- SUBJECT : Retaining Local Paths
- DATE : 5/8/90
- FYI # : 050890ge
- OS VERSION : 286 and 386
-
-
- GENERAL INFORMATION :
-
- PROBLEM : How do you retain a user's local paths when mapping
- search drives?
-
- SOLUTION : There are two ways of mapping drives without
- overwriting local paths.
-
- MAP S16:=[path]
-
- or
-
- MAP INSert S1:=[path]
-
- MAP S16: will append the search drive to the path using
- the next available drive letter. MAP INS S1: will
- insert the search drive into the path at the first
- location using the next available drive letter.
-
- COMMENTS (Optional) : There is one exception to this process. If you are
- using DOS 4.X with 286 NetWare then using either MAP
- S16: or MAP INS S1: will still overwrite your path. A
- possible work-around is to use the 386 MAP utility on
- your 286 network.
