- #Multi Media Replication
- #Smart Label Printer Plus
- Printing a label is usually more trouble than it's worth.
- Enter Seiko. Their thermal printer is dedicated to the task.
- Quickly and quietly it prints a single label. It is thermal,
- so there is no ink to smudge - but the labels are expensive.
-
- To make it work, you need a spare serial port and a few square
- inches of desk space. You also need to install the Windows or
- the memory resident (8K) DOS software to drive the printer.
-
- The software is excellent. You can screen capture, edit, save
- and print any label you like. You even have a choice of fifty fonts.
-
- However, when it comes to address labels it has one major drawback:
- It is designed for the US market. The "one size fits all" labels
- measure 1" x 3.5". That is sufficient for the US, but not the UK.
-
- Here our addresses read more like directions for the postman (eg
- "Near Shipton-Under-Wychwood") and we need a full eight lines for
- a business address. Squeezing that onto a Seiko label cuts down
- the choice of fonts to two tiny offerings. They are barely legible.
