- COMMAND EDITING
- When the operating system on your computer is a version of DOS prior to 4.0,
- or DOS 4.0 without DOSSHELL installed, F1 through F6 and a few other keys
- execute standard editing functions to help build the next DOS command line
- from the last one entered from the keyboard, without re-entering everything.
- The command editing keys are explained in more detail in the SUMMARY topic.

- If you don't like the standard editing functions, you can reassign them.

- keys. On some versions of DOS, certain Ctrl keys are also used for command

- F1 or -> copy 1 character BkSp or <- backup one character
- Del or Delete skip 1 character Ins or Insert insert character(s)
- Esc or Escape erase and start over F3 copy rest of line
- F2x copy up to character x F4x skip up to character x
- F5 copy next command to
- last, don't execute it
- F6 enter Ctrl-Z
