  6.    1. Corrected a few bugs including the following Windows 2000
  7.       compatibility issues:
  8.  
  9.       a) "New" command of Explorer context menu created zero length
  10.          archives, which cannot be opened by WinRAR;
  11.  
  12.       b) archiving a large number of files (more than 300-400)
  13.          using context menu did not work.

  16.    Version 2.70

  18.    1. Both compression and speed have been improved for RAR archives.
  19.       My thanks to Alexander Khoroshev, who, once again, provided
  20.       invaluable assistance to improve this new version.
  21.  
  22.    2. In previous versions it was necessary to have external archivers
  23.       to unpack CAB, ARJ and LZH files. These are now supported internally
  24.       by WinRAR, you no longer need to have other programs to extract
  25.       from these archives.
  26.  
  27.    3. Internal (extraction only) support has been added for TAR,
  28.       GZ, ACE and UUE archives.
  29.  
  30.    4. RAR and WinRAR are now able to store NTFS data streams.
  31.       It is especially important under Windows 2000, which uses
  32.       streams to keep some file dependent information such as
  33.       file descriptions.
  34.  
  35.       Use switch -os to enable the storing of streams from
  36.       the command line or set the option "Save file streams"
  37.       in the "Archive name and parameters" dialog.
  38.  
  39.       This feature is supported only for RAR archives.
  40.  
  41.    5. "Archive name and parameters" dialog has been split into four
  42.       sections: general options, advanced options, backup options
  43.       and archive comment. Now it is possible to set archive password
  44.       or comment directly from this dialog.
  45.  
  46.    6. You may save compression options to compression profiles
  47.       to quickly restore them later, so you may create profiles
  48.       for your typical archiving operations. Read the topic
  49.       "Compression profiles" in the "Configuration settings" chapter
  50.       for detailed information.
  51.  
  52.    7. RAR and WinRAR are now able to store NTFS file owner, group, access
  53.       control and audit information under Windows NT. Note: you need to
  54.       have the necessary privileges in order to use this facility.
  55.       Use switch -ow to enable the storing and extraction of this
  56.       information from the command line or set the option "Save security
  57.       data" in the "Archive name and parameters" dialog.
  58.  
  59.       This feature is supported for both RAR and ZIP archives.
  60.  
  61.    8. Large disk folders are now read significantly faster in WinRAR.
  62.  
  63.    9. Total progress bar is displayed when testing or extracting
  64.       from a single RAR archive (except volumes) or group of archives.
  65.  
  66.   10. New command line switches -to<time> and -tn<time> allow to
  67.       process files older or newer than specified time. This feature
  68.       is also available in the "Backup options" of the "Archive name
  69.       and parameters" dialog.

  71.   11. New switch -ibck allows to run WinRAR minimzed to tray, when
  72.       archiving or extracting files from the command line.
  73.  
  74.   12. Switch -rr and command RR are not limited to 8 recovery sectors.
  75.       Now the recovery record may contain up to 4096 sectors.

  77.       If the sectors number is not specified, the size of the recovery
  78.       information is about 1.2% of the total archive size, this usually
  79.       allows the recovery of up tp 0.7% of continuously damaged data 
  80.       of the total archive size.

  82.       Note that recovery records larger than 8 sectors cannot be used
  83.       by previous RAR versions.

  85.   13. "Convert to SFX" command is now supported also for ZIP archives
  86.       which are already in SFX format. This can be useful, if you wish
  87.       to replace a particular SFX module.

  89.   14. "Open archive" item is added to "Files" menu.

  91.   15. Folder time stamps are restored, when unpacking an archive
  92.       under Windows NT.

  94.   16. The default value of dictionary size is changed to 1024KB.

  96.   17. It is possible to specify the path to put a repaired archive
  97.       in WinRAR.

  99.   18. Console RAR now supports wildcards in the archive name
  100.       also in 'RR' command.

  109.    1. Both compression and speed have been improved for RAR archives.

  111.       which allowed me to achieve this.

