- DISK
-
- something that is round, turns when you use it, and hates magnets. About
- all you really need to know is that there are two types of disks: hard
- disks, which hold a lot and are inside your computer, and diskettes,
- which hold less and can be inserted into and removed from the disk drives
- (usually called A: and B:) on the front of the computer.
-
- Hard disks are usually measured by how much data they hold, typically 20 Mb
- or more (Mb = megabyte = 1 million bytes = 1 million characters). A hard
- disk is inseparable from its disk drive. C: is a typical letter for a hard
- disk and its drive.
-
- Diskettes are usually measured by physical size (5 ¼" or 3 ½") and by how
- much data they hold. Most diskettes hold hundreds of kilobytes (Kb =
- kilobyte = 1 thousand bytes = 1 thousand characters). See the DISKETTE
- definition for information about data capacity of diskettes.
