  14.     COMPRODINE, PART TWO
  15.      One of the nicest features of
  16.  JIFFY CARD ($15) its single-sheet
  17.  manual.  This includes pictures of
  18.  its 68 graphics along with a sample
  19.  of a card itself.  The rest of the
  20.  manual serves as a quick reference
  21.  sheet.  It's simple, direct, easy.
  22.  No 40-page tutorials; no heavy-duty
  23.  programming knowledge required.  All
  24.  you need is one drive, 32K, and a
  25.  printer: a neat, compact, delightful
  26.  piece of software that does exactly
  27.  what it's supposed to quickly and
  28.  well.
  29.      JC takes about a minute to load
  30.  from XB, but, once loaded, all
  31.  borders, large fonts, and small fonts
  32.  are awaiting your keypress.  There
  33.  are 8 prompts for you to follow
  34.  step-by-step with active keys listed
  35.  on screen at all times, so you are
  36.  gently guided through all your
  37.  creations.  You first set up a
  38.  location for your card-cover
  39.  graphics; then you type the title and
  40.  select a border by tapping the
  41.  spacebar to cycle through.  Next you
  42.  choose the ONE graphic to be placed
  43.  in those areas you designated in Step
  44.  One.  This same graphic may even be
  45.  overlapped in repetition.
  46.      Text is now entered.  Say what
  47.  you want to say.  Next do the same
  48.  for the inside of the card.  Then
  49.  choose one of 7 small fonts for the
  50.  front and again for the inside.  It's
  51.  fairly easy to toggle between the
  52.  different parts of the card to make
  53.  changes.  Finally, you may print the
  54.  card.  Before you do, though, you may
  55.  opt to SAVE it for posterity, as
  56.  previously made cards my be LOADed
  57.  quickly and modified easily.
  58.  Basically, that's it.
  59.     For TI owners who wonder how the
  60.  fun went out of computing, this is a
  61.  program to get it back.  In the three
  62.  weeks I've had JIFFY CARD, I've
  63.  already used it over a dozen times.
  64.     Now I wish I had spent a few more
  65.  dollars to buy the color version of
  66.  my NX1000 printer, because there is
  67.  also COLOR CARD ($25), the
  68.  mouth-watering color version of JC.
  69.  Both versions come with a template
  70.  for xeroxing or just cutting
  71.  exact-size envelopes for these cards.
  72.  A thoughtful touch, that.  CARDS 4ALL
  73.  OCCASIONS ($10) is an "as is" or
  74.  easily personalized collection of
  75.  spiffy cards for easy JC loading.
  76.     Once you've mastered JIFFY CARD,
  77.  you should find JIFFY FLYER ($10) or
  78.  COLOR FLYER ($20) a piece of cake.
  79.  The commands are very similar for the
  80.  making of an easy to read, easy to
  81.  create, eye-catching one-pager for
  82.  yard sales, announcements,
  83.  pronouncement, mini-posters,
  84.  whatever.  These programs also use
  85.  the same (CSGD) graphics which can be
  86.  imported from everywhere or purchased
  87.  in a maximum diskful (127 pictures)
  88.  for $10 (CSGD GRAPHICS).  A 50-file
  89.  collection of borders and fonts may
  90.  also be purchased for $10 (CARD/FLYER
  91.  GRAPHICS).  It's this sort of
  92.  companion support that makes these
  93.  inexpensive JIFFY programs even more
  94.  valuable. That's why so many people
  95.  are happy that COMPRODINE is also
  96.  distributing Great Lakes Software (at
  97.  an incredibly low $10 for each item):
  98.  JOYPAINT 99, PAL, CLIPART DISK (which
  99.  is a nice trio); CERTIFICATE 99,
  100.  COMPANIONs 1 && 2, GRAPHIC COMPANION
  101.  (which is a nice quartet).  JOYPAINT
  102.  is an excellent artist program,
  103.  particularly with the PAL.
  104.  CERTIFICATE 99 is, to date, the state
  105.  of the art certificate maker for the
  106.  TI.  The support material for both
  107.  programs make them extremely valuable
  108.  tools (toys) for any owner.
  109.      BANNERS 99 and EXTENDED BUSINESS
  110.  GRAPHS are the other two Great Lakes
  111.  products distributed by COMPRODINE.
