also be aware that the GroupWise session will be left open until you exit the application. If you work in an office environment then make sure that you exit the application before you leave your desk.
Warning!!! , The software will remove email from the device's Inbox, which is no longer in the GroupWise folder(s) that you select. Please be aware of this, the software mirrors the email which is in your selected folders in GroupWise.
