Settings for the "Constant Quality" rate mode.
When one is more concerned about picture quality than file size, one should use this mode. Using the CQ mode, one can set all of the aspects of quality to use in the encoding. This mode will guarantee a high quality movie; however, movies with many scene with rapid motion can become rather large.
-[MPEG Settings], [Video] Tab
- Quality
- Use the slide bar to determine the degradation of the P and B pictures, which determines the quality. This will determine the quality of the video produced by the encoder.
If the bitrate needed for desired quality is set below the maximum bitrate, the maximum bitrate may never be reached.
Maximum Bitrate
- Set the maximum bitrate to use. The actually maximum quality of the film is determined by this setting.
Minimum Bitrate
- Set the minimum bitrate.
Enable Bitrate
- If this is enabled, padding (extra data) is added to scenes which would otherwise be below the minimum bitrate. VCDs and DVDs require a minimum bitrate, which is set from the media. It is suggested that this be enabled.
P picture spoilage
- Set the degradation of the P picture in relation to the I picture during encoding. Valid values are from -100 to 100. A negative value decreases degradation and a positive value increases degradation.
- B picture spoilage
- Set the degradation of the B picture in relation to the I picture during encoding. Valid values are from -100 to 100. A negative value decreases degradation and a positive value increases degradation.
