- Hello Don!
-
- Sunday May 17 1992, Don Pryor writes to David Reed:

-
- No problem. First of all, I upgraded my Oak 256K VGA card (that one's not
- compatible with OS/2). Then I added another 4MB of RAM (for a total of 8MB).
- Once that was done, I installed OS/2 and formatted my entire hard drive for
- HPFS. Then, I retrieved my trusty backups of D'Bridge, QuickBBS, etc. and
- installed them on the hard drive.
-
- If you're running D'Bridge beta versions (with the built-in communications
- functions) don't even try to get everything working together. I spent MANY
- hours trying to make it work reliably, and it just don't. Dropping back to
- D'Bridge v1.30 was no problem.
-
- In the DOS settings (under OS/2) I installed the X00 device driver, with the
- same settings included with the OS/2 compatible version (1.49a), except that
- I did not rename it to x00.exe. I left it as x00.sys and installed it as a
- DOS device driver for the DOS session that controls my mailer/bbs. I did NOT
- include the mode com1, etc. that is described in the x00 readme file.
-
- Other than the above, I installed the "default" OS/2 setup. I did not
- disable com.sys or vcom.sys from config.sys (and I recommend that you don't),
- and I did not install one of those "fixes" floating around, that don't fix a
- darn thing.
-
- My system is running very reliably, better than it did under DOS, as a matter
- of fact. I am very happy with it. To sum up my feelings, I will NEVER buy
- another DOS or Windows application!
-
- QuickBBS does just fine. I run all my games as Type-7, and XRS is set up as
- a Type-15. Everything works great. Swaps in... swaps out... everything's
- fine!
-
- Anyone who may doubt how smooth things run... call my BBS at (206) 848-2831
- and see for yourself. ;-)
-
- Later,
-
- Dave.
