Section 1 Installing the Support Pack
_________________________________________________________
1. Type 411SP1x.EXE to explode the Support Pack file. Explode the file on the
server's SYS: volume, on another server volume, or on a local client drive
using RCONSOLE to run the installation.
2. At the server prompt type "LOAD INSTALL".
3. Select "Product Options".
4. Select "View/Configure/Remove Install Products"
5. Write down the Currently Installed Products shown in the window. You will
need this information in a later step. Specifically, you need to note whether
NIAS 4.0 and/or MPR v3.1 are listed.
6. Press <Insert> to install the Support Pack.
7. Depending on where the Support Pack files are located, complete one of the
following steps:
A. From the local volume SYS: press <F3> and specify the path, including
the volume name (e.g., SYS:\411SP1).
B. From a different server on the network, press <F3> and specify the
full path including the server name (e.g., Server_Name\VOL1:\411SP1). This step
prompts for a login name and password for the other server.
C. From a local drive at a client using RCONSOLE press <F4>.
8. Press <Enter>
9. Mark the appropriate choice according to the server's current
configuration:
( ) 1.0 Support Pack for NetWare 4.11 + NIAS 4.0 or MPR 3.1
( ) 1.0 Support Pack for NetWare 4.11
10. Press <F10> to accept the marked file group(s) and continue.
11. At the Update MultiProtocol Router message, Press <Enter> to continue.
12. Select "Install Product"
13. Select the server you are installing the Support Pack update on and press
<Enter>.
14. Select "Yes" to start the MultiProtocol Router installation.
15. After the MultiProtocol Router file copy, press <Enter> to continue.
16. Press <Enter> to clear the "Remove Floppy" message and return to the
Product Install menu.
17. After the MultiProtocol Router update has completed successfully, select
"Exit" to continue the core OS update.
18. After the files finish copying, the Support Pack installation is complete.
19. In order for the updates to take effect, the server must be restarted. At
an appropriate time, warn/notify users of the server being shut down; when the
server is free, type "DOWN" at the server console, then type "RESTART SERVER".

Section 2 Notes for NetWare for OS/2, SMP & IPX/IP Gateway
_________________________________________________________
NetWare For OS/2:
The VNETWARE.SYS file is copied to the MISC directory. NetWare for OS/2 users
need to manually copy VNETWARE.SYS to the proper location on their OS/2 boot
drive. Check the load DEVICE=VNETWARE.SYS statement in the CONFIG.SYS file for
the correct location.
NetWare SMP:
The SMP.NLM file is copied to the MISC directory. SMP users need to manually
copy the SMP.NLM file to the server boot directory, usually C:\NWSERVER.
IPX/IP Gateway:
The TCPIP.NLM file is copied to the MISC directory. IPX/IP Gateway users need
to copy this TCPIP.NLM file to C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32 (or the directory where you
have installed your client). Also TCPIP.NLM to the
SYS:PUBLIC/CLIENT/DOSWIN32/IBM_6/TCPIP directory if the client has been
installed on the server.
NE3200.COM:
The NE3200.COM file is copied to the MISC directory. If you are installing a
NetWare v4.11 server across the network with a NE3200 network board in the
server, you need this updated driver to prevent the server install from
hanging.

Section 3 Installation Issues and Tips
_________________________________________________________
ISSUE 1
Error during the Product Installation for MPR: "PINSTALL-3.1-36 Product MPR is
currently installed on server <Server_Name> and cannot be over written by
product NetWare Multiprotocol Router 3.0 PTF"
Cause: The "1.0 Support Pack for NetWare 4.11" Support Pack option was chosen
when MPR 3.1 or NIAS 4.0 is installed on the server.
Solution: Exit from the MPR Product Installation; the Support Pack install
will continue and be completed. In order to properly update MPR 3.1, the
Support Pack must be reinstalled selecting the "1.0 Support Pack for NetWare
4.11 + NIAS 4.0 or MPR 3.1" option.
ISSUE 2
Error during the Product Installation for MPR: "PINSTALL-3.1-38 Product
NetWare Multiprotocol Router v3.1 has to be installed before NetWare
Multiprotocol Router v3.1 on server <Server_Name>. Please refer to the
documentation for details.
Cause: The "1.0 Support Pack for NetWare 4.11 + NIAS 4.0 or MPR 3.1" support
pack option was chosen and MPR 3.1 is not actually installed on the server.
This can be verified by checking the "View Installed Products" option in
INSTALL.NLM.
Solution: Exit from the MPR Product Installation; the Support Pack install
will continue and be completed. In order to properly update MPR 3.0, the
Support Pack must be reinstalled selecting the "1.0 Support Pack for NetWare
4.11" option.
ISSUE 3
When selecting the "Product Options" option in install, the screen to copy
files appears instead of the "Product Options" screen.
Cause: Typically this indicates that the server was NOT originally installed
by using INSTALL.BAT.
Solution: Copy the following files from the NetWare CD-ROM: NETMAIN.ILS,
NETMAIN.ICS, LANGFS.ILS to C:\NWSERVER.
ISSUE 4
When the Support Pack is installed, SERVER.EXE will be updated with the
current version of LOADER. Some customers have indicated that the modified
version of SERVER.EXE becomes corrupted and displays the following message:
LOADER-4.10-19: Error reading load file C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE. This corruption
has been linked to the DIE_HARD VIRUS.
Solution:
1-Scan the DOS boot drive of the file server, as well as any
locations that the patch kit may have been copied to. Novell has ensured that
the virus has not been encapsulated in the compressed downloadable patch kit.
2-Rename SERVER.OLD (or MSERVER.OLD) to SERVER.EXE (or MSERVER.EXE).
3-RUN LSWAP.EXE. USAGE: LSWAP [LoaderFilePath [ServerFilePath]]
Default LoaderFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE
Default ServerFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE
4-Run the newly modified SERVER.EXE (or MSERVER.EXE if running SFT III).
ISSUE 5
NetWare for OS/2
Problem: When the Support Pack is installed, it is possible to see the
following error:
File C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE (or LSWAP.EXE) cannot be opened.
Error: Error Code 87 (57hex) Install 4.11-235
Press <Enter> to continue
Solution: Manually copy the LOADER.EXE and LSWAP.EXE files to the boot
directory, usually C:\NWSERVER (the LOADER.EXE and LSWAP.EXE files are located
in the 411SP1\PK411 directory). At the OS/2 Window run the LSWAP.EXE file (this
only needs to be run once).
Type "LSWAP LOADER.EXE SERVER.EXE"
TIP 1
It is possible to create other directory structures to accommodate your needs.
This example illustrates how this concept works. If an NLM file needs to
updated on SYS:\SYSTEM, copy the *.NLM (or *.LAN) file to the \SYS\SYSTEM
directory. If a file needs to be updated in any other path (perhaps SYS:\ETC),
create a directory under \SYS and copy the file to \SYS\ETC.
TIP 2
Additional Information about the Support Pack installation:
1. The Support Pack files are copied to the server.
2. Product Installation for MPR 3.1 is loaded to update the 3.0
or 3.1MPR files.
3. LSWAP will automatically update SERVER.EXE with a new LOADER.EXE.
4. A record will be added to the Btrieve PRODUCTS.DAT file, in the Installed
Products, and the following will appear: "SPACK V1.0 Support Pack for NetWare
4.11 (10/96)".
Note: The Support Pack installation detects the current server configuration
and installs the appropriate files. If the server configuration is changed, you
will need to reinstall the Support Pack for the new configuration -- for
example, changing from SFT III to IntranetWare.
