Layout files contain predefined windowing structures. Zoning templates are particularly useful when documents with a similar page layout are OCRed: to recognize a 50 page report where the header and footer should be excluded for obvious reasons, a single template can be applied to zone all 50 pages.
Using layouts is an alternative to page analysis and manual windowing.
Tip: the page analysis tool Ignore Exterior Zone is often a highly effective alternative to using layouts. It limits the page decomposition to the ôcroppedö portion of the image; you can exclude the same outer zone from page analysis on every page of the document.
Layouts as defined on a scanned document are saved with the command Save Layout.
Layouts are loaded with the command Load Layout. Loading a layout into memory disables the page analysis. The layout remains activated until you re-enable page analysis.
When youÆre loading a layout into memory, you can enable the option Apply Layout to All Pages to apply it promptly to all pages of the current document.
