- EQUIPMENT UPGRADES TO A PC - ECONOMICS 101

- There comes the day when the first computer needs MORE. Some attachments
- and their uses are:

- ==hard drive - speedy storage device similar to a floppy drive but
- larger and faster.

- ==display adapter circuit boards - allows different screen displays;
- color, high resultion black and white, monomochrome.

- ==memory expansion circuit boards - allow greater ram (memory)
- to be added to the computer.

- ==mouse - alternate input device (takes place of keyboard temporarily)
- which allows you to quicly move cursor and information around the
- screen.

- ==kekyboard - upgraded keyboard allow better "feel", better layout,
- more keys, better indicators and/or all of the above.

- ==modem - telephone adapter for information transfer

- ==monitor - viewing screen which can be upgraded to higher degrees
- of sharpness (resolution) and greater degrees and variety of
- color display presentation.

- ==printers - paper output from the computer. Three basic types: dot
- matrix (fast reasonable print quality made up from dots) daisy wheel
- (slower but higher "typewriter style" letters and characters) and
- laser (high resolution letters and characters, very fast, fairly
- expensive).

- ==surge protector - power control device which looks like a power
- plug in cord/adapter for the computer, but contains special circuits
- to prevent damage in case of power line surges.
