- Key: What the key does:
-
- BkSp or <- Pressing this key will back up one character in both the last
- AND next command lines.
- Del or Delete This key is usually on the right side of the keyboard.
- Pressing it will skip over (delete) one character in the last
- command line, as a part of building the next command line.
- However, no characters from that command line will actually be
- copied to the next command line until F1, F2, or F3 is pressed.
- Esc or Escape Pressing the Esc or Escape key at any time will throw away the
- partial next command line that had been built up to this point.
- It is a quick way to start over with a new (empty) command
- line. The last command line is not affected by this key, and
- is still available to copy from, using the F1, F2x and F3
- function keys.
- F1 or -> Pressing this key will copy one character from the last
- command line to the next command line.
- F2x This function key must be used along with some other key on
- the keyboard to be effective. If "x" is a character in the
- last command line, then pressing F2 followed by "x" will copy
- characters in the last command line up to (but not including)
- the "x" character into the next command line.
- F3 Pressing this key will copy the rest of the last command line
- to the next command line. If no other function keys have been
- pressed, the entire last command line will be copied. If F2 or
- F4 have been used to copy or skip part of the last command
- line, the rest of the last command line (after the point
- copied or skipped to) will be copied.
- F4x This function key must be used along with some other key on
- the keyboard to be effective. If "x" is a character in the
- last command line, then pressing F4 followed by "x" will skip
- over any characters in the last command line before the "x"
- character. However, nothing from the last command line will
- actually be copied to the next command line until F1, F2, or
- F3 is pressed. "x" is the first character that will be copied.
- F5 Makes the "next" command line that has been built up using
- the other function keys and keyboard entries become the "last"
- command line, WITHOUT executing that command line.
- F6 Enters a Ctrl-Z in the next command line.
- Ins or Insert This key is usually on the right side of the keyboard.
- Pressing it will allow the insertion of character(s) from the
- keyboard into the next command line, along with characters
- copied from the last command line. Pressing it again, or
- pressing any of the function keys, will stop the insertion of
- characters.