  112.      However, they have many more of
  113.  their own products.  PICTURE IT ($10)
  114.  and PRINT IT && PLUS ($13) convert
  115.  instances to banners, to Funnelweb,
  116.  or to Extended BASIC for printing
  117.  through your Writer files; prints
  118.  incredibly professional disk
  119.  catalogs, titles, labels, with
  120.  excellent user-designed materials,
  121.  including sprites.
  122.      BINGO (just $5) not only lets you
  123.  play two screen boards but allows the
  124.  printing out of boards for everyone.
  125.  Good graphics and speech.  FORMSHOP
  126.  ($15) permits very flexible creation
  127.  of forms for business, hobby, or
  128.  personal use with the same ease as
  129.  the JIFFY programs.
  130.      If you've gone to a TI fair
  131.  recently and looked up at a gigantic
  132.  computer-made poster, it was done
  133.  with GIANT ARTIST POSTERS ($15) which
  134.  lets you takeanyTI-ARTIST screen,
  135.  whether acquired or created, and
  136.  print it out in sizes from 10 by 14
  137.  inches to 5 by 8 feet! For these
  138.  king-size jobbies I would recommend
  139.  printing it out just before you go to
  140.  bed and pull it off in the morning.
  141.  Although the program works very fast
  142.  (and easy), printing anything that
  143.  size takes a considerable time.
  144.      COMPRODINE also publishes a neat,
  145.  professional date-tracking electronic
  146.  calendar with lots of features.
  147.  Similar to SCHEDULE MANAGER (Asgard)
  148.  and REMIND ME (Genial), REMINDERS
  149.  helps you to organize your life in
  150.  positive, realistic ways.  A good buy
  151.  at just $10.
  152.      But the new gem of the COMPRODINE
  153.  treasure chest of software goodies is
  154.  ARTIST PRINT SHOP.  Written by Paul
  155.  Coleman in fast and comfortable c99,
  156.  this program uses TI-ARTIST graphics
  157.  and fonts without conversion.  So you
  158.  could draw from the thousands of
  159.  files already in user-group
  160.  libraries, hidden in BBS listings, or
  161.  ordered from commercial sources; or
  162.  you could create your own in
  163.  TI-ARTIST and use them directly.
  164.      Basically, the 3-disk package
  165.  ($25 - and an additional $10 for the
  166.  not-required [but recommended] BORDER
  167.  MAKER package) permits the creation
  168.  of very dramatic signs, letterheads,
  169.  banners, and flyers.
  170.      Follow the 18-page manual through
  171.  one full time, performing each of the
  172.  easy tasks, and you will be
  173.  immediately comfortable with all of
  174.  the sections, as they have a very
  175.  similar structure.  After a couple
  176.  creations the manual is no longer
  177.  necessary.  I used it only two days
  178.  before I gave an hour-long demo of
  179.  all its sections at the recent New
  180.  England Fayuh.  Most of you would
  181.  have only needed two hours, but I
  182.  tend to play with things for a while
  183.  BEFORE using the manuals.  My sisters
  184.  Sonia and Pat both claim I was
  185.  dropped on my head numerous times as
  186.  a baby.  In any event APS is an
  187.  easy-to-use even for me type of
  188.  program.  And varied and useful and
  189.  fun.
  190.      The BANNERS section of this large
  191.  piece of electronic wizardry is one
  192.  of the most flexible I have ever
  193.  used.  It provides both text and
  194.  graphic options rarely seen on most
  195.  banner programs.
  196.      The SIGNMAKER makes very dramatic
  197.  signs, flyers, pages using a large
  198.  and a small ARTIST font and 5
  199.  different graphics which can be
  200.  mirrored, magnified, and/or
  201.  multiplied for all kinds of flexible
  202.  creations.
  203.      The STATIONERY portion also
  204.  offers some great flexibility with
  205.  some exceptional results.
  206.      In short, ARTIST PRINT SHOP would
  207.  be a nice addition to your
  208.  collection of super TI programs.
  209.      Your best bet would be to write
  210.  COMPRODINE for a catalog (or order
  211.  any of the above adding $1.50 S&&H
  212.  for one item or $3.00 for two or
