Settings for the "2-pass Variable Bitrate (VBR)" mode selection option.
Every scene in a movie has a different optimal bitrate. In this mode, a scene is analyzed to determine the best bitrate before it is encoded. One can set the maximum, average, and minimum bitrates to use.
-[MPEG Settings], [Video Tab]
- Average Bitrate
- The average quality desired for the movie.
TMPGEnc will attempt to encode the movie close to the average bitrate, while still adjusting for scene motion. The higher the bitrate, the better the quality of movie and larger the file size.
Maximum Bitrate
- The maximum bitrate setting restricts the encoder to an upper bitrate limit during encoding. The higher the value, the better the quality of scenes with rapid motion will become at the expense of file size.
Minimum Bitrate
- This minimum bitrate setting guarantees a minimum bitrate for scenes with little motion if "Enable Padding" is enabled. If this value is set too low, even scenes with little motion will be of a poor quality.
Max Pass
- Select which algorithm to use in the analysis pass for motion. Depending on if one is using the evaluation version or "plus" version of TMPGEnc, the available options can differ. The "2 pass (old type)" is available for all version and is a lower quality than the other algorithms.
Enable Padding
- If this is enabled, padding (extra data) is added to scenes which would otherwise be below the minimum bitrate. VCDs and DVDs require a minimum bitrate, which is set from the media. It is suggested that this be enabled.
P picture spoilage
- Set the degradation of the P picture in relation to the I picture during encoding. Valid values are from -100 to 100. A negative value decreases degradation and a positive value increases degradation.
This feature is only available with the newer algorithms.
- B picture spoilage
- Set the degradation of the B picture in relation to the I picture during encoding. Valid values are from -100 to 100. A negative value decreases degradation and a positive value increases degradation.
This feature is only available with the newer algorithms.
