  6.  IF YOU HAVE 
  7. Installed OL600e software under Windows 3.1x, and then upgraded to
  8. Windows 95; YOU MUST (REPEAT) MUST REMOVE THE ORIGINAL OL600E WINDOWS
  9. 3.1x SOFTWARE BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW OL600e WINDOWS 95 SOFTWARE.
  10.  
  11.  IF YOU HAVE 
  12. A Windows 95 system that you want to install the New OL600e Windows 95
  13. Software then; SKIP TO THE SECTION TITLED "CREATING YOUR OL600e
  14. WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION DISK" AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

  17. !!!!INSTRUCTIONS BELOW WILL REMOVE ORIGINAL OL600E WINDOWS 3.1x !!!!
  18. !!!!SOFTWARE FROM YOUR WINDOWS 95 SYSTEM. !!!!
  19.  
  20. To remove the Original OL600e software
  21.  
  22. 1. Make sure the OL600e Operator Panel is closed:
  23. If the Operator Panel shows on the desktop or the task bar, maximize 
  24. the Operator Panel, then close it. Click Yes to verify that you want
  25. to close it.
  26.  
  27. 2. Remove the OL600 HIPER/W and Okidata OL600e printer icons:
  28. a.)    Open the Printers folder from Settings on the Start menu.
  29. b.)    Select both icons labeled OL600 HIPER/W and Okidata OL600e
  30.         (hold down the Ctrl key and click both icons).
  31. c.)    From the File menu, select Delete. Click Yes to verify that
  32.         you want to delete them.
  33.  
  34. 3. Make changes in the SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files:
  35. a.)    From the Start menu, open Run, type in "sysedit" and press
  36.         ENTER.
  37. b.)    Click on the SYSTEM.INI window.
  38. c.)    In the section marked "[boot]," look for a line that begins
  39.         "comm.drv=."
  40. d.)    Make sure that the line reads "comm.drv=comm.drv." Change the
  41.         line if necessary.
  42. e.)    In the section marked "[386Enh]," delete the line that reads
  43.         "device=okiport.386."
  44. f.)    From the File menu, select Save.
  45. g.)    Click on the WIN.INI window.
  46. h.)    In the section marked "[Windows]," delete the line that reads
  47.     "load=c:\OL600e\statmon.exe."
  48. i.)    Delete the following sections--delete each line from the title
  49.         in brackets to the blank line before the section title:
  50.     [HIPERW]
  51.     [okicomm]
  52.     [okimon]
  53.     [HIPER-W, LPTx] (where x is a port number)
  54.     [OL600e, LPTx] (where x is a port number)
  55. j.)    From the File menu, select Save.
  56. k.)    From the File menu, select Exit.
  57.  
  58. 4. Delete old files:
  59. a.)    Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, open the Windows System
  60.         folder.
  61. b.)    Delete the following files:
  62.     OKICOMM.DRV
  63.     OKIGDI.DRV
  64.     OKIPORT.386
  65.     OKIPORT.DLL
  66.     OL600E.DRV
  67.     RECOVERY.DLL
  68.     SM.DLL
  69.     SM.INI
  70.     SMLANG.DLL
  71.     STATMON.EXE
  72.     STATMON.HLP
  73.  
  74. 5. Remove the program folders on the Start menu:
  75. a.)    Move the cursor to the clock icon on the right side of the
  76.         task bar and click the right mouse button.
  77. b.)    Click on Properties.
  78. c.)    Click on Start menu Programs, then on Advanced.
  79. d.)    Highlight and delete the following programs:
  80.     HIPER/W Status Monitor
  81.     OKIDATA HIPER/W SETUP
  82. e.)    Close the menu.
  83.  
  84. 6. If you have upgraded from Windows for Workgroups:
  85. a.)    From the Start menu, open Run, type in "regedit" and press
  86.         ENTER.
  87. b.)    Under the Edit menu, click on Find. Type in "OKIPORT.VXD"
  88.         and press ENTER.
  89. c.)     Check whether OKIPORT.VXD appears as data in a "PortDriver"
  90.         entry. Press the F3 key to continue the search for all
  91.         occurrances, and check each one.
  92. d.)    If  "OKIPORT.VXD" does occur in a "PortDriver" entry, click
  93.         on PortDriver, change the value to LPT.VXD, click OK, then
  94.         exit regedit.
  95.  
  96. 7. Shut down your system and turn it off:
  97. a.)    From the Start menu, click on Shut Down.
  98. b.)    Select "Shut down the computer."
  99. c.)    When the display indicates that it is safe to do so, turn
  100.         the system off.
  101. d.)    Next follow the instructions below to create and install
  102.         your OL600e Windows 95 Software.

  105. CREATING YOUR OL600e WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION DISK
  106.  
  107. Before Installing the OL600e Software into Windows 95 a Driver
  108. Diskette must be created. To create an OL600e Windows 95 Driver
  109. Diskette you will need to follow the 2 steps listed below.
  110.  
  111. Step 1. Label a blank diskette with "OL600e Windows95 Software Support"
  112.     Please include the part number 33118901e1; please refer to this
  113.     part number when calling Okidata for technical support.
  114.     Insert the formatted 1.44MB or 1.2 MB diskette in the floppy
  115.     drive.
  116.  
  117. Step 2. Go to the TaskBar in Windows 95. From the TaskBar 
  118.     select "START" then select "RUN", in the dialog box displayed
  119.     TYPE the path information you recorded earlier,
  120.     followed by \MAKEDISK. Next type a space followed by the letter
  121.     of the floppy drive in which you inserted the blank disk.
  122.  
  123. For example:
  124. C:\Windows\TEMP\MAKEDISK A:
  125.  
  126. After entering the command shown above then select "OK".

  130.  INSTALLING THE OL600e WINDOWS 95 SOFTWARE
  131.  
  132. 1. If you have already connected and used the printer with the old
  133.    software:
  134. a.)    Open the Printers folder from Settings on the Start menu.
  135. b.)    Double-click on the Add Printer icon.
  136. c.)    Follow the instructions from the Add Printer Wizard. When
  137.         prompted to select a printer, click on "Have disk..."
  138. d.)    Click on Next, and continue to follow the installation
  139.         instructions.
  140.  
  141. 2. If you have a new printer that hasn't been connected yet:
  142. a.)    Shut down the computer and turn it off.
  143. b.)    Connect your printer according to the instructions in the
  144.         Printer Manual.
  145. c.)    Start your computer. You will be prompted with "New Hardware
  146.         has been found...".
  147. d.)    You will then be prompted to insert the "OKIDATA OL600e Driver
  148.         Disk 1", insert the disk and click on OK.
  149. e.)    If your load drive path is not set to your floppy drive you will
  150.     get a message that it cannot find HIPWEXT.DLL on the disk. In the
  151.     "copy files from" box, type in the appropriate drive letter and
  152.     click on OK.
  153. f.)    When prompted for the printer name, select 
  154.         "OL600e (OKIDATA 600 Mode)" and click on Finish.
  155. g.)    All necessary files will then be copied to your hard drive. 
  156.     Restart Windows to complete the installation.
