  5.                      REGISTRATION OF DOMAIN NAMES
  6.                       FOR BITNET, CSNET AND UUCP
  7.  
  8. UUCP, BITNET, or CSNET members who wish to join existing domains or
  9. establish new domains should do this through the appropriate
  10. administrative channels for those organizations.  The contacts
  11. for UUCP, BITNET and CSNET are listed below.

  26.                           GENERAL PROCEDURE
  27.  
  28. -  The administrator of each of these organization will process domain
  29.    applications from his/her members and forward them to the NIC
  30.    (HOSTMASTER@NIC.DDN.MIL) in groups.  The NIC will provide a
  31.    special form for this process online in
  32.    NETINFO:ALTERNATE-DOMAIN-TEMPLATE.TXT.  This template can be FTPed
  33.    by the administrator, or Hostmaster can send it via electronic
  34.    mail.  The application form in the online file
  35.    NETINFO:BITNET-DOMAIN-TEMPLATE.TXT is available for BITNET users.

  37. -  The NIC will check for domain name conflicts and notify the
  38.    administrators in case of conflicts.
  39.  
  40. -  If the names are valid, the NIC will generate name server records
  41.    for each of the new domains.
  42.  
  43. -  The administrators of each organization agree to provide a contact for
  44.    the domains in their networks. 
  45.  
  46. -  Hostmaster will notify administrators of acceptance or rejection
  47.    of applications.

  50.                   MAINTENANCE OF DOMAIN INFORMATION
  51.  
  52. Periodically, each organization should review the information on file
  53. at the NIC.  The most simple way to do this is by using the NIC WHOIS
  54. server and typing "whois domain <domain name> <Return>" at the prompt.
  55. If any changes are required, the administrator should contact the NIC
  56. Hostmaster.
