How do I ..... ?
How Do I Add a Program, Document, Folder or Shortcut to the System tray ?
Right-click on an EnTray icon (an EnTray icon is any icon added by EnTray to the task bar - including the icon of the EnTray program itself and the icons of the objects that you have added to EnTray). Select Add-Remove programs. The EnTray window now comes up on screen. Drag-n-drop any program, document, folder or shortcut to this window. Close the EnTray window when you are done.
Once a program, document, folder or shortcut is added to EnTray, it can be run (or opened) at any time by simply clicking on its icon in the tray. EnTray also remembers its previous settings, so if you close EnTray and start it again, all objects previously added to EnTray will be available.
How do I add system objects to the tray ?
You cannot directly drag-n-drop system objects to the EnTray window. First, create a shortcut to the system object (to create a shortcut, right-click on the object and select "Create shortcut") and then drag-n-drop the shortcut to the EnTray window. You can create shortcuts either in a folder or on your desktop.
How do I delete objects added earlier to EnTray ?
Right-click on an EnTray icon (an EnTray icon is any icon added by EnTray to the task bar - including the icon of the EnTray program itself and the icons of the objects that you have added to EnTray). Select Add-Remove programs to bring up the EnTray window on the screen. Click once on the object(s) that you want to delete - this will highlight the selected items in the window. Now press either the Delete key your keyboard or click on the Delete button in the EnTray toolbar. This will delete the selected items from the tray and from this window.
You can select multiple objects for deletion and can delete them all in one go. Note that deleting an object from EnTray does not delete any file from your machine - it only removes the icon for that file from the tray. If you made a mistake while selecting objects for deletion, you can de-select these objects by clicking on the object again. Thus, clicking once on an object selects it, clicking twice deselects it.
Note that the Delete button in the toolbar is disabled until you select at least icon from the window. Also, note that EnTray must always have at least one icon - this icon can be the EnTray program icon or the icon of one of the objects that you have added to EnTray. Thus, if you have chosen to hide the EnTray program icon itself, you cannot delete all objects in EnTray - one object will remain undeleted if you attempt to delete all EnTray objects. In summary, you cannot have a situation where EnTray is running but no icons are visible in the tray (because in this scenario you will not be able to access any EnTray features, since there is nothing to click on - no windows, no icons)
How do I hide the EnTray icon itself ?
The EnTray program icon can be hidden by right-clicking on any EnTray icon (an EnTray icon is any icon added by EnTray to the task bar - including the icon of the EnTray program itself and the icons of the objects that you have added to EnTray) and selecting "Hide EnTray icon". If the EnTray icon is already hidden, then you will not see the hide menu item; instead you will see the menu item "Show EnTray icon" which will bring back the EnTray program icon that you have previously hidden. If you hide the EnTray program icon, then you cannot maximize or minimize all windows from EnTray.
How do I make the EnTray program icon visible ?
Right-click on any object in the tray added by EnTray. Choose "Show EnTray icon" from the menu. If the EnTray program icon is already visible, the menu item will show "Hide EnTray icon" instead of "Show EnTray icon" - that is this menu item toggles between showing and hiding the EnTray program icon.
How do I maximize / minimize all applications from EnTray ?
You can maximize / minimize all applications by simply clicking on the EnTray program icon itself. Note that you cannot do this if you have chosen to hide the EnTray program icon itself. The first time you click on the EnTray program icon, all applications are minimized; the next click restores all the minimized applications.
You can also maximize / minimize by right-clicking on the EnTray program icon and selecting "Maximize <-> Minimize" from the menu.
How do I access the Help files from EnTray ?
The help files (which includes this document) can be accessed directly by opening the *.htm files included with EnTray or from within EnTray. To open the files from within EnTray, right-click on any EnTray icon (an EnTray icon is any icon added by EnTray to the task bar - including the icon of the EnTray program itself and the icons of the objects that you have added to EnTray) and choose "Help" from the menu.
How do I prevent the About box coming up whenever I start up EnTray ?
If you are using an unregistered version, you cannot disable this. However, the registered version does not display the About box (except on explicit request, through right-click and selecting "About EnTray") on startup.
How do I get EnTray to auto-start whenever I start my PC ?
