  4. If you cannot install ESS-Code with the supplied "Setup" module, please use
  5. the following procedure to do so:
  6.  
  7. 2) Create a folder where you want to install ESS-Code.
  8.  
  9. 3) Extract ECDxxW95.ZIP (again) to the newly created folder.
  10.  
  11. 4) For each file that has an underscore ("_") as the last character of the
  12.    extension, change the underscore to one of the following values:
  13.  
  14.    ex_ = exe
  15.    hl_ = hlp
  16.    tx_ = txt
  17.    dl_ = dll
  18.    tx_ = txt
  19.    fl_ = flt
  20.    
  21. 5) Move (not copy) CTL3D32.DLL to your system folder, which is usually named
  22.    "c:\Windows\System".  For WindowsNT users, DO NOT PLACE THIS LIBRARY IN
  23.    YOUR SYSTEM32 FOLDER.  Instead, create a folder at the same level called
  24.    "SYSTEM" and move this library there.  If you place this library in your
  25.    SYSTEM32 folder, ESS-Code will not function correctly (and other
  26.    applications will also experience trouble).

  28.    If there is an existing copy of "CTL3D32.DLL", rename it to "CTL3D32.BAK"
  29.    and repeat this step.

  31.    If there is an existing copy of "CTL3D32.DLL" in your Windows folder,
  32.    which is usually named "c:\Windows", rename it to "CTL3D32.BAK".  You
  33.    must have only one copy of this file on your system, and it must reside
  34.    in your system folder.

  36. 6) ESS-Code is now installed on your computer.  This method of installation
  37.    does not allow you to automatically uninstall ESS-Code, but you could do
  38.    so manually by erasing the ESS-Code folder that you created in the first
  39.    step.

  41.    NOTE:  Do not remove CTL3D32.DLL!  It can be used by other applications,
  42.           and removing it may cause them to cease functioning.  The version
  43.           of CTL3D32.DLL is the most recently released version that will
  44.           work with Windows95/WindowsNT.  Only this version may be used with
  45.           ESS-Code.
