  13. MISCELLANEOUS INSTALLATION PROBLEMS

  16. PROBLEM: SYS1200 error when attempting to Dual Boot to DOS with an error
  17. code indicating that the DOS environment cannot be created and
  18. you see an error code - EC=00BF.
  19.  
  20. RESOLUTION: Ensure that you have not removed or remarked out any of the
  21. VIRTUAL DOS device drivers.  If all else looks in order, rename your
  22. current CONFIG.SYS to CONFIG.XXX and copy your original CONFIG.SYS
  23. to the root directory. The original CONFIG.SYS can be found
  24. in the \OS2\INSTALL directory of the boot drive.

  27. PROBLEM: Installation on ZEOS notebook fails
  28.  
  29. RESOLUTION: Follow the following steps:
  30.  
  31. The fix for this problem assumes that you have access to a
  32. working copy of OS/2 2.0. Ask your local IBM dealer if they can
  33. provide an OS/2 2.0 machine for you to use for a few minutes, or
  34. ask a friend/co-worker with 2.0 installed. Bring your Installation
  35. diskette with you, along with a blank formatted high
  36. density 3.5 inch diskette.

  38. Step 1.  Open the OS/2 System object on the OS/2 Desktop by
  39.          double clicking with mouse button 1 (usually the left
  40.          mouse button)
  41.  
  42. Step 2.  Open the Command Prompts folder (by double clicking on
  43.          the folder object).
  44.  
  45. Step 3.  Double click on the OS/2 Window Object.
  46.  
  47. Step 4.  You should now be at an OS/2 Command Prompt.
  48.  
  49. Step 5.  Backup your Installation Diskette to the blank 3.5 inch
  50.          high density diskette you brought with you.  Enter the
  51.          following command at the pronpt: DISKCOPY A: A:<enter>
  52.          and follow the prompts.
  53.  
  54. Step 6.  With your backup diskette in the drive, enter the fol-
  55.          lowing: PATCH SYSINSTX.COM<enter>
  56.  
  57. Step 7.  When asked for the offset address, enter: 96AF<enter>
  58.  
  59. Step 8.  On the line that is shown, enter 45 to replace 44 as
  60.          the first byte in the line and then press <enter>.
  61.  
  62. Step 9.  When asked if you wish to apply patches, answer: Y
  63.          <enter>.
  64.  
  65. Step 10. At the OS/2 Command prompt again, enter: SYSINSTX A:
  66.  
  67. Step 11. Install OS/2 on your ZEOS using the patched backup
  68.          Installation Diskette.
  69.  
  70. Step 12. The patch MUST be applied using OS/2. If it is not
  71.          available, a diskette with the patch applied can be
  72.          sent to you from IBM by calling the OS/2 support phone number.

  76. MEMORY PROBLEMS
  77.  
  78. Symptom: Trap 2, Trap 6 or other Trap with reported location  60000x:9084.
  79.  
  80. These problems are caused by:
  81.  
  82.  A) Mismatched memory simms (from different manufactures) -
  83.     this is especially common if you recently added memory to
  84.     your system, or if it was assembled from parts (not a
  85.     recognized brand of clone).
  86.  
  87.  B) Mismatched memory simms (different classes) 1x9 simms
  88.     cannot be mixed with 1x3 simms.  Also, the 1x9 simms seem
  89.     to be more reliable than the 1x3 simms.

  91.  C) Slow memory on 486 machines (you may need 60 or 70ns
  92.     memories).

  95. Solution: You should try replacing memory modules first. You may also want
  96. to try changing the number of wait states if your system supports that. Other
  97. options are turning off/on the turbo switch on some machines or disabling the
  98. memory cache.
