  4. Section  1     Installing Patches on a Native NetWare Server.
  5. Section  2     Installing Patches on a NetWare of OS/2 Server.
  6. Section  3     Installing Patches on a NetWare SFT III Server.

  10.      Novell has provided an installation script to be used with INSTALL.NLM 
  11.      "Product Options".  However it is still possible to manually copy the 
  12.      patches to the DOS partition.. C:\NWSERVER
  13.  
  14.      This script file can be run in several ways:
  15.      1- From local A: Drive at Server.
  16.      2- From local Drive at Client using Rconsole (F4).
  17.      3- From local SYS: volume (F3), by specifying the path including 
  18.        volume name..ie SYS:\411PT1.
  19.      4- From a different server on the network (F3) by specifying
  20.        full path including server name..ie Server_Name\SYS:\411PT1.
  21.  
  22.      NOTE: Fastest installation in order of performance is: 
  23.      option 3, option 4, option 2, option 1.
  24.  
  25.      PK411 has the following enhancements:
  26.  
  27.           - "PATCHES" console command has been enhanced.
  28.         - Patches are display as two types: 
  29.             - PK Patches, 
  30.                 Patches embedded in PK411.NLM.
  31.             - Discrete Patches,
  32.                 Patches which are not embedded in PK411.NLM.
  33.                    - Patches are displayed alphabetically.
  34.                    - Total number of Patches are at the bottom of the list.

  76.      Note for NetFRAME customers:  
  77.      Because of NetFRAMEs' unique architecture "Product Options" Install 
  78.      can not copy the patches to the boot drive.  Use the following 
  79.      RCONSOLE method to copy the patches to the boot drive.
  80.           1) Unzip the patch file to any directory.
  81.           2) Run RCONSOLE and connect to the NetFRAME server that you 
  82.           want to update.
  83.           3) Use ALT-F1 to bring up the RCONSOLE Menu.
  84.           4) Select the "Transfer Files To Server" option.
  85.           5) For the Source path, enter the complete DOS path, 
  86.                for example f:\patch\native\start and press enter.
  87.           6) For the Destination path, enter C:  and press enter.
  88.      RCONSOLE should then copy all the files located in the source directory.  
  89.      After that completes add the following lines to the STARTUP.NCF:
  90.           LOAD PK411
  91.      Remove all other load statements for PM410.NLM and patches.
  92.

  95.      Note for AS400 customers:
  96.      Because of AS400's unique architecture "Product Options" Install 
  97.      can not copy the patches to the boot drive.  Use the following 
  98.      RCONSOLE method to copy the patches to the boot drive.
  99.           1) Unzip the patch file to any directory.
  100.           2) Run RCONSOLE and connect to the AS/400 server that you 
  101.           want to update.
  102.           3) Use ALT-F1 to bring up the RCONSOLE Menu.
  103.           4) Select the "Transfer Files To Server" option.
  104.           5) For the Source path, enter the complete DOS path, 
  105.                for example f:\patch\native\start and press enter.
  106.           6) For the Destination path, enter E:  and press enter.
  107.              NOTE: Drive E: is a READ-WRITE DRIVE, 
  108.                 Drive F: is a READ-ONLY DRIVE.
  109.      RCONSOLE should then copy all the files located in the source directory.  
  110.      After that completes add the following lines to the STARTUP.NCF:
  111.           LOAD PK411
  112.      Remove all other load statements for PM410.NLM and patches.
  113.      Do not remove the load statements for DIAG410.NLM, HIMOVE.NLM, and
  114.      QFPLDISK.DSK.

  118.      Issue: 
  119.  
  120.      When selecting "PRODUCT OPTIONS" option in install, Screen to copy file appears 
  121.      instead of the "PRODUCT OPTIONS" screen.

  164.      Some of these files are Language specific..

  166.      Generally this is a result of manually installing the server rather than
  167.      installing though INSTALL.BAT.
  168.

