  1. Alice watched the rather large pink
  2. hippopotamus trot toward her.

  4. Rather rudely, the hippopotamus
  5. seemed to ignore the little girl,
  6. carrying on straight past her.
  7.  
  8. Alice coughed contemptuously.
  9.  
  10. At this, the hippopotamus paused
  11. for thought. He turned around and
  12. said in a tiny, squeaky voice,
  13. "Err, good day little girl".
  14.  
  15. "Why did you ignore me?" asked
  16. Alice in her impetuous voice
  17. reserved for ill-mannered animals.
  18.  
  19. "I really am most terribly sorry",
  20. replied the incredibly coloured
  21. creature. "You see, I am really an
  22. extremely shy animal. I didn't mean
  23. to offend you."

  25. Alice, noticing the yellow name
  26. badge on the hippo's lapel, spoke
  27. softly: "That's okay Hugh. I'm
  28. quite shy myself."
