  15. What offers the BBS?
  16. ====================
  17. Software Updates may be obtained free of charge from our Bulletin Board Service.
  18. Additional there are offered a lot of information, i.g. about new products,
  19. press releases, product information, data sheeds and answers from our
  20. hotline to frequently asked questions for all our products.
  21. The BBS surface (menus) is available in german and english, all system 
  22. prompts are available in 8 languages.

  24. Requirements to contact the BBS?
  25. ================================
  26. All you need is a modem or ISDN board connected with your PC and the 
  27. phone net and a terminal software (is mostly contained in the delivery 
  28. package of the modem).
  29. The box is free of charge and no registration is needed.

  41.     Use a terminal program that also supports ISDN (i.e. TERMINAT),

  50. How to configure your modem?
  51. ============================
  52. Configure your modem as follows:
  53.   * 9600, 14400, 19200 or 28800 Baud (depending on modem)
  54.   * 8 data bits; 1 stop bit; no parity
  55.   * Terminal Emulation: ANSI.SYS (Emulatormodus ANSI.BBS)
  56.     also              : TTY
  57.   * File Transfer Protokol (communication between both modem)
  58.              Zmodem (that we recommanded)
  59.              Ymodem, Ymodem -G
  60.              Xmodem, Xmodem /1k, Xmodem /1k -G
  61.   * float control (communication between modem and PC):
  62.     Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS)
  63.     ATTENTION! NOT software handshaking (Xon/Xoff)!
  64.   * Compression (MNP5, V.42bis): OFF !!!

  66. Availability
  67. ============
  68.   Daily 24 h online, but daily 5.15 AM upto ca. 5.30 AM there are some
  69.   refresh works.

  71. Troubleshooting
  72. ===============
  73. Problems concerning the connection
  74. ----------------------------------
  75. P: You are using ISDN and you could not get a connection to our ISDN line.
  76. A: - Don't use the common ISDN software (Verzeichnis holen, Directory) but
  77.    use a terminal program that supports ISDN (i.e. shareware TERMINAT, 
  78.    available in the BBS).
  79.    - Load x.75 and configure for 38400 baud. Use Zmodem (8k).
  80.  
  81. P: You have a 2400 baud connection only, although your modem supports
  82.    higher speeds.
  83. A: - If the lines are very bad the modem will set the speed on lower level
  84.    automatically to get an error-free connection.
  85.    Please call again to get a better line or call later when phone net is
  86.    not so busy.
  87.  
  88. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) this connection is
  89.    lost.
  90. A: - Check the basics adjustments of your modem as described in the bulletin
  91.    'How to configure your modem?'.
  92.    - Deactivate compression: select a lower speed!!
  93.  
  94. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get AT commands
  95.    on your screen.
  96. A: - The called modem was just in initializing, please call again.
  97.  
  98. P: Immediately after getting a connect (connect xxx) you get undefined chars
  99.    on your screen.
  100. A: - Maybe these faults are caused by bad lines. Please call again to get a
  101.    better line or call later when phone net is not so busy.
  102.    - The chars appears like impulses? Please check whether there are any
  103.    impulse counter is connected with your phone line.
  104.  
  105. P: Special chars (e.g. menu frames, lines,..) are not displayed as such ones
  106.    but as characters or control chars.
  107. A: -The terminal emulation you have chosen in configuring your modem is wrong.
  108.    Select ANSI.BBS (see bulletin 'basis adjustings'). Note: ANSI.SYS has to
  109.    be loaded via CONFIG.SYS.
  110.    -For customers who use the Windows 3.1 tool TERMINAL.EXE: This software
  111.    offers no terminal emulation that shows all ansi sequeces correctly. To
  112.    work nevertheless with this program and our BBS please select
  113.    'DEC VT-100 (ANSI)'. Using this emulation the lines, frames,.. are dis-
  114.    played with characters - not correct but readable. So you can altthough
  115.    work with the menus.
  116.    If you want to have a really correct display you have to use another
  117.    terminal software.
  118.    - Win 95 & HyperTerminal: Select font 'Terminal'.
  119.    
  120. Possible problems concerning the download
  121. -----------------------------------------
  122. P: There is no succesful download: Sending file process will not be started.
  123.    ("No files to send").
  124. A: - You are in the wrong file area now and the file that you desire so cannot
  125.    be found in this file area. (e.g. you want to downlaod a Win 95 driver 
  126.    for MIRAGE but you are momentary in the area 'MIRAGE - OS/2 Drivers'). 
  127.    -> The current file area is displayed in the download menu, right, on the 
  128.    top!
  129.    Using 'B - List of files in the current area' you can check, whether the
  130.    desired file is available in this file area with the used name.
  131.    -You have not entered the right file name (error in entering).
  132.    -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you
  133.    have selected in your modem configuration.
  134.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  135.    Zmodem in the BBS!
  136.    -There are some modems that needs pressing the >PageDown< or >Bild ab<
  137.    key to start the file transfer. So press this key when you have entered >S<
  138.    for 'Start transfer...'.
  139.    IMPORTANT: Especially with 2400 modem you must be patient - the modems
  140.    need some time for initializing!
  141.    - Please check: Does the named destination directory exist? Is there
  142.    enough space? Do you have rights to write in this directory (network!).

  145. P: There is no succesful download: The sending process is cancelled.
  146. A: -The protocol that you entered doesn't agree with the protocol that you
  147.    have selected in your modem configuration.
  148.    If you had chosen e.g. Zmodem in YOUR terminal program you MUST also enter
  149.    Zmodem in the BBS!
  150.    - Select in YOUR modem software  Hardware Handshaking (RTS/CTS) as float
  151.    control protocol (communication between your modem and your PC)
  152.    Do NOT select software Float Control (Xon/Xoff)!
  153.    - Deactivate "Compressing data" (V42.bis), all files are already packed
  154.    files. Further compressing is not possible and there may occure problems
  155.    or time delays caused by the vain attempts to compress the files.
  156.    - check the speed modem - COM port: If you have the UART chip type
  157.    8250/16450 you can only use speeds upto 9600 bit/s. For HS modems you
  158.    better use the chip type 16550 - so are bit rates of 38400 and also 57600
  159.    bit/s possible! Use COMTEST (available in our BBS) to check your
  160.    COM port chip on COM 1 / COM 2.