  113.    2. Information for registered users:
  114.  
  115.       WinRAR and Rar for Linux versions 2.60 and above are registered
  116.       with a new, very secure, AV registration seal. The main advantage
  117.       of this new authenticity verification code is a significant
  118.       increase in the strength of the registration code and thus it's
  119.       use as a means of identification of the origin of a sealed archive. 
  120.  
  121.       Unfortunately this also means that the old registration keyfiles
  122.       will not operate with the latest versions of Rar-Linux and WinRAR
  123.       and thus all keyfiles must be changed. This is a cost-free process
  124.       to the registered user.
  125.  
  126.       Please read "Information for registered users of WinRAR 2.00 - 2.50"
  127.       in "License and registration information" section of WinRAR help
  128.       for detailed instructions on updating your keys.
  129.  
  130.    3. Item "Registration" is removed from "Options" menu.  In order to  
  131.       register you need to put your key file into the WinRAR folder. 
  132.  
  133.    4. Previous RAR versions were not able to handle single files and 
  134.       archives larger than 2 GB. This limitation does not exist any 
  135.       more for RAR archives.  The new limitation is slightly more than 
  136.       8,589,934,591 GB, that practically means "unlimited".  Note that 
  137.       Win-95/98 file systems cannot handle files larger than 4 GB, you 
  138.       need to use NTFS to work with such files. 
  139.  
  140.       This improvement is valid only for RAR archives, 4 GB limitation 
  141.       for ZIP archives is not changed. 
  142.  
  143.    5. Significantly increased speed of scanning for large numbers of 
  144.       files before archiving operations. Memory management also is 
  145.       optimized, so now it is possible to handle hundreds of thousands, 
  146.       or even millions of files.  WinRAR has been succesfully tested 
  147.       with over million files. 
  148.  
  149.    6. Console RAR shows the total percentage of processed data when 
  150.       archiving instead of the current file percentage as before. 
  151.  
  152.    7. The drive selection box is moved under toolbar buttons. You may drag 
  153.       it to the old position at the top right corner, if you wish. "Up" 
  154.       button is added before the disk selection box. 
  155.  
  156.    8. New options "Cascaded context menus" and "Icons in context menus" 
  157.       in "Integration settings" dialog. 
  158.  
  159.    9. Registration information is displayed in "About" dialog. 
  160.  
  161.   10. New switch -df - "Delete files after archiving". Command
  162.       "rar a -df" is equal to "rar m". 
  163.  
  164.   11. New switch -ag[format] - "Generate archive name using the
  165.       current date". Appends string "YYYYMMDDHHMMSS" or specified
  166.       by "format" parameter to an archive name when creating
  167.       an archive. Useful for daily backups. 
  168.  
  169.   12. New switch -as - "Synchronize archive contents". If this switch 
  170.       is used when archiving, those archived files which are not 
  171.       present in the list of the currently added files, will be deleted 
  172.       from the archive. It is convenient to use this switch in 
  173.       combination with -u (update) to synchronize the contents of an 
  174.       archive and an archiving directory. For example, after the 
  175.       command: 
  176.  
  177.       rar a -u -as backup sources\*.cpp
  178.  
  179.       the archive 'backup' will contain only *.cpp files from sources 
  180.       folder. It looks similar to creating a new archive, but with the 
  181.       one important exception - if no files are modified since a last 
  182.       backup, this operation is performed much faster than creation of 
  183.       new archive. 
  184.  
  185.   13. New update mode "Synchronize archive contents" in "Archive name 
  186.       and parameters" dialog of WinRAR allows to synchronize the 
  187.       contents of an archive and an archiving directory. This mode is 
  188.       GUI equivalent of "-u -as" switches. The result of this operation 
  189.       is equal to creation of a new archive, but it works much faster 
  190.       if no files are changed since the last update of an archive. 
  191.  
  192.   14. Archives UnpSFX.rar (uncompressed SFX modules), UnRARDLL.rar 
  193.       (unrar.dll library), UnrarSrc.rar (unrar sources) are removed 
  194.       from the distributive. You can download them separately from 
  195.       http://www.rarsoft.com.  This is to reduce size of the WinRAR
  196.       package.

  198.   15. New GUI SFX script commands:
  199.  
  200.       a) "Overwrite=2" - skip all existing files without overwriting; 
  201.  
  202.       b) Delete=<file> - delete the specified file in the destination 
  203.       folder. 
  204.  
  205.   16. Command "Convert to SFX" now can be applied to an existing SFX 
  206.       archives to replace one SFX module with another. 
  207.  
  208.   17. In the "Archive name and parameters" dialog manually entered 
  209.       values of the volume size now are stored in the history of the 
  210.       volume size field together with predefined values.

  212.   18. "Add" button added to the "Organize favorites" dialog.

  214.   19. "Clear log" command in "Options" menu deletes rar.log file.

  216.   20. Minor improvements in displaying of archived files list by 
  217.       WinRAR:

  219.       a) if a file is encrypted, its name is followed by 
  220.          an asterisk;

  222.       b) if a file is continued in next volume, its name

  225.       c) if a file is continued from a previous volume, its name
  226.          is followed by "<--";

  228.       c) if a file is continued both in a next and from a previous
  229.          volume, its name is followed by "<->".

  231.   21. "Sort by original order" and "Create new folder" items
  232.       in the file list context menu.
