  2.  
  3. SITUATION:  Enemy forces purchased a small number of SAGGER 
  4. anti-armor missiles for use by insurgent forces.
  5. They are hiding these missiles within civilian camps.  
  6. These missiles will enable the insurgency to ambush both 
  7. civilian and government convoys at extended ranges.  These 
  8. attacks can undermine confidence in the host nation (HN) 
  9. government that we support.
  10.  
  11. ROE:  Rules of Engagement published 14MAR04 are in effect.
  12.  
  13. MISSION: ODA 572 attacks objectives NORTH and SOUTH, vicinity 
  14. YZ020403, NLT 17 0930Z NOV 04 to destroy SAGGER missile caches 
  15. in order to disrupt enemy combat operations within the area of 
  16. operations.

  18. ENEMY: Well-trained and well-equipped squad-sized element of 
  19. insurgents supported by foreign terrorists acting as advisors.    
  20.  
  21. TROOPS: Split Team ôAlphaö 574 and Resistance Fire Team
  22.  
  23. Terrain:  High-altitude mountain road twisting through heavily 
  24. forested rocky plains.  Adverse weather conditions (high winds 
  25. and fog) prevent air support.  Sparse vegetation and rocky 
  26. cliffs with snow covered ledges.

  29. FOREIGN INTERNAL DEFENSE
  30.  
  31. SITUATION:  ODA 572 is training local forces in the use of 
  32. SAGGER anti-armor missiles.  Due to the sensitive nature of 
  33. our relationship with the HN, this training is being 
  34. conducted at a clandestine location.  Local insurgents have 
  35. learned of this training and plan to attack our advisors 
  36. and destroy the equipment, in order to discredit the HN 
  37. government by revealing the extent of our military 
  38. cooperation.
