IF YOU HAVE Installed OL600e software under Windows 3.1x, and then upgraded to Windows 95; YOU MUST (REPEAT) MUST REMOVE THE ORIGINAL OL600E WINDOWS 3.1x SOFTWARE BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW OL600e WINDOWS 95 SOFTWARE. IF YOU HAVE A Windows 95 system that you want to install the New OL600e Windows 95 Software then; SKIP TO THE SECTION TITLED "CREATING YOUR OL600e WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION DISK" AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ !!!!INSTRUCTIONS BELOW WILL REMOVE ORIGINAL OL600E WINDOWS 3.1x !!!! !!!!SOFTWARE FROM YOUR WINDOWS 95 SYSTEM. !!!! To remove the Original OL600e software 1. Make sure the OL600e Operator Panel is closed: If the Operator Panel shows on the desktop or the task bar, maximize the Operator Panel, then close it. Click Yes to verify that you want to close it. 2. Remove the OL600 HIPER/W and Okidata OL600e printer icons: a.) Open the Printers folder from Settings on the Start menu. b.) Select both icons labeled OL600 HIPER/W and Okidata OL600e (hold down the Ctrl key and click both icons). c.) From the File menu, select Delete. Click Yes to verify that you want to delete them. 3. Make changes in the SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files: a.) From the Start menu, open Run, type in "sysedit" and press ENTER. b.) Click on the SYSTEM.INI window. c.) In the section marked "[boot]," look for a line that begins "comm.drv=." d.) Make sure that the line reads "comm.drv=comm.drv." Change the line if necessary. e.) In the section marked "[386Enh]," delete the line that reads "device=okiport.386." f.) From the File menu, select Save. g.) Click on the WIN.INI window. h.) In the section marked "[Windows]," delete the line that reads "load=c:\OL600e\statmon.exe." i.) Delete the following sections--delete each line from the title in brackets to the blank line before the section title: [HIPERW] [okicomm] [okimon] [HIPER-W, LPTx] (where x is a port number) [OL600e, LPTx] (where x is a port number) j.) From the File menu, select Save. k.) From the File menu, select Exit. 4. Delete old files: a.) Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, open the Windows System folder. b.) Delete the following files: OKICOMM.DRV OKIGDI.DRV OKIPORT.386 OKIPORT.DLL OL600E.DRV RECOVERY.DLL SM.DLL SM.INI SMLANG.DLL STATMON.EXE STATMON.HLP 5. Remove the program folders on the Start menu: a.) Move the cursor to the clock icon on the right side of the task bar and click the right mouse button. b.) Click on Properties. c.) Click on Start menu Programs, then on Advanced. d.) Highlight and delete the following programs: HIPER/W Status Monitor OKIDATA HIPER/W SETUP e.) Close the menu. 6. If you have upgraded from Windows for Workgroups: a.) From the Start menu, open Run, type in "regedit" and press ENTER. b.) Under the Edit menu, click on Find. Type in "OKIPORT.VXD" and press ENTER. c.) Check whether OKIPORT.VXD appears as data in a "PortDriver" entry. Press the F3 key to continue the search for all occurrances, and check each one. d.) If "OKIPORT.VXD" does occur in a "PortDriver" entry, click on PortDriver, change the value to LPT.VXD, click OK, then exit regedit. 7. Shut down your system and turn it off: a.) From the Start menu, click on Shut Down. b.) Select "Shut down the computer." c.) When the display indicates that it is safe to do so, turn the system off. d.) Next follow the instructions below to create and install your OL600e Windows 95 Software. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CREATING YOUR OL600e WINDOWS 95 INSTALLATION DISK Before Installing the OL600e Software into Windows 95 a Driver Diskette must be created. To create an OL600e Windows 95 Driver Diskette you will need to follow the 2 steps listed below. Step 1. Label a blank diskette with "OL600e Windows95 Software Support" Please include the part number 33118901e1; please refer to this part number when calling Okidata for technical support. Insert the formatted 1.44MB or 1.2 MB diskette in the floppy drive. Step 2. Go to the TaskBar in Windows 95. From the TaskBar select "START" then select "RUN", in the dialog box displayed TYPE the path information you recorded earlier, followed by \MAKEDISK. Next type a space followed by the letter of the floppy drive in which you inserted the blank disk. For example: C:\Windows\TEMP\MAKEDISK A: After entering the command shown above then select "OK". +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ INSTALLING THE OL600e WINDOWS 95 SOFTWARE 1. If you have already connected and used the printer with the old software: a.) Open the Printers folder from Settings on the Start menu. b.) Double-click on the Add Printer icon. c.) Follow the instructions from the Add Printer Wizard. When prompted to select a printer, click on "Have disk..." d.) Click on Next, and continue to follow the installation instructions. 2. If you have a new printer that hasn't been connected yet: a.) Shut down the computer and turn it off. b.) Connect your printer according to the instructions in the Printer Manual. c.) Start your computer. You will be prompted with "New Hardware has been found...". d.) You will then be prompted to insert the "OKIDATA OL600e Driver Disk 1", insert the disk and click on OK. e.) If your load drive path is not set to your floppy drive you will get a message that it cannot find HIPWEXT.DLL on the disk. In the "copy files from" box, type in the appropriate drive letter and click on OK. f.) When prompted for the printer name, select "OL600e (OKIDATA 600 Mode)" and click on Finish. g.) All necessary files will then be copied to your hard drive. Restart Windows to complete the installation.
