  6. This procedure is for installing OS/2 Warp on the IBM Thinkpad 560 series
  7. machines. It will work for OS/2 Warp for Windows (red label), OS/2 Warp with
  8. WINOS2 (blue label), OS/2 Warp Connect (blue label), and OS/2 Warp Connect for
  9. Windows (red label).

  11. The files listed in this procedure are available from the IBM PC Company BBS at
  12. phone: (919) 517-0001, anonymous ftp: ftp.pcco.ibm.com, and World Wide Web
  13. site:  http://www.pcco.ibm.com.

  15. Note:  The actual file descriptions listed here may vary from the descriptions
  16.        as posted on the BBS, the ftp site, and the WEB.  The file name, size,
  17.        and date should be exact.

  20. The Thinkpad should be placed on AC power prior to beginning the installation.
  21. Failure to do so can cause various inconsistencies in the installation which
  22. will prevent the system from functioning normally.  Make sure that the external
  23. floppy drive is secure in its port.

  28. Obtain the following files from IBM, run each from a temporary directory and
  29. follow the instructions to create the diskettes as listed.

  47. Note:  The Utility Disk for DOS is only needed if Thinkpad Personalization is
  48. desired during Thinkpad Features installation.

  51. *** Installation ***

  53. Consult the README file on the Thinkpad System Update diskette and follow the
  54. instructions for use.

  57. Thinkpad being used and follow the  instructions for use.

  59. Boot the Thinkpad from the Installation diskettes and proceed through the first
  60. part of the installation.  At the end of this stage of installation, at the
  61. screen which says "...Remove the Diskette and Press Enter to Restart the
  62. System..."; press the F3 key to exit to a command prompt.  At this point, use
  63. the TEDIT editor to edit the CONFIG.SYS on the installable drive and remove
  64. the line:

  66.            BASEDEV=SONY31A.ADD

  68. After the Thinkpad re-boots to the System Configuration Screen, select VGA for
  69. the video display (the installation will auto-detect a Trident 8900, this will
  70. not work). Choose Thinkpad 755CE/CsE for PCMCIA support.  Select Multimedia
  71. Device Support and change to Port Address for the ESS 688 device to 240.
  72. Select OK from the System Configuration Screen and proceed with the
  73. installation of desired software components.

  75. Note:  The ESS 688 driver may give an error on re-boot if the device was not
  76.        previously set to Port Address 240.  Ignore the error and proceed with
  77.        the installation.  This can be corrected at the end of the installation
  78.        using the Thinkpad Features to set the device to 240.

  81. ***  Installing Thinkpad Features ***

  83. Install the Thinkpad Features for OS/2 using the INSTALL2 program from the
  84. Thinkpad Utilities for OS/2 diskette.  The INSTALL2 program can be run from an
  85. OS/2 window.  Remove the check on the Install Personalization Editor and select
  86. Install to complete the installation.

  88. Note:  Thinkpad Personalization can be installed and run, just make sure to
  89.        have the Thinkpad Utilities for DOS Diskette available during the
  90.        install.

  92. Installation of the PC Card Director v4.02 is not necessary unless the features
  93. of this version are desired.  Install the PC Card director by running the
  94. PCMINST2 command from the PC Card Director for OS/2 and Win95 v4.02 diskette.

  99. Insert the Video Features for OS/2 Warp diskette and type INSTALL x from the
  100. A: prompt, where x is the drive in which OS/2 is installed; and follow the
  101. instructions.
