- For those of us running Win3 in enhanced mode, it would make more
- effective use of both Virtual Memory and the cache space if we could
- exclude the swap file from caching operations. Otherwise the potential
- exists for swapping to destroy the data locality in the cache, and we'd
- be better off without a cache at all at heavy swapping times.
-
- Possible? Feasible?

- Did you install SuperPrint after HyperDisk? What status does SuperPrint

- I just received my update to Microsoft C (6.00A) and was distressed to
- see that the latest version of CodeView does not seem to work with
- HyperDisk. If I disable HyperDisk before entering 'cv' everything works
- fine, but... I have to remember to do that. Any ideas what could be
- causing this? I am running on a Toshiba 5200/100. My parameters
- follow:
-
- Buffers in Cache : 180 Floppy Caching : ON
- Sectors/Buffer : 17 Disk Write Verify : OFF
- Idle Time Delay : 3:1:A Stage Hard Write : ON
- Media Check Time : 4 Stage Floppy Write : OFF

- CV has a bug, huh? Not surprising. I am using QEMM, but have access to
- a couple of other products. I have found that turning off the staged
- write feature solves the problem, but I have to remember to do it or I
- hang the computer. Not a good solution.
-
- Is there some kind of fix?

- I've been tryin Hyperdisk for a few days. I like it fairly well except
- that I have problems running TELIX under WINDOWS 3.0. Sometimes, it
- hangs the system and I am forced to cold boot my ZEOS 386SX. I have
- 4 meg of RAM, am using QEMM 5.11, used LOADHI on hyperdkx.exe in my
- config.sys file - it is the first device driver after QEMM, and run
- WINDOWS in enhanced mode. I tried to use the XS parameter instead of
- LOADHI to get hyperdisk into the XMS UMB but TELIX cannot work under
- such a configuration. The parameters for QEMM are RAM
- EXCLUDE=B000-B7FF. I am using MS-DOS 4.01, and set buffers=10/x.
- I haven't tried buffers=10 yet, but I don't think that is the problem.
- Can you or anyone enlighten me on my problem?
- I also set VirtualHDIrq=False in my SYSTEM.INI file.

- Hi,
- I am having a wierd problem with an Always-IN2000 running a Maxtor
- LXT213S drive. When I run this configuration with Hyperdisk, I get all
- sorts of transient read errors. Everything from Norton reporting cross-
- linked files, to Fastback not being able to complete a file comparison
- of the drive vs its backup. Get this, though - it is transitory! Trying
- the identical operation will often succeede; Fastback never mis-verifys
- the same file twice, etc. Slowing the drive down (using interleave=2)
- helps, but doesn't completely eliminate the problem.
- Any thoughts?

- I'm not sure disabling the Staged Write will always work. It just
- changes the odds greatly. I will try to get Microsoft to look at the
- problem.
-
- You can setup a batch file to disable HyperDisk when ever you use
- CodeView and then reenable it after exiting.
-
- CV.BAT:
- @echo off
- hyperdk /d /or ;disable hyperdisk and no report output
- cv %1 %2 %3 %4 %5
- hyperdk /e /or ; enable hyperdisk and no report

- Many people have problems running DOS communication application under
- Windoes 3.0. There is just to much interrupt latency under Win 3.0.
- Apparently COM programs designed for Windows work better but I have no
- experience with any and can not give you any advice.
-
- The buffers=10/x is definitely a problem. Microsoft has indicated that
- the /X options is not correctly implemented by DOS to be compatible with
- Win 3.0 enhanced mode. I'm sure it is a problem. Uses QEMM's high
- buffer support. With HyperDisk you should not need buffer greater that 7
- or 8, I allways use 5.

- I evaluated the IN-2000 here. I had lots of problems getting it to work
- stand-alone (No other software besides DOS). Several HyperDisk users are
- using the Always card and like it very much, but I can not get a
- working system. I have contacted Always Tech. and they are sending me
- a new card.
-
- HyperDisk has nothing to do with disk interleave factors, does any other
- cache software work correctly?