To have EnTray auto-start, you need to drag-n-drop EnTray.EXE to the Startup folder. To do this, right-click on the Start button on your taskbar and select Explore. Double-click on Programs and then double-click on Startup. Drag-n-drop the EnTray.EXE file to this folder (this will create a shortcut to EnTray.EXE in the startup folder and Entray will automatically start the next time you start your machine.
How do I save all my EnTray settings ?
This is automatically done - whenever you exit EnTray and restart everything is remembered. This includes icons you added to EnTray, the tooltips for the icons (whether or not you renamed them) and your choice on whether the EnTray icon itself is to be hidden or not.
How do I change the tooltip for an object that I added to EnTray ?
Right-click on any EnTray icon (an EnTray icon is any icon added by EnTray to the task bar - including the icon of the EnTray program itself and the icons of the objects that you have added to EnTray) and select "Add / Remove Programs". Select the object you want to rename and click on the Rename button in the toolbar. (To select an object, click on either its name or icon in the EnTray window). This brings up a dialog box where you can type in the new name of the object. The rename operation changes only the name of the object in EnTray - none of the files on your system are renamed or modified in any way. Once renamed, EnTray will remember your preferred name and show that name in the tooltip for the object icon in the tray.
You can rename only one object at a time - therefore the rename button is disabled if no object is selected in the EnTray window or if more than one object is selected. If you made a mistake while selecting an object, you can de-select the object by clicking on it again.
How many icons can I add to EnTray ?
There is no limit imposed by EnTray itself on the number of icons you can add in the tray.
How do I order the icons added through EnTray ?
There is no way of changing the order of icons added to EnTray. The icons are however displayed in the same order that you added them in. If you need to reorder, you must remove the icons (through Add / Remove programs) and add them again in the order that you want.
Why is it that some of the objects that I added to EnTray display a different icon now and also, no longer work (nothing happens when I click on them) ?
If you deleted a program, file, folder or shortcut previously added to EnTray, EnTray will display a default icon for such deleted objects. Since the objects themselves do not exist, EnTray cannot run them anymore. Also, EnTray relies on file associations setup in Windows - if you remove a file association, some icons may no longer work. For example, if you added a .doc file to EnTray, and you deleted the association between a .doc file and Microsoft Word, EnTray can no longer open the file.
Why is it that I cannot add certain files to EnTray ?
There are two categories of object which cannot be added to EnTray. System objects cannot be dragged and dropped to the EnTray window - you need to create shortcuts to these objects and add those shortcuts to EnTray. The other category of objects which cannot be added to EnTray comprises those files which do not have any application associated with them. (If a file cannot be opened by double-clicking it, and instead displays a standard dialog box requesting you to specify which application to open with, then such a file does not have an application associated with it). Such files cannot be handled by EnTray, since EnTray does not know how to open the file. To correct the problem, first specify which application to open the file with (in the dialog box that comes up when you double-click the file) and also check the box at the bottom of the dialog box which says "Always use this application to open this filetype". Once you do this, you should be able to drag-n-drop the file to the EnTray window.
Can I add Internet shortcuts to EnTray ?
Yes you can, through the same drag-n-drop mechanism to the EnTray window.
Internet shortcuts are shortcuts to your frequently used web pages that you create from your web browser, or sent by somebody else via mail and saved by you to a folder. Internet shortcuts usually have the extension ".URL".
How do I get EnTray to open up my applications in a maximized window ?
EnTray starts applications in a window using the default size of the window for that application. For example, when you start Microsoft Word through the Start / Programs menu, Word comes up with a window whose size is the current default Window size. EnTray uses this default size for a window when you click on an EnTray icon in the tray. To always have your programs or documents open up maximized, make sure the default for your program is to open up maximized. Again, taking the Word example, you do this by starting Word from Start / Programs, maximimizing the Word window and then closing Word. This changes the default to maximizied and EnTray will open Word or Word documents added to the tray, in a maximized state from now on.
Can I access items on my desktop from EnTray ?
Not directly; the only way to do this is to drag-n-drop all items on your desktop (or shortcuts to them) to the EnTray window. Remember, you cannot drag-n-drop system objects like "My Computer" and "Network Neighbourhood" - you need to create shortcuts to these objects first and drag-n-drop these shortcuts.
