  11.                                     SECTION I
  12.                    DESCRIPTION OF PRESENTATION MANAGER DRIVER
  13.  
  14.         The  PM 800x600 16 color driver is compatible  with  PRESENTATION
  15.         MANAGER  Version  1.1 and 1.2. To use this driver,  a  compatible
  16.         monitor  capable of 800X600 resolution must be installed and  the
  17.         video  card configured for that monitor. Consult your manual  for
  18.         configuration instructions.
  19.  
  20.         After  correct  installation,  the  driver  will  at  boot   time
  21.         automatically detect the monitor and initialize itself correctly.

  25.                             INSTALLATION OF PM DRIVER
  26.

  28.         IMPORTANT:
  29.  
  30.         Before  you start with the installation of the driver, make  sure
  31.         OS/2  and  Presentation  Manager  have  been  installed  and  are
  32.         functional.
  33.  
  34.         To  install the driver, first you have to either boot the  system
  35.         with  DOS  or disable the PRESENTATION MANAGER by  modifying  the
  36.         OS/2's  CONFIG.SYS  file.  (see  DISABLE  PRESENTATION   MANAGER)
  37.         Otherwise,  your DLL driver will not be copied  correctly.   Then
  38.         follow  the Automatic Installation or the Manual Installation  to
  39.         complete the installation process.

  42.                              AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION

  46.         Insert disk #4 into drive A: and type the following commands:
  47.  
  48.                 A: <enter>
  49.                 CD\OS2 <enter>
  50.                 PMINST<enter>
  51.  
  52.         The installation program will guide you through the  installation
  53.         of your system and copy the necessary files.
  54.  
  55.         After  the installation, reboot the system with OS/2.  Make  sure
  56.         that  the  adapter has been previously set up  for  your  monitor
  57.         using the VSETUP program which is on Disk #1.

  62.                                MANUAL INSTALLATION
  63.                                -------------------

  66.         The driver consists of two files:
  67.  
  68.                 PM11-54B.DLL
  69.                 PM11-54B.SYS
  70.  
  71.         These two files are contained in disk #4 under the directory OS2.
  72.         Installation involves copying the files on to your OS/2 boot disk
  73.         and modifying the CONFIG.SYS file. Follow these steps:

  76.                 1)  Copy PM11-54B.SYS file into C:\OS2 directory. EXAMPLE:
  77.  
  78.                       COPY A:\OS2\PM11-54B.SYS C:\OS2
  79.  
  80.                 2)  Using a DOS text editor, insert the following line into
  81.                     the  CONFIG.SYS  file in the root directory  of  your
  82.                     boot disk:
  83.  
  84.                        DEVICE=C:\OS2\PM11-54B.SYS
  85.  
  86.                 3)  Find the line beginning with LIBPATH in your CONFIG.SYS
  87.                     file.
  88.  
  89.                 4)  Replace the file DISPLAY.DLL in the first directory in
  90.                     LIBPATH  with PM11-54B.DLL file. You may want to
  91.                     rename  your DISPLAY.DLL file instead of  overwriting
  92.                     it.

  95.                 EXAMPLE:
  96.  
  97.                 Your CONFIG.SYS files contains the line:
  98.  
  99.                 LIBPATH = C:\OS2\DLL;C:\MYDLL;
  100.  
  101.                 and you find a file named DISPLAY.DLL in the C:\OS2\DLL
  102.                 directory.

  104.                 Type at the command prompt:

  106.                 COPY A:\OS2\PM11-54B.DLL C:\OS2\DLL\DISPLAY.DLL

  112.                         DISABLE THE PRESENTATION MANAGER
  113.                         --------------------------------

  115.         We  recommend users to boot the system with DOS and  then  follow
  116.         the Automatic or Manual Installation to complete the installation
  117.         process.  However, if you cannot boot the system with DOS for any
  118.         reason, you can disable the PRESENTATION MANAGER by modifying the
  119.         CONFIG.SYS file as shown in the following steps.

  121.                 1)  Change the line
  122.  
  123.                   PROTSHELL=C:\OS2\PMSHELL.EXE C:\OS2\OS2.INI C:\OS2\CMD.EXE
  124.  
  125.                 to
  126.  
  127.                   PROTSHELL=C:\OS2\CMD.EXE
  128.  
  129.                 2)  Reboot the system.  Only the OS2 prompt [C:\] appears.

  131.                 3)  Follow the Automatic or Manual Installation to
  132.                     complete the setup procedure.

  134.                 4)  After completing the installation change the line
  135.  
  136.                   PROTSHELL=C:\OS2\CMD.EXE

  149.         If  your display in the graphics mode is not readable, your  card
  150.         may  need  to  be configured for your current  monitor  (use  the
  151.         VSETUP program supplied with this package).