  171.      Issue:
  172.  
  173.      When the Patch kit is installed, SERVER.EXE will be updated with the 
  174.      current version of LOADER. Some customers have indicated that the 
  175.      modified version of SERVER.EXE becomes corrupt with the following 
  176.      message:
  177.      
  178.      LOADER-4.11-19: Error reading load file C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE.
  179.  
  180.      This corruption has been linked to the DIE_HARD VIRUS.
  181.  
  182.      Solution:
  183.  
  184.      1-Scan the DOS Boot drive of the file server, as well as any locations
  185.      where the patch kit may have been copied to.  Novell has ensured that
  186.      the virus has not been encapsulated in the compressed downloadable 
  187.      patch kit.  
  188.  
  189.      2-Rename SERVER.OLD or MSERVER.OLD to SERVER.EXE or MSERVER.EXE.
  190.      
  191.      3-RUN LSWAP.EXE 
  192.  
  193.      USAGE: LSWAP [LoaderFilePath [ServerFilePath]]
  194.  
  195.      Default LoaderFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\LOADER.EXE
  196.      Default ServerFilePath = C:\NWSERVER\SERVER.EXE
  197.      
  198.  
  199.      4-Run the newly modified SERVER.EXE or MSERVER.EXE if running SFTIII.

  202. Section  1     Installing Patches on a Native NetWare Server.

  205. IF INSTALLING ON A NATIVE NETWARE SERVER:
  206.  
  207.      To Copy files :
  208.           Explode the patch kit to a diskette 
  209.         (or see other install options at the top of this file).
  210.           Place diskette in "A:" drive at the Server.
  211.           Load "INSTALL.NLM",  
  212.           Select "PRODUCT OPTIONS"
  213.           Select "INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED"
  214.           Select "ENTER" (Copy from A:\)
  215.  
  216.           NOTE:  PI_ICMD.NLM will load and copy files from the A: drive using 
  217.          the *.IPS script.
  218.  
  219.           The following event will occur:
  220.                Patches will be copied
  221.                PK411 will be loaded
  222.                LSWAP will update SERVER.EXE.
  223.                A backup of The STARTUP.NCF file will made and then the
  224.                STARTUP.NCF will be updated..
  225.            A Record will be added to the btrieve Products.dat file.
  226.  
  227.      Some modules may NOT have loaded during this installation.  These modules
  228.      may be dependent on the version of PM410.NLM and also the version of LOADER.EXE. 
  229.  
  230.      To Complete the installation of this update, the server must be re-booted.

  233. Section  2     Installing Patches on a NetWare for OS/2 Server.
  234. ___________________________________________________________________________

  236. IF INSTALLING ON A NATIVE NETWARE  FOR OS/2 SERVER:
  237.      To Copy files :
  238.           Explode the patch kit to a diskette.
  239.           Place diskette in "A:" drive at the Server.
  240.           Load "INSTALL.NLM",  
  241.           Select "PRODUCT OPTIONS"
  242.           Select "INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED"
  243.           Select "ENTER" (Copy from A:\)
  244.  
  245.           NOTE:  PI_ICMD.NLM will load and copy files from the A: drive using 
  246.          the *.IPS script.
  247.  
  248.           The following event will occur:
  249.                Patches will be copied
  250.                PK411 will be loaded
  251.                A backup of The STARTUP.NCF file will made and then the
  252.                STARTUP.NCF will be updated..
  253.            
  254.        NOTE: A Record will be NOT added to the btrieve Products.dat file.

  267.      To Copy files :
  268.           Explode the patch kit to SYS:\411PT1
  269.           Load "INSTALL.NLM",  
  270.           Select "PRODUCT OPTIONS"
  271.           Select "INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED"
  272.           Select "F3" (TO specify a different path)
  273.           ENTER: "SYS:\411PT1"
  274.           PRESS  "ENTER"
  275.  
  276.           NOTE:  PI_ICMD.NLM will load and copy files from the SYS:\411PT1 
  277.       drive using the *.IPS script.
  278.  
  279.           The following event will occur:
  280.                Patches will be copied
  281.                PK411 will be loaded
  282.                A backup of The IOSTART.NCF and MSSTART.NCF files will be made 
  283.                and then the IOSTART.NCF and MSSTART.NCF will be updated..
  284.                LSWAP will update MSERVER.EXE.
  285.                A Record will be added to the btrieve Products.dat file.
  286.  
  287.      
  288.      To Complete the installation of this update, the server must be re-booted.
